They spread pesticide and fertilizer all over my lawn, which is in accordance with the contract. they did not spend a few extra minutes ensuring that it wasn't all over my bluestone and pavement. I have small children and pets whom can if not directly consume it, track it into the house! This is a very dangerous thing to have sitting around. plus we've had more fungi and this year than any other year despite having the service. I highly recommend avoiding using TruGreen. Don't fall for the sales pitch--Youre 1 of 6M customers in the area. They don't care. read more

We started with TruGreen because we had seen them at our neighbors house with a nice lawn. I have 5 1/2 acres, and have been with TruGreen for three years. The last two and a half years' service has declined significantly, as well as the Customer Service Agents' attitudes. The TruCore Lawn Plan service I prepay for every year, so it's cheaper. Well, that old saying " You Get What You Pay For" is ringing true when you hire TruGreen! 1st Year lawn is looking good; however, trying to get the scheduling for them to come out on the days I work from home so I can unlock the gate and they can treat the fenced-in pool area was like pulling teeth!! I gave them the 3 same days I worked from home every week so they could plan my schedule. However, every month in my TruGreen app, they would schedule me for a day I was not working from home, and I would have to call them and fight with them just to get my schedule every month, and this went on for 3 years! 2nd & 3rd Year I Pre-Pay for the TruCore Lawn Plan. I noticed I had gotten brown patches and red thread, both diseases of the lawn, which we had not seen there before. So I requested that it be looked at and find out how to treat it. TruGreen came out and told me what I already knew about the problem, and told me it was hit or miss with these problems. Also, with the TruCore Lawn Treatment, my lawn will improve and green nicely. So we took his advice and waited for the lawn to improve like he said it would. Fast forward to the middle of year 3, and our lawn is looking like it's in critical condition! Crispy, burnt-up lawn all over! We have a septic system, and our D-Box could clearly be seen with burnt lawn all over. So we took matters into our own hands and called TruGreen to push treatment dates back so we could see what we could do ourselves. Seeing as my husband is a research scientist, he found the treatment we needed for the brown patches and red thread treatment. We did. Well, I didn't mow for 2 weeks, and we watered the lawn if it didn't rain. After the mowing, our lawn looked absolutely beautiful!! No brown patches, No Red Thread, and No weeds!! ALL WITHOUT TRUGREEN TREATMENT, MY LAWN HAS BEEN REVIVED!! Now that we realized that TruGreen is "NOT"TRUE at all with their chemical products they are applying to ours, and thousands of other unexpected customers! So I called TruGreen's cancellation department for a refund of the 2 remaining prepaid treatments at $452.00 each totaling $904.00. Well, as many of you already know, TruGreen needs a lesson in math!! Because they only refunded me for $627.92. Which we all should know is short $175.92. Also, I had Aeration and Seeding prepaid plan done in the beginning of the Spring to help my lawn, which was a huge waste of money! So I had a credit on this account for $191.00 that I told them to put it back to my credit card back in July of this year. Come to find out that they never did it. So I told the agent to please credit that back to me as well, and she told me everything was taken care of with my refunds, as well as closing my account with TruGreen, not wanting to be a customer anymore! Today, 9/16/2025, I checked my credit card account and found 2 refunds from TruGreen, not in the refund amount as it should be! 1st $627.92, and 2nd $172.00. So again I called the cancellation department and explained everything to the agent. She was rude, uneducated, and a liar!! I asked for her supervisor and she put me on hold for 10 minutes, only to come back and say that there is no one available!! Liar again! I called back and asked to speak to a supervisor right away and unfortunately received a rude one!! She went on to say that a General Manager will call me back in 24 hours because she said that she looked through the notes before taking the call which is impossible because the agent had her on the phone in seconds, another lie! She was abrupt to say that they will not refund me any more money, and that is why the GM has to speak with me!! The Technicians, I don't need to do a review because the reviews on them say it all!!! Oh, remember my neighbor that had TruGreen when we moved in, and our reasoning for hiring them to begin with? Well, they fired them for applying product on their lawn, and it burned. This same neighbors lawn now looks Green, and Thriving!!! My advice: just like thousands of other people's reviews say, "STAY AWAY FROM TRUGREEN COMPANY." I Purchased a one year lawn treatment, plan, and paid upfront. My first treatment was for insects and weeds. I will say after a week I sincerely noticed a lot last weeds. Last year, while digging in my garden, I noticed white grubs in the soil. I came to find out that these grubs are what turn into the Japanese Beetles; which I happen to have been inundated with last year, especially in my pool. While gardening this year, I did not see any white grubs in the soil..... I'm hoping that I will also see a lot less Japanese Beetles.... The technician did leave a sign on my lawn, showing that the treatment was executed along with a door hanger stating the condition of my lawn and what was applied. Trugreen also gave me a follow up phone Call to ask me if everything went well. I was not home during the initial application, but I was pleased to see that steps were taken to ensure I knew they came and applied the treatment. My lawn is in poor condition, with bare spots and weeds. Hopefully, Trugreen will be able to sort out my Lawn issues. Using this company for the first time just for weed management and it seems that they just keep over applying fertilizer my lawn that was once green is now browning. I'm going to have to try to contact them and tell them to stop fertilizing my lawn. What I don't understand specif is by looking at it they should know that they're over fertilizing it and a company that states true green.....It should be called True Brown instead.. we called them to specifically to spot treat some weeds which they say they do and they just came and fertilized again along with weed killer . However, no one ever got back to me so both their lawn service and customer service stinks. I also got notified that service was performed and no one showed up. The lawn professionals actually don't know anything about grass and only after hiring TruGreen this past spring my entire lawn turned to crabgrass by July! By late July crabgrass overtook my entire lawn. This was the absolute worst my lawn ever looked. So today the manager was supposed to come and would you believe- it was just another tech who "treated" my lawn again- no manager! After using TruGreen for several years, I'm finally getting rid of them. Their technicians seem to be on the property for all of five minutes. I'm not sure they do anything beyond leaving those little signs on your lawn. Their customer service is awful. I called them multiple times to ask why our lawn, even with their service, looks so bad? I wanted to speak to someone knowledgeable about you know... lawns... but all I got was yet another sales person. I will never do business with TruGreen again. In 2020 I had to threaten to cancel my service because they kept calling to offer more services. Now in 2021 they auto-renewed my services without authorization! I intend to put in a new lawn this year so I do not want treatments. I am on hold every day and can never reach a representative. Their website, where Ione can add services, says I can not cancel online and must call. After being on hold for 49 minutes today, I got disconnected. This has been a miserable place to do business with. Terrible company. It didn't change anything on my lawn, after two years. When I told them I wanted to cancel the service, they were rude and said it was my fault if I didn't tell them that my lawn was not taken care of well. We agreed to close the account and to send me an invoice for the remaining balance to pay, and instead of an invoice, they sent a collection agency, impacted my credit score for no reason. They can check their phone recordings to see that I was totally fine paying and did not argue this at all, despite the poor service they provided. Their definition of service is "take people's money, throw some product here and there, and leave without caring if it works or not." Just stay away. Let's start with the fact that it takes a lot to get me to write a review.... I've experienced it ALL: They said they did a treatment but my cameras CLEARLY showed they didn't. They did half the property. They did not put flags down after treatment (ok, not a big deal but when you have pets and a small child..it kind of is). Now that I see others with the same exact issues I have had this year I absolutely can not let it go. The weeds in my lawn have never gone away, my lawn is thin in areas, grass is dead/burnt and patchy, I know TruGreen will not correct the issues I have. I'm not sure why there is so much hate for this company, but I've been pretty pleased. I signed up last summer when I realized that I could not keep up with my yard on my own. My grass had been neglected for about 2 years and had been over run with crab grass and weeds and bare spots. They have since done three fertilizer treatments along with lime treatment. I also sprung for the aeration and overseed. The cost seemed high at first, but I did quite a bit of comparison shopping, and Trugreen was able to beat everyone. They will negotiate, so don't just accept the first offer. Lets just say the price I got them down to per treatment is only about $15 more than if I went and bought the stuff my self. Now I don't need to spend hours of labor, and they use professional grade product and proper application equipment. Worth it if you ask me. The results were quite astounding. I did not expect my yard to bounce back so quickly, but I am amazed at how nice my lawn looks now. My lawn was the first one in the neighborhood to become lush and green enough to cut this spring. I am hoping the quality stays consistent, especially in the hot months. I realize that this is a partnership and my lawn will only look as good if i keep it watered, but now that I've made the investment in lawn care, you can bet I'll be watering more frequently. My only complaints are the difficulty it was to talk to a local rep. Usually when you call, you talk to a call center far away, who may or may not be able to give you specifics about the person(s) doing the actual work. They also tried to reset my pricing to full retail this year, but a simple phone call resolved that. I haven't had to cancel the service, so I don't know how that process is. I am sure they will call frequently and do the hard sell to get you back, but so far this hasn't been an issue since I am actually pleased with their service. read more

I am canceling my service today Sept 4 2020 because my lawn looks horrible. What's even worse is that the corporate office did nothing when I called to complain. Then I called the franchise on rt 17 in Upper Saddle River,NJ. It took 45 minutes of listening to recordings before I hung up and spent another hour before I finally got someone. They said a manager would call me within 48 hours. No calls. I called this am and got someone. I requested a call before 500 today. Nothing. I just called again to cancel my service. I felt like I was talking to the wall. So their lawn care sucks and their franchise management just doesn't care. DONT USE THESE HORRIBLE FOLKS Here's more information. Now today is Sept 10. After two more calls to the local Saddle River office last week plus an email I sent , and another call to the corporate office, they still sent the same guy today to my home to do the lawn service. We used this company in the Chicago area. They drove up in the truck one day, walked to the door and rang doorbell. We continued to watch instead of answering the door. The rep went back to their truck, prepared the invoice, put it on our door then drove off. No treatment. When we called, the company said "well the rep said they did the work! We dropped them. We then moved to Florida and they offered us a good deal. Our lawn was in horrible shape so we thought let's give them another chance. They said to get our lawn to look good we needed to have grass plugs put in the yard. We said ok. Around $120 for 36 plugs. About six weeks later the yard was starting to look good so they recommended we put weed killer on the yard. When they did, it killed all of the plugs. We called and the rep said they would send someone out the next day. We were home all day plus we have two dogs that let us know if anyone is at the door. No one from TruGreen ever showed up. When I called the next day I was told they were at our house, range the doorbell and no one answered so they left. I explained this was not true as the dogs would have let us know. Their reply was that they would send the supervisor next. They never showed up. I called again and got the same story that he was at the house but we didn't answer the door. After they just quit offering to come out. We immediately canceled our service. I would highly recommend finding another company. read more

UPDATE: I stopped service and then decided to give them another try this year after discussing my concerns with the area manager. TruGreen Lawn Care was the biggest mistake we've ever made. Due to the large size of our lawn, we thought hiring a service to fertilize and spray for weeds would be a good idea...it was not. We signed a contract for service for one year. We constantly had to call and remind them to come...which sometimes they did and sometimes they didn't. Our lawn got overrun with weeds, crabgrass, clover, etc. Calling customer service was also an unpleasant experience. They were rude and offensive and made me feel bad about calling. Whatever they sprayed on our lawn was ineffective as the weeds flourished. The only good part of our whole experience was one of the supervisors, Paul who at least apologized for the ineptness of the service. I strongly advise you against hiring this company. read more

They will also tell you they're coming with text messages and emails saying your technician is on the way and then out of the blue you get a message saying your lawn service has been canceled. Not worth the time or money. I recently signed up for the TruGreen service as I had given up on trying to get my lawn in good shape on my own. The rep who I initially spoke to was very helpful and professional. At the time, I thought I was getting a fair deal considering the services I signed up for. In all, I had three service visits: tree & shrub service, weed control, and aeration/overseeding. All three services were done poorly. For the tree/shrub service, they missed half the shrubs I have on my property. For the weed service, they only sprayed 50% of the weed patches I had on my lawn. Finally, the aeration/seeding was done so poorly, I had to re-aerate and seed the lawn myself. In all the cases above, the techs seemed more interested in getting the job done as quickly as possible rather than getting it done right. I called TruGreen's customer service number to cancel my service and the rep didn't even make an effort to retain and/or rectify the issue. The rep just told me "I'll have the service manager call you within 48hrs" - it's been four days. Like the techs, she was more than happy just doing the bare minimum and going about her day. I hardly ever write reviews but wanted to share my experience with people with the hope I can help you avoid the same issues. You're better off finding a qualified landscaper that has a maintenance program than dealing with this company. In all, the $400 I spent on service is down the drain.
