Natalie was an awesome bartender! Drinks are reasonably priced and interesting. When we went they were running a seasonal menu based off of where their members have traveled and are inspired by. If you don't like what you see, you can always ask for something else. Natalie was running the entire bar by herself but still made time to talk to each of her guests and even give us recommendations on where we should go next. Ah, gimmicky faux speakeasies.. Berlin has them too evidently and so we decided to ring the bell at the green door. A woman opened the door and informed us that there are no seats open but we are free to stand and drink. Apparently they take reservations here. Anyways, since we were happy to stand we proceeded to examine their extensive cocktail book. I ordered a cocktail called the Avenue and my brother ordered one called 28 days later, a libation that was pretty potent he ended up sipping that drink while I had another. When I'm at mixology bars like these I always prefer to talk to the bartender and ask them to tailor a drink to my preferences. So I did just that. The first drink was on the sweeter side and I wanted something boozier. So he made a 'sweet' Manhattan of sorts and it was a very well made drink indeed. I was quite satisfied. There was smoking in this bar as well but we were standing right by the ventilation which made breathing a lot easier. The atmosphere was definitely fancier. It's a kind of place you'd take a date to so as to impress them. Over all, with the great cocktails, the atmosphere, and the good service it's worth the gimmick. read more

Another decent Bar in Berlin. Im a huge fan of the decor. The place is green and snug.. Come early and have your pick of where to sit..otherwise you might show up to a full house...The service was excellent for Berlin which means it's about 2 min before someone takes your order or acknowledges you. Most of the seating is at the bar unless your with a large parry.. I came in alone to give a proper review. I feel that this is definite list maker so you have to stop here when visiting berlin or if your in the mood for a well made drink. This was the first bar I went to in Berlin. Being very tired from the flight, but willing to go out to get a taste of the local life, we settled on The Green Door. When I first got there, the door wouldn't open. I quickly figured out you had to ring a bell to get admission. Being me, I immediately freaked out- will we be rejected? Is there a strict dress code? Suddenly, a rather large man appeared at the door and started to speak German...before I could say "ich spreche kein Deutsch", he just told us to "get in here". The atmosphere was art deco with a hint of German kitsch. The staff was friendly and they made some great cocktails for us. A bit pricey, but hey, we were on vacation. This is by far my favorite speakeasy anywhere. More than just hype; the door is actually green. Then you ring the doorbell and someone let's you in. For us, it was our mixologist Robert from Alaska. Lol. No not really from Alaska but he wouldn't tell us where he was from. Robert is extremely knowledgeable and although "dark & moody" like one of the drinks he made me, willing to educate us on genevers and other things we didn't know about. A friend who had grown up in Berlin and frequents the city often recommended this bar to me so on our first night, we headed over! She noted it was a bit speakeasy style with only a sign on top of a green door and you'd have to ring the doorbell to get in. Since it was a Saturday night, we figured it would be busy so we came soon after they opened at 6pm to guarantee a spot. It also meant we were able to enjoy their happy hour from 6-8pm. The drink menu is extensive and I went with a classic, the Mai Tai. All I have to say was that it was very very strong. The decor of this bar will catch your eye right away. It's kitschy with gingham wall paper and a bit of a 70's vibe. I suggest sitting at the bar and watching the bartenders do their thing. Located by Nollendorfplatz Station, it's worth a trek over to visit for a good drink. Note: this bar allows smoking! read more

I returned to the Green Door a few weeks back on my visit to Berlin. I was so excited to get back here and drink my favorite drinks, mixed by my favorite bartenders. Well, the tide has turned. We came in on a Monday evening. It was a little crowded but not nearly as full as I have seen it. The hostess was super unfriendly from the beginning. I asked her if Sebastian (one of the bartenders I got to know a little over the years) would be coming in tonight. She said, she doesn't think so. So I asked what day he would be in to which she said that Sebastian actually does not work there anymore. She added that there are other, very competent bartenders to serve me. Excuse me? If things got sour between you guys, how is that my problem? A few minutes later, some of my friends arrived (a total of three) who she left waiting outside while interrogating me, if I was expecting more guests. I said yes to which she said that "on a Monday night, without reservation? That is not possible." Wow, ok. I left of course and we went over to Mr. Hu, a great bar just up the road, run by Sebastian's cousin Saša. Rude, unwelcoming "service". Not friendly at all and basically ruined my 6 year relationship with that bar. That hostess is a crow and does not even remotely reflect the potential of this place. read more

Cool and vibrant cocktail bar near Nollendorfplatz. Don't be put off by the closed green door, that's just part of the place's gimmick. Ring the bell to get in and enjoy the plethora of cocktails on offer. My one complaint was that I asked for a Long Vodka which is my drink of choice and widely known in Edinburgh, only to be served with something that bore no resemblance in taste or serving. This place was great, mostly due to the nice female bartender (the guys kind of had sticks up their asses). Feels a little like a prohibition era bar, cocktail list is a mile long. I went with the mango margarita not realizing it was frozen but it was a nice drink (see pic) and she put a lot of care into it. Friend enjoyed his kamikaze. Yes, I enjoy coming here; but I can't tell you why. I kid. I love coming here because the drinks are great! But, at 8-10 euros for that long drink you've been longing for; you can't guzzle. I guess some can, I can't. Moving on... I'll just agree with a previous qyper said about the staff and add that it really only is one person not ALL the bartenders. And after the flip-flop incident (it was summer after all and I'm american), the trouble-maker did a flip-flop himself. All and all, I love the green door. I love talking to the bartenders when they aren't working their little pitutties off. If you want some romantic time arrive early to get the initimate feel that you want. I feel that after 10pm, this place gets crowded. I usually come here first if I'm going out for a night out on the town because it really does a good job of setting the stage for the rest of the evening. read more

What a unique and different kind of a place. Small room, limited amount of people inside, good music and a very knowledgable bartenders. The drink many is very unusual but great. I think this place might simply need another bartender. The one they have is amazing, but he is over-extended. The drinks are great and varied, the list is extensive, and the drinks are strong. But you should expect a wait while your cocktail is being made. We went to this bar back in February while staying in Berlin. After booking accomodation around the corner I discovered that it was right around the corner. Ringing the doorbell for entry was rather quaint and the lady in charge was really nice. We were a group of 6 people and they didn't have a table big enough for us she told us to come back in an hour and she would make room. Then reccomended somewhere else that we could go while we wait, after realising that she had given us the wrong information she then came out onto the street after we had all trooped out to tell us that she had made a mistake. Anyway we went back about an hour later and they had made room for us and the drinks and ambience were lovely - if a little pricey. Only downside - smokers read more

Being a world traveller, and having lived in San francisco for so long, i've been to my share of top cocktail bars. But i've never found one so overwhelming as the Green Door in Berlin. A friend in Santa Monica told me i must go there a few weeks before my first visit, otherwise i wouldn't even have known. My reward was simply being there three times already. It's not fancy, which already puts the green door ahead of most world class cocktail bars, which are mostly situated in or near elegant hotels. Here you can comfortably order from a vast selection of top shelf drinks. Hard to select? Just start by listing some taste or alcohol directions to your bartender, and he or she will softly guide you to where you want to be. Then the drinks come. You can't find better. And great music from different tastes to guide the evening conversation along. The crowd is a proper mix of arty travelers, arty berliners, and arty drinkers, with some normal people of all ages thrwon into the mix. Fitting for a cocktail bar owned by a screenwriter who worked with Fassbinder. Green Door, though smaller, equals the ambiance of Tosca's in Frisco, but the cocktails are what makes the evening stand out. Too expensive? No, you pay more at most high class bars for less. Coming from a Wiesen with my boyfriend wearing Lederhosen.. we were told No short-shorts! That's easy enough to laugh off, considering it was a queen with over plucked eye brows scowling at us. (he still let us in to join our friend's birthday drinks) The third and final time was last night with a friend from Australia. The guests behind us were dressed like yuppies from Munich. And that's exactly what this place expects in their clientele. I can approve these people the door woman said, as they pushed through our group. Freshly approved. You guys wouldn't have fun, its too crowded and you wouldn't get your drinks for hours. And promptly shut the door. I won't make a joke about an old Woman's use of make up. But I might suggest Stagger Lee, around the corner in a cool American western style. Better drinks, no golden girl divas.
