I've been meaning to try this place, and now wish I had discovered it earlier. It was a bit overwhelming for me ... so many choices and everything looked so good! I tried the meatloaf (at the recommendation of a customer who came to the counter for a bag to take home the leftovers from very hefty servings). It was the best meatloaf I've ever had! The Mac & cheese and green beans were also very good ... good downhome cooking! I will definitely be back! Apparently the owners are opening some other locations (Aurelia & Forest, for one) and seem to be stretched for help. The restaurant was clean and cozy.

Smothered Pork Chops

Been wanting to try truckers cafe and that time finally came. They offer a variety of southern comfort dishes. I went in for the smothered pork chop with the Mac and cheese and cabbage. I had the koolaid and the banana pudding as well and might i say nothing disappointed. The pork chop was magnificent, the koolaid was quenching and the banana pudding at the end was just super.

I was hoping to love it but it was mediocre. The Mac and cheese was cold (barely even room temperature) so I had to have them microwave it. The fish did not taste clean at all. Surprisingly the broccoli and cheese was super delicious.

Overall this was a great place to eat. It was my first time going as we just picked a random spot for lunch. I ordered a smoked Turkey leg with 4 sides (Mac n Cheese, mixed veggies, squash n cheese, collard greens) along with a drink. The entree was $39 plus drink plus tax of course. The other plate was smothered pork chops with 2 sides for $17 Price 5 out of 5 stars - Based on the food portion it was priced right. Too much food to eat for one person or at one time so leftovers happened :) Taste 5 out of 5 - Everything was seasoned on point and not overdone. Customer Service - 5 out of 5 - We were greeted immediately, the restaurant was clean, and all of the dishes were explained. The staff made you feel like family. I will recommend this spot based on my experience and will be returning.

Hands down the best meatloaf in DFW. I came in for lunch and ordered to go. Took 15 minutes waiting for my order and I was happy to wait, but just wished they offered me some drink while waiting. They offer dine-in customer drinks and there are many you can choose from frozen drinks like margarita or a rum. The salad is not your typical salad- HUGE portions which we love! We paid about $50 for the salad and meatloaf and drove 30minutes to get to this place but it was worth it!! The moment you walk in, you will smell the delicious food. They have a nice seating area with a tv to enjoy the dine in vibe. Definitely a place to check out if you haven't been here.

Oxtails and Fried Cabbage and Okra

So happy to see this kind of restaurant on my side of town. It's not the fanciest place, but decent enough to dine inside to get some comfort food. You can also do carry out. The staff is funny and friendly. The portions are generous so I'm ok with the cost. I was happy to support a small minority owned business. So let's talk food. Some of the food was good and some was just ok. I need to go back once more to make up my mind. I need to try a few more things. Cabbage gets 4 STARS yummy and seasoned well! Okra gets 4 STARS loved the onions and tomatoes mixed in with the okra. Oxtails 3 STARS were well seasoned. Ribs 2 STARS not a fan of the sauce and meat lacked seasoning. Mac and Cheese 1STAR was cheesy and just ok. Southern Greens were tasty 3 STARS Overall I had a good experience. This is food that definitely fills you up and sticks to your bones, butt, waistline and thighs.

Pot roast, cheesy squash, and mashed potatoes n gravy. YUM!

Beef Tips and rice with collard greens and sweet potatoes.

I have to give it a 5 star rating, especially when you have been looking for soul food in Richardson. I knew this was going to be good when I saw a young man going in at the counter. Always a good sign! I saw the pictures on yelp and had made up my mind prior to going. The beef tip were tender and gravy nice. The collards and sweet potatoes omg good as good could get. Didn't remind me of momma's cooking (but who will ever compare to that), but came awful close. I am so glad I ventured out of my corner of Richardson and found this hidden gem! I'll be back!

I had the brisket and pork ribs. The brisket was very good. Loved the smoky flavor and how juicy it was. By itself was good, but if you had the House BBQ sauce or Carolina sauce to it, the flavor gets better. The House sauce was sweeter, while the Carolina was tangier. I enjoyed the Carolina sauce a bit more. The ribs were good as well. Loved the seasoning and smoke. The meat was tender and easy to take off the bone. The half pound portion was good enough to pair with the sides I had. The macaroni was good. It was creamy and had a wonderful flavor. The noodles were cooked well. The cheese was very tasty and gooey. The cole slaw was nice. Loved the crunch of the vegetables and the acidity of the sauce. Great vegetable element to pair with the meat. The bread roll was good. Nice, warm, and soft. Had a little sweetness to it. Great way to pair it with the brisket. The banana pudding was excellent. Loved the sweetness and creaminess. The bits of graham crackers made it more enjoyable. Getting it was a must to end my meal. The sweet flavor was not too overwhelming and banana flavor was very good. The beer was good. It was light and refreshing. Great way to wash down my meal for the night. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The servers who cut the meats were very friendly and efficient. Great customer service for the recommendation on the banana pudding. Wonderful setup in the restaurant. Nice to see the smokers. First time ever trying Texas barbecue. Great experience here. Would love to check it out again sometime.

Juicy and well seasoned with a nice crispy top. We got lean pieces without too much fat on it which was perfect! The Dino rib was humongous! I was hoping the meat would've been fall off the bone tender but it wasn't. I think it would've been better if it were more tender. The pork ribs and burnt ends were pretty solid as well. Good seasoning and the burnt ends had a good crisp to it. I think if they cut the burnt ends smaller it would be more crispy lol I really love a good baked potato and this has to be one of the best loaded baked potato's out there! The potato was soft and stuffed with butter, cheese, bacon and chives. It's good to eat with the meats to balance out some of the flavors. I was craving a good corn bread and this one was pretty good. It was moist and fluffy with the perfect amount of sweet and corn ratio. Overall it was pretty good bbq! The spicy bbq sauce was pretty good to me but my parents still liked Rudy's better. The ribs were okay... good flavor but kind of dry. Texas twinky was okay... solid spice.

It's a smaller place in downtown Garland and there are some tables to sit and eat at and we went around 7:30pm on a Friday night and it wasn't crowded at all. We were greeted as we walked in and since it was our first time I had some questions and they were very helpful. It's a little different than most BBQ places as you can often get a plate with one, two, or three meats and sides. Here, you order à la carte with the meats and pay the per pound price and the sides come in a small and large size priced accordingly. We ordered a pound of moist brisket, 1/2lb of ribs, a large Mac and cheese and small beans for 3 people. Everything was really delicious with the brisket having a nice smoke flavor and very tender and the ribs falling off the bone with some nice seasoning and very flavorful. For the sides the Mac and cheese was the winner as it was creamy and very well seasoned. The beans were good but for me it had some kind of tang, possibly tomato base with shreds of meat in the beans. When we left we were also thanked for coming in which a lot of businesses overlook. The food is outstanding and the service friendly. We will definitely be going back. If you are in the garland area definitely check this place out.
