No one in thier right mind can walk into this place and not feel the smile burst onto their face. There is something about sweet shops that just make everything with the world ok. So, if you need a bit of joy in your life visit scrumtiously (not enough shops use this as a name!) sweet and get that inner child buzzing with wonder and excitment about which sugary susbtance will soon be hitting your taste buds and filling you with complete satisfaction!

I've reviewed some good candy emporiums before, but the range here is astounding. As well as having hundreds of jars of traditional sweets, they have imported sweets and cereals from the States like Tootsie Rolls and Lucky Charms, and more modern sour/tangy sweets like Millions and Nerds. If you don't get on well with sugar, Mary's even sell around ten jars of sugar-free sweets. Top marks go to Mary's for being the only place I've seen to stock Barratt's licorice selection boxes, with licorice watches, sparklers and catherine wheels. They also have balls of mystical goodness with a Harry Potter/Willy Wonka vibe: Invisible gobstoppers. ('You don't see them anywhere else' quips the shop owner.) Talking of the shop owner, he's a joy to talk to and is very much from the same mould as Roald Dahl's aforementioned hero. A previous venture was a Beatles-themes sub-sandwich shop in Solihull called The Yellow Submachine, all kitted out in authentic decking with pieces of machinery adorning the walls! Though sadly the success of that shop was put paid to by Subway, you can count on Mary's to bring you sweet memories for years to come.

This place is so sleek and squeaky clean, it builds its own 'bubble gum pop' edge, and has a real…read morecandy American vibe about it. Most of the shop is pink inside and out, and the entire one side of the store is covered in sweets jars. Literally every type of candy that you can imagine is sold here, cola cubes, fizzy sticks, gummy bears, flying saucers, dolly mixtures...The lot. But what's greatest of all, is the price. For 100g, you only have to spend 75p!! At most other sweets shops, you're looking at doubling that cost for the same amount. I was completely shocked when I saw the price tag and had to check twice! As well as the traditional sweets jars, the shop also sells gift wrapped selections of sweets that are tied together with a ribbon and bow. These cost between £6 and £9 depending on the size of the parcel and the amount of sweets included. The thoughtful aesthetics and creative design of the gift wraps are absolutely perfect to give people as a unique present. Additional to gift wraps, they sell mugs full of sweets, which also look great as birthday gifts. The staff certainly know how to keep their store looking brand spanking new too, considering it has been open since December 2011. And their ditzy humour and light hearted approach really makes the whole sweet shopping experience an enjoyable and memorable one!

What makes them stand out from other local sweet shops is that you can buy larger amounts in gift wrapped parcels or served in mugs or hampers. If you've got a wedding or a birthday party coming up you can even hire a sweet cart from here for the occasion the price varies depending on how many sweets you want and if you're also hiring glassware to serve them in. Ithink the minimum price was around £100.

I know there are a lot of stalls around Birmingham that sell sweets like this but nothing compares to Sweets from Heaven because they have a larger range than most. I think the prices are reasonable and some of the sweets from previous eras, like pear drops, are cheaper than other places as well. To me food is an art form and I love how creative and artistic some of the sweets look! The staff are very friendly. The shop is quiet small and when it gets busy it can feel like there's hardly any room; especially on a Saturday afternoon with the parents treating their children. I think the products make Sweets from Heaven worth the visit and would recommend them to anybody who enjoys sweets.

Tucked into a corner of one of the main apexes of Touchwood shopping centre in Solihull is Sweets…read morefrom Heaven, a sweet shop specialising in those harder to find sweets from foreign lands or bygone eras. There seems to have been a recent explosion in small confectionary stands, particularly in shopping centres, selling American soft drinks and sweets, but I'd encourage you to stick to the established businesses in Birmingham such as Sweets from Heaven and Cyber Candy. Sweets from Heaven have a much greater range of stock than these stalls, and because they're older and have a more permanent business model, meaning cheaper prices for you and me. Because of the location, Sweets from Heaven can feel a bit chaotic (it's got as many entrances as it does shelf space), and with any more than five or six people inside, it starts to feel very crowded, and makes for difficult browsing, but it's worth the angst.

A lovely little specialist shop of the kind that you only seem to really be able to find in smaller…read moretowns. This is filled with cheeses from all round the world, with lots of local specialities as well as more exotic types. The cheeses are often of the whiffy variety but are really something to be tried. They often have samples out and the sales assistants are very helpful and willing to advise you. Some of the varieties are on the expensive side but there are things for smaller budgets as well.
