Pity! What could have been an interesting concept turned out to be just an ordinary, common,…read moreoverpriced, and smoke-filled bar like so many other. Expecting a burlesque environment ? Look elsewhere. This is a pretentious dive bar, with an equally pretentious DJ pumping out house and techno in a tiny upstairs sitting area. One can only be thankful for the ear splitting garbage as it covers the " like-like-like " conversations of barely legal patrons. You could argue that the quality of the patrons is not the bars responsibility, in which case, why the silly protocol of having to ring the doorbell and be greeted with a "do you have a reservation?" by the (friendly, I must concede) doorman? There are about 5 house cocktails on the menu, but I presume the usual classics are available. I would give the house cocktails 4 stars. That was the best part of the experience, but sadly, the only good part. A wonderful concept idea poorly executed.

I had…read morebooked us a reservation over a month in advance after seeing great tripadvisor and Yelp reviews. We were coming all the way from California and this is the last night of our 19 day trip backpacking around the Netherlands, Czech Republic, and Germany. Tonight the 4 of us showed up for our reservation at Prinzipal Kreuzberg at 9:30pm as scheduled, and we're looking forward to a great cocktail. Unfortunately, we were greeted by a woman who said we were not on her list. I showed her our email confirming our reservation, and she said we had to reply to confirm the reservation. I let her know I did, and went and found my reply to Bahan (General Manager) confirming the reservation on September 8th. She asked us to wait a minute at the door while she checked with her manager. She came back a few minutes later saying sorry, they could not let us in. I asked her why and she said she didn't know but they couldn't accommodate us. She stayed polite and said sorry, have a good night but would not tell us what was going on and why we were not allowed in. I asked to speak to a manager, waited for a moment for her to grab him, and she came back saying he wouldn't speak with us. It was her job to tell us we weren't on the list, even though we had a confirmed reservation in black and white. I was appalled but knew I wasn't getting anywhere. I decided I would call the restaurant from my confirmed reservation and asked for the General Manager, Bahan. I was able to speak with him and he told me he didn't know what the problem was but if the lady at the door said we couldn't come in, then we couldn't come in. I continued to explain we had a confirmed reservation and would like to know why we weren't allowed in. He said to come back to the door, and so we did. Bahan came out and very disrespectfully told me that we weren't dressed nice enough for his "nice" club. Mind you the very nice girl at the front door answered the door in a corset, smoking a cigarette, with 2 full tattooed sleeves. While Bahan was in a less than flattering vest and hat. My friends and I were in jeans or khakis, sweaters/jackets, scarves and either boots or comfortable nikes (sorry, we're reasonable tourists walking around the city!). We looked fine in my eyes, especially since neither the website, nor the email said anything about a dress code. To top things off, as Bahan was letting us know we weren't fit to enter the club a group of about 6-8 nice looking women in their 40's to 50's walked out wearing very similar clothing to myself and my friends. Bahan could not dispute that fact and decided to go back inside. Again, wish I had better things to say about this place since we were so excited to end our trip to Germany at Prinzipal Kreuzberg -- sadly it's a disrespectful bunch who doesn't honor reservations. Don't dare wear nikes or you might be on the street like us!

But such drinks! The menu is inventive, with surprising combinations using ingredients like violet and rosemary - but unlike those at, say, Monkey Bar, the tastes are balanced and complex, and don't merely sound good on paper. A nice plus is the price: while they're not cheap, at around 14 euros per drink, they are quite fair for what you get, and you're certainly getting premium here (unlike the 20 euro monstrosities at Odessa).

I don't know if this is a typical night at Becketts Kopf, but it was mine, and I could hardly have been happier. After just spending a little time in NY savouring the cocktail culture, finding a speakeasy like this in Berlin was one surprising delight. The bartender is imported from London, and rare bitters are sourced in Scotland. He is happy to answer all your (stupid?) questions despite being busy spraying the cocktails with orange blossom.. meant to please your nose, to enhance the experience even further. The ugly red leather chairs, and the smoke are the only two things holding me back for giving this place a full five stars.

Well done Berlin…read more If there's anything I love more than a good cocktail, it's an almost secret bar. A massive steel door conceals the magic within. Ring the doorbell to be let in. Brightly illuminated in red lights with the haze of cigarette smoke in the distance and loud music thumpin in your ears, Reingold is THE spot for locals and tourists alike. I heard a mix of international languages being spoken here and that made me sip my cocktail in great pleasure. The cocktail list is alluringly extensive and everything looks so GOOD. You can't go wrong with a floral Aviation, a citrusy Dartmoor Smash, a boozy Old Fashioned or gin martini (2 olives please!) and even a Vera Cruz that's dessert like with tequila and coffee is very well balanced. I made sure to chat up Shaba, our phenomenal bartender and after a couple of rounds, we were best friends. We ended the night with tequila shots on the house. EPIC. Thanks Reingold for a night we'll never forget. Prost!

I enjoyed my martini and Old-Fashioned and everyone else seemed to enjoy their drinks. The menu is small and not overwhelming with different drinks or strange titles. This cocktail lounge has all the makings of a modern speakeasy with clean decor and very dim lighting until your eyes can adjust. The leather seats and wood floors are present. The bartenders were dressed alike in white shirt with dark pants and suspenders. The outdoor patio seating is probably nice on a warm (not humid) night. Their front door is in an inlet halfway down an alley street. Once you walk in, the bar and lounge area are to the right, the restrooms are a sharp left.
