Not even a little bit surprised to see that Treasured Pearls has 5 stars…read more Let's start with the fact that they never double-book, so when you walk in, the staff are ready for you. I have only ever had to wait when an emergency patient took priority over my cleaning. Rather than having the hygienist give you a cleaning and then getting a quick cursory exam from the dentist, Dr. Barnes will do your cleaning. They have computerized everything, so that your records are easily accessible and update-able. Cathy, the receptionist is so warm and nice, she puts you at ease as soon as you walk in (in fact, she always greets me by name). She also is great at explaining any questions you might have about billing. This is where I refer all my friends and colleagues, and I hope that I never have to find another dentist.

Dr. McKenzie is sloppy, incompetent, inconsiderate, and terrible with children. Though it looks…read morelike some other reviewers have had better experiences with her, I note that she gives patients giftcards in exchange for positive reviews. My two young children were patients of Dr. McKenzie from 2025-2026; though we have had problems with her from the beginning, we put up with her because her office was conveniently located downtown. We had made our first appointment with her for a routine cleaning, for which she charged us $398. When my children showed minor discomfort with the dental chair, instead of working with my children or giving me a chance to put them at ease, she made me take more time off of work to come back later. During the follow-up appointment, the cleaning was less thorough than the twice-daily brushing that the children have at home. She did not use a polisher or any other dental tools, and the only task that she did that I could not do myself was apply flouride paste to the children's teeth. We came back after my daughter fell and injured her mouth. I had mistakenly thought that my daughter's tooth had fallen out and wanted to get the injury professionally examined. Dr. McKenzie was so inept that, even after examining my daughter, she did not realize that the tooth was actually pushed into my daughter's gum. (I found out weeks later after the tooth began reemerging.) The last straw for us happened when we were 15 minutes late for one of the children's appointments due to a subway delay. (The children had back to back appointments scheduled at 10am and 1030am.) We had called in advance of the appointment to let Dr. McKenzie know that we would be running late and provided an accurate ETA, and Dr. McKenzie's assistant told us that we could still come in. It was not until after we arrived that we were told that both of the appointments would be cancelled, even though we had called ahead and were 15 minutes early for the second appointment, and that we would be charged a $200 cancellation fee.

As soon as I arrived for my appointment, they were ready to take me to the back. The quality of…read morecare was very good and all my questions were answered with knowledge and enthusiasm. I will certainly stay here.

I discovered Children's Choice Pediatric Dentist last year when I was on a search for Black-owned…read moredental offices in PG County. My daughter has attended Children's Choice a total of 3 times. Each time, it has been a pretty pleasant experience. We spent no longer than 3-5 minutes waiting to be taken back, if that, and my daughter never left with any tears. The dental hygienists were patient and understanding and met my daughter where she was at. She did not get any x-rays done her first time because she was afraid but the next time around, she was very brave and got the job done :). I like how bright and open the physical space is. I wish there was some kind of separation between the chairs, however, to give a little more privacy. It's probably not possible given the space, but it was a thought I had. I also love that the kiddos get a token and a special treat at the end of the visit... she looked forward to that the most. The only reason why I deducted a star is because one of the assistants at the front told me that they did accept my dental insurance when I spoke to her on the phone. I gave my new card at the next appointment (previously we were using medical insurance) but they still billed the old card I had on file. It turns out, they did not accept my insurance so they billed the old card I had on file (my medical insurance). Although it wasn't an expensive co-pay, I could have saved money by visiting a dental office that did in fact accept the insurance that we now had.

I really wanted to love Glow Smiles after seeing all the great reviews and social media posts…read more Growing up, we did not have enough to afford ortho work so I was excited to finally start my journey after saving for YEARS to finally have a confident smile. I've gone to multiple consultations with different orthodontic offices around the DMV finding prices so I'm very familiar with how these consultations usually go. I also spent a lot of time looking through their before and afters and felt like I could relate to some of the cases, which made me feel confident I'd be a good candidate. Unfortunately, that didn't end up being the case. What isn't clearly explained is that they mainly handle minor cases, not more complex ones. I have a crossbite, edge to edge bite, and short roots on only the front 2 teeth, so I understand my case isn't simple, but that limitation should be made clear upfront. I took a day off work for the first time in over a year and drove an hour to get there. Dr. Reza was very kind and professional, but some of the staff came off a bit short and distant. It was busy, which I understand, but the overall experience felt rushed. Another thing that stood out to me was during the x-rays, I wasn't asked to remove any jewelry or given a protective vest, which felt dangerous and honestly a bit unprofessional considering I was right in front of an x-ray machine (twice.) I was told my only option with them was to only fix my front six teeth, not my full bite or molars. I seriously considered it especially when I asked if that would significantly reduce the cost, Dr. Reza said yes. However, when I sat down for pricing, it ended up being even higher than what's advertised online, just to treat those six teeth. The teeth whitening surcharge cannot be taken off confirmed by the consultant. But I did love that there is a lifetime warranty for $25 for a loss or broken retainer after the retainer program is paid for (adding $500-600) to the bill. I even asked if pricing was based on each individual case, and I was told no, that the pricing is set based on what's on their papers. That didn't really sit right with me, especially after being told it would be reduced + what's online. When I asked if I could speak with the Dr.Reza again to the pricing consultant after he stepped out, I wasn't able to since he was across the room. So I feel like some of my questions were left unanswered and felt lost in my journey again. If you have anything beyond a minor case. I would honestly steer away and look into other options. This seems better suited for simple, easier cases. They need more transparency about what they can actually treat and more consistency. Edit: I also requested my X rays after my consultation, which I usually do at other orthodontic offices, and was told there is a $25 charge for them. I've never been charged for this elsewhere so that felt a bit off. I told the lady I wasn't going to argue about it, but it just added to my overall experience.
