I called the Clackamas location, and they were able to get me scheduled quickly. I brought the coach in at 7:00 AM and spoke with the shop manager to review the issue. A short time later, I returned and met with the technician, who had already started evaluating the problem. He was extremely knowledgeable about RVs, clearly explained his plan of attack, and it aligned exactly with what I believed needed to be done. He estimated the repair would be completed by lunchtime. When I checked back at lunch, the work was finished and done to my complete satisfaction. I also noticed the care they took to protect the interior--floor mats were in place and the seat was covered with plastic to keep everything clean. I usually do auto repairs myself, but transmissions are really intricate and I didn't feel comfortable trying to do this on my own. But Paul spoke my language, made me feel like he was being completely up-front and honest, and the results speak for themselves: the transmission works better than ever now, and has for over a thousand miles. Paul also went the extra mile (well, more like 100 mi) and spent time on the phone with the other shop, their insurance company, etc. He helped convince them that the issue had ACTUALLY been caused by a faulty installation of parts, so in the end insurance covered the cost. Here is what…read more$5050 and 18 months bought at Bill's Datsun: $1900 to overhaul and rebuild the brakes. $1000 to remove the motor, clean and disassemble and detail. $666.03 in clutch parts to which can be purchased together as a set online for $408. $425 in labor to polish the crank, hone the cylinders and mic and knurl the pistons. $400 for the new pistons. And a small box of new seals and bearings to make up the remainder, most parts appear to be marked up 30%. I have a block and 8 boxes of parts. All the rebuilding effort has been done to the bottom of the engine. I still need to do everything to the top. In my experience I would be very cautious about using this shop for anything more than maintenance. Jock has had numerous health issues that interfered with completing this project. Based on my experience, I'm afraid large projects are beyond the scope of service they are able to reliably deliver at this time.
