I've been a patient at this office for several years, and while my dental health has always been…read morevery good, I've repeatedly felt pressured by the hygienists/doctors to purchase extra products or agree to additional procedures that didn't seem necessary. Last year I called to express my overall dissatisfaction as well as my desire to no longer move forward with the office as a patient, but the customer care agent convinced me to try a different hygienist (which I did, and that subsequent visit was fine). At my most recent routine cleaning visit, my cleaning was done by a visiting dentist who told me I had two cavities that would need to be drilled and filled. I then asked the regular dentist (Dr. Talwar) to confirm those findings, and while she did confirm the presence of the two alleged cavities, she also mentioned that they were "pretty small" and would be easy to repair. She even offered to do the procedure during that same visit since it wouldn't require anesthetic. The whole situation felt very misaligned from my actual oral health history, especially given that I have *never* had a cavity before, so I decided to get a second opinion before undergoing an irreversible treatment. A week later, I visited a different dental office with excellent referrals, and that dentist reviewed my X‑rays and examined my teeth. She quickly determined that there were zero cavities to be found in any of my teeth, and that I have a very healthy mouth overall. When I asked her to hone in on the two specific teeth that the Advanced Dental Care team had identified as having "cavities", the new doctor explained that those teeth have natural anatomical grooves which the other dentists may have interpreted as early-onset areas of decay...but she was very clear that there was no clinical basis for drilling into any of my teeth. I'm SO glad that I trusted my instincts in this situation, but it's unsettling to think I was advised to undergo unnecessary dental work (especially after their long pattern of upselling leading up to this point). I'm sharing this so that other patients know to advocate for themselves and seek second opinions if something doesn't feel right. I also hope that the Advanced Dental Care team reflects on this experience, because trust is a crucial foundation of any healthcare relationship. I do want to specifically thank the administrative team at this office for always being very courteous and customer-service focused...I've always greatly appreciated your helpful attention anytime I've needed help with scheduling or billing issues. Though I will no longer be a patient at this office, I wish this team all the best in the future.

Dr. Ashton is by far the best dentist I've seen in over 30 years…read more First of all, Dr. Ashton is highly intelligent and was able to sort through my case expertly and quickly, with insights that made sense to me--alas! I went to Dr. Ashton as a 4th opinion for a tooth that had been mistreated by a few previous dentists, leaving me suffering with severe tooth pain for a few years, with a high risk of a root canal. Dr. Ashton used his 3D x-rays to show me exactly why that tooth was so vulnerable. He handled the tooth very conservatively, causing no pain, and also addressed every aspect of what I could do to minimize future dental issues. It's clear that Dr. Ashton keeps current on dental advances, from his 3D x-ray machine (I've only seen at universities like UCLA TMD department), to topical solutions for dry mouth. Why didn't any of the other many dentists or speech and language pathologists I've seen notice my severe dry mouth, which has contributed to my long-term tooth sensitivity, possibly my receded gums and swallowing difficulties too? (Dr. Ashton didn't make those claims but they seem to apply to me based on the improvement I feel already and some studies I've read since his opened my eyes too this issue.) I bet the severe dryness is part of why, if only one person at a dinner table has food stuck to their teeth, it's me. There is so much else that I can say in praise of Dr. Ashton. He is extremely caring and thorough, leaving no stone unturned in addressing my complex case. I don't think Dr. Ashton needs another raving review, but I felt compelled to share my experience.

This review is more for Yelp than for Leesburg Family Dentistry. I've submitted two reviews for…read morethis office, all five stars, and I used to be able to see other good reviews, but, only one, very negative review shows now because it is recommended and the rest of ours are not. Let me restate some of my previous reviews - I have been a patient of the original dentist, Dr. Nelson for over 23 years and followed him when he moved to the current location. I have been a patient of Dr. Garcia for a little over a year and I am very pleased. He has helped me with an awful fear I developed of having dental work done. He's done two crowns and a root canal for me - so I know of what I speak. So, back to Yelp.... The negative review gives this practice a undeserved 1 star rating, because if a human read the review, rather than it being rated by an algorithm, it is very apparent that the reviewer was upset that the previous dentist left abruptly and didn't prepare the staff or the patients for the change in a timely manner. She rated the dentist and the office during their first difficult week, before the staff were even used to Dr. Garcia's name yet. So, I've been told that it is a computer algorithm that recommends ratings by several factors -it does not like one star or five star ratings, it does not recommend reviewers unless they have many reviews, especially reviews of varied stars, or if they are popular, etc. Yelp prides themselves on the fact that there is no human involved in the process to keep the system as unbiased as possible - but I say that there are times a rating must be read by a human, too. This is a glaring example of that. To think that someone needing a dentist in hurry, like I did when I broke my tooth, finding this rating and choosing another dentist based on one reviewers inconsiderate review. Dr. Garcia got me right in, he was able to take care of everything in his office, a one stop shop which is a far cry from what I experienced before. So, for the record, I give Dr. Garcia and his staff a 5 star rating, and Yelp a three star rating which will give Dr. Garcia a 4 - to please an algorithm so that by some chance this review will be recommended and help counter one woman's unfair review. What a mouthful...
