Extremely Disappointed With True Grit Concrete (Tru-Grit Concrete)
We recently hired True Grit Concrete (also listed as Tru-Grit Concrete), owned by Marcus Flegge, to install a new driveway and perform related concrete work at our home. Unfortunately, our experience was filled with poor communication, incomplete work, questionable workmanship, and a complete lack of follow-through.
1. Failure to Communicate
The installation was scheduled for July 8, 2026, but the crew never showed up. The only reason I learned the project had been postponed was because I contacted Marcus myself later that morning. I was told that one of the workers was sick and they needed to reschedule. At no point did anyone from the company make the professional courtesy of notifying me beforehand.
2. Incomplete Porch Repairs
Part of the agreed-upon work included repairs to my porches. What was completed appears to be only partially finished. The repairs look incomplete and do not reflect the work that was promised.
3. Poor Workmanship on the Driveway
The driveway itself shows obvious quality issues. The lines are not straight, and one side of the driveway actually curves into a noticeable hook near the end. These are not minor cosmetic issues. They are visible defects that should have been caught and corrected by experienced concrete contractors.
4. Paid for Work That Was Not Properly Completed
I paid extra for a concrete pad for my garbage cans. The finished pad is approximately six inches too short and does not meet the specifications that were discussed.
5. Misleading Final Walk-Through
My biggest mistake was trusting the contractor's word.
I paid for the project before the concrete had fully cured. At the time, the forms and boards were still in place, concealing several of the defects that became obvious later. When payment was made, I was assured they would return the following day to finish the porch work and clean up the property.
That did not happen.
The next day, the forms and tools were gone, but the promised repairs had not been completed. In addition, chunks of concrete, long screws, and construction debris were left scattered throughout the yard. This created a hazard and made mowing the lawn difficult and potentially dangerous.
6. Complete Lack of Customer Service
After discovering these issues, I repeatedly attempted to contact the company to discuss the problems and seek resolution.
My calls and messages have gone unanswered.
As of July 24, 2026, there has been no meaningful response and no effort to address the problems. Once payment was received, communication effectively stopped.
Final Thoughts
I want to caution anyone considering doing business with Marcus Flegge, his partner Kyle, or True Grit Concrete/Tru-Grit Concrete. Based on my experience, I would be extremely skeptical of any promises regarding schedules, workmanship, cleanup, or follow-up service.
I am not a wealthy person. Spending thousands of dollars on a major home improvement project is a significant investment, and receiving incomplete, substandard work is frustrating and disappointing. As an older homeowner, I feel that my trust was taken advantage of.
What is most troubling is that I have since found reviews from other customers describing experiences that are remarkably similar to mine. That raises serious concerns about whether this is an isolated incident or a recurring business practice.
I have photographs documenting the workmanship issues and the condition in which the property was left.
My Advice
If you are considering concrete work, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend True Grit Concrete (Tru-Grit Concrete) and would advise potential customers to proceed with extreme caution.
