I went to Dr. Ashton as a 4th opinion for a tooth that had been mistreated by a few previous dentists, leaving me suffering with severe tooth pain for a few years, with a high risk of a root canal. Dr. Ashton used his 3D x-rays to show me exactly why that tooth was so vulnerable. He handled the tooth very conservatively, causing no pain, and also addressed every aspect of what I could do to minimize future dental issues. It's clear that Dr. Ashton keeps current on dental advances, from his 3D x-ray machine (I've only seen at universities like UCLA TMD department), to topical solutions for dry mouth. Why didn't any of the other many dentists or speech and language pathologists I've seen notice my severe dry mouth, which has contributed to my long-term tooth sensitivity, possibly my receded gums and swallowing difficulties too? (Dr. Ashton didn't make those claims but they seem to apply to me based on the improvement I feel already and some studies I've read since his opened my eyes too this issue.) I bet the severe dryness is part of why, if only one person at a dinner table has food stuck to their teeth, it's me. There is so much else that I can say in praise of Dr. Ashton. Probably because they have to either lie "of course I have been flossing!" or tell the truth "does it look like it to you?". In any case, I have been going here for my last several dental appointments. The office is very well run! I have never had to sit and wait past the time I had scheduled; it's refreshing. The other thing I like is the tools they use, it might be the norm (before finding this place I was not going in every 6 months; the longest I went was 15 years! It's okay, still rocking all my teeth, no cavities; go me!). I think before coming here it had been 3 years. Anyhow, they use a water jet to get most of the plaque, and only take out the metal tools for a final go through and to check your gums. I had the same dentist my first few visits, my last one was with a different dentist. Both were really great, they take the time to go over everything, and answer any questions I have. In closing, I also feel that they are honest. I have had experiences where the dentist says that there is a spot on the x-ray that they recommend an additional appointment to preemptively address the possibility. It's like the upsell of protection they ask you to add at Best Buy or Target. Only way more costly!

Her staff always take their time and are overly attentive with my cleanings or any concerns I may have when I visit. I did speak to Dr. Nassimi about Invisalign but she understood my concerns as a breast cancer survivor. She even confirmed that one of the meds I'm on won't allow me to do that right now. After this recommendation a "sales associate" popped in with a proposal for me to sign. I told them that the entire thing felt weird and that I was going to think about it. I went back to my previous dentist weeks later and they said nothing was wrong based on my history of grinding my teeth and my current use of a mouth guard. Run away from this place. They aren't focused on making your teeth healthy - they are focused on trying to upsell you on cosmetic surgery.

Let me restate some of my previous reviews - I have been a patient of the original dentist, Dr. Nelson for over 23 years and followed him when he moved to the current location. I have been a patient of Dr. Garcia for a little over a year and I am very pleased. He has helped me with an awful fear I developed of having dental work done. He's done two crowns and a root canal for me - so I know of what I speak. So, back to Yelp.... The negative review gives this practice a undeserved 1 star rating, because if a human read the review, rather than it being rated by an algorithm, it is very apparent that the reviewer was upset that the previous dentist left abruptly and didn't prepare the staff or the patients for the change in a timely manner. She rated the dentist and the office during their first difficult week, before the staff were even used to Dr. Garcia's name yet. So, I've been told that it is a computer algorithm that recommends ratings by several factors -it does not like one star or five star ratings, it does not recommend reviewers unless they have many reviews, especially reviews of varied stars, or if they are popular, etc. Yelp prides themselves on the fact that there is no human involved in the process to keep the system as unbiased as possible - but I say that there are times a rating must be read by a human, too. This is a glaring example of that. To think that someone needing a dentist in hurry, like I did when I broke my tooth, finding this rating and choosing another dentist based on one reviewers inconsiderate review. Dr. Garcia got me right in, he was able to take care of everything in his office, a one stop shop which is a far cry from what I experienced before. " she made sure that I felt as little pain as realistically possible. Of course some pressures and pains are unavoidable. But she made a lot of effort to make sure I felt as little pain as possible.
