Truffle Pig Chocolate is definitely a hidden gem. It is located inside Hagensborg Chocolates in Burnaby. They sell the chocolates in store or online. They source the cacao directly from Nicaragua farmers and pay them a premium above world market prices. Each single origin cacao is grown wildly on the farms without the use of fertilizers or pesticides. All their chocolates are 47% cacao or 70% cacao. The Holiday House is a great Christmas gift for kids and adults for the holiday. I love the green front door can be open and closed and you can see the piggy chocolates through the window. So cute! It contains about 30 pieces of four different flavors (milk chocolate, dark chocolate, milk peanut butter, milk hazelnut). I love the truffle chocolates are soft enough and are melted in my mouth. If you don't like very sweet chocolate, truffle chocolate with 47% or 70% cacao would be the best choices. All chocolates are delicious. Taste: 5/5 I also bought their best selling assorted marshmallow. Wow.. Love the softness and sweetness of these marshmallows. I had the coconut, gingerbread, raspberry and vanilla. This was my first time trying out Truffle Pig and it did not disappoint! I was offered to try a piece of either the milk or dark chocolate, and opted for the milk. It was smooth, creamy and not too sweet. I couldn't resist so I ended up buying a lot more chocolates for myself, and for gifts for the holiday season. This is the BEST chocolate place in Vancouver! Truffle Pig is fantastic. I stopped by today while running a few errands and was pleasantly surprised by the variety of chocolates available. To be clear, the shop is not an outlet, so don't expect deep discounts. However, the prices here are less than you'll find them online or at retailers carrying their goods. I had the opportunity to chat with the owner, Shelley. She was extremely pleasant and immediately offered me a sample of dark chocolate. I was shocked that it was just dark chocolate with no other additions. It had a naturally fruitiness and nuttiness that I wouldn't find in inferior chocolates. It's so nice to know there are small businesses like these that are offering high quality chocolates that are ethically sourced. It was tough to decide exactly what to buy, but the decision was made easier with a chocolate shoppe house that includes an assorted selection of chocolates. With both milk and dark chocolate options and flavours like peanut butter, peppermint, and hazelnut, I'm sure my family will love them. read more

Came here for a Yelp elite event, but ended up being a return customer! To be honest I'm not a huge chocolate fan as I'm a savoury kinda gal, but the chocolates here are delicious. It's a local company, and the cacao beans are fair trade from Nicaragua. You can really taste the quality of the chocolates and care put in. The peanut butter and hazelnut milk truffles are my favourite! Purchased assorted boxes for Christmas gifts, and will definitely be a repeat customer. The owners son was super helpful and knowledgeable. It was great to learn about his moms story, and help out a local business! The shop is very cute and quaint. They offer lots of high quality chocolate at a very reasonable price. Most importantly, they are ethically sourced and direct trade with farmers fairly. A little pricey depending on what you get but products are above average quality and service is top notch! They don't have a HUGE selection but a good variety of items and flavours. Did I mention the packing is adorable too?! I got a few items as a holiday gift and though prices aren't super cheap (I paid around $60 for my two items), but I think they will be well received. It is more unique considering it is a local brand! The gentleman working was super friendly and knowledgeable. He was giving me recommendations and was accommodating. Yum yum yum, I found these Truffle Pig little bites from Whole Foods, near the check-out line. I tried the standard Milk Chocolate and it was quite delicious - nice and creamy, and not overly sweet. They also have Milk Peanut Butter & Raspberry Jam, Dark Mint Chocolate Chip, Peppermint, Peanut Butter, Caramel, Dark Chocolate, and Hazelnut. It's time to place this local chocolatier on the map. This Vancouver company is located at Burnaby, BC. I saw their ad plastered on the side of a transit bus recently and thought it had cute illustrations of pigs promoting chocolate truffles. A few days later they were featured at a Living Social group coupon. The option I saw at that time was a $12.00 shipping fee within Canada. Seeing they were local, I emailed to inquire about the shipping rate and the possibility of a local pick up. The next business day I got a positive response. Although they've been in existence since 2004, this year it looks like they're finally ramping up their marketing. In fact a few days after my inquiry, they must have realised the $12.00 shipping for local orders may have been too high that their website now promotes a FLAT $5.00 rate for the Lower Mainland. For a local company, they have world-class packaging. Their customer service is fast and they listen to customer feedback. As for the chocolates themselves. The proprietor is obviously trained in the French method. I ordered a variety of their Truffle Pig Bar and Truffle Pig'lets (mini bite-sized versions of the bars). Looking at the chocolates the surface is very shiny. Biting into them and there definitely is a snap. The products are velvety smooth to the feel and melts in the mouth like high quality chocolates should. My pick: White & Dark Chocolate Raspberry, Dark Chocolate Orange, and Milk Chocolate Mocha bars. Of course you can opt for the no fail flavours of Dark, Milk, Caramel, Hazelnut, and Peanut Butter. This is absolutely not your typical mass-produced chocolate candy bars. And they shouldn't be. At $3.30 for a bar and $1.00 for a bite-size version, these are as pricey as they can be. So for that I give 4 stars. Apart from price and at that level, I was looking for more complex flavours to linger in my mouth after the chocolate has melted. I was yearning for something unique to pop out of my taste buds and tell me that this is Hagensborg chocolates. The flavours are subtle. Very classy indeed. At the moment I can taste fine French chocolates, but I can find that elsewhere upscale chocolatiers can be found. I wanted to taste something distinct. Perhaps a blend of herbs or a flower to tantalize the buds. But as I said, it looks like they're just getting started. I'd keep my eye out on this and see how big they may become. Don't forget, if you are in the Burnaby area and still want to skip the amended and already low $5.00 shipping charge, order over the phone and tell them you'll pick it up yourself. read more

I normally don't do the whole sugar and candy thing (I am a desserts person), however, being Easter and the attempt to have something different that isn't a bunny, I went for a pig instead. Discovered this place because of their groupon deal. Was planning just to get some truffle bites, and then I saw their bon bons. Had a sampling of their dark raspberry and passion fruit bon bons....oh my heavens, they were fabulous! I think the bon bons are only sold at their retail store, which is in an obscured location, BUT it's worth the drive to satisfy your fine chocolate craving. This place has terrible customer service. I ordered 8 items about 10 days ago - needed them for christmas gifts and hostess gifts. The order was not filled accurately. 2 items that I wanted were missing. There was an extra box of Pigs Snacks instead. There was no tracking number of the shipment. I left email for their customer service - got a reply that they cannot help me without some information. So I called them. THe woman on the phone went from official "it is unfortunate..." to sarcastic "Ma'am, I cannot be at your house opening your boxes for you" Finally decided to refund the item that was missing but wanted me to go home to confirm that was indeed the item they missed packing! I WILL NOT ORDER FROM THEM AGAIN after this delightful experience. read more
