I've experienced just about every iteration of Tru Yoga, and honestly, this is the best one yet. Vanessa and Kass are wonderful people who genuinely love what they do. They have a great social media presence, and the website is easy to navigate. No matter your yoga level, there's something for everyone--and if you're not sure, just shoot them an email or DM. They offer a nice series of classes and special events, even on Thanksgiving morning, Christmas Day morning, and New Year's Day morning. The studio has a serene, relaxed atmosphere, and whoever is at the desk always seems genuinely happy to see you. I'm really enjoying coming here for classes and trying new things. If you're unsure about yoga, don't be--it's a safe, welcoming space. They offer a variety of classes, including vinyasa, restorative, yin, and other special classes. Everyone is welcome here. Parking is available on the street, with a few spaces in the back. Namaste. read more

Went here and really enjoyed myself. There are smaller class sizes so you get a personalized touch and attention, which is great for beginners. Wide open and peaceful floor plan made for so much needed peace! Definitely recommend read more

My personal trainer had recommended I do yoga in addition to my other training, and Tru was close to where I lived. I decided to take advantage of their new member two week unlimited pass for $20, which is more than reasonable. The space is very open and welcoming, all the people who work the front desk are friendly and attentive and willing to answer questions. I've thoroughly enjoyed the classes I've taken, I really enjoy that the front window looks out onto the city it gives it a cool feel. What really assured I'll be purchasing a full membership has been their customer service. I injured my foot and haven't been able to much of anything. Quick message to their Facebook and they have been more than willing to work with me! I look forward to healing up and starting my practice again! read more

I am 6 months into my journey with Tru and excited about every chance I get to spend in the beautiful new space. I love every instructor I've interacted with and I learn from each of them. I recommend the workshops! There was a beginners one that no true beginners signed up for, and Imani turned it into a great back to the basics workshop. read more

I've taken a few classes here, both yoga and meditation, and it's a very peaceful place to practice. I'm especially excited since I'm moving directly across the street from their studio, I'll be able to walk right over and get my yoga on whenever I'm in need of some serenity. Their online booking system is incredibly user friendly and easy to navigate, and they have multiple tiers of memberships to cater your experience to your needs. read more

In my quest to be better and accepting with who I am and why I am, my path came to Tru Yoga. Earlier in life I'd find myself pushing iron in a gym, or powering through a rugby tournament. Both of those things are fantastic; however I've never really been able to be, act, or accept who I am through those releases. Tru Yoga offers an alternative viewpoint. It doesn't matter who you are, where you come from, or what you carry. All is shed at the door as you lose your outside self through movement; living with PTSD & constant anxiety, this is huge for me! No this isn't guided meditation or some funky religious hippie thing that mainstream media shows it as. If I've started to lose you, read on... Too Butch, Bitch, Masculine, Feminine, or judgmental in general; I challenge you to experience this positive, powerful experience. Build your strength through Foundation classes or burn through a fast and heated Open Vinyasa. This is yoga at your pace. All instructors are extremely talented and welcoming. I enjoy classes with Aimie and Eric. For those of you who like a groove to your Yoga, check out Jen. They have many membership options and for newcomers, 2 weeks unlimited classes for $20. Drop-ins for $14. Cold water, coconut water, super queer-friendly with All Gender bathrooms. Ooh and plenty of parking in the parking lot next to German House (but don't park in their lot)! You can check out classes and memberships online and pre-register. Challenge your body, your mind, and the image that you've created for yourself! read more

I love, love, love Tru Yoga. For the longest time I didn't think I was that into yoga. All of my friends were off obsessing, enjoying every moment of their classes, and I just didn't get it. I'd tried a bunch of different studios in different cities, it really seemed that I wasn't destined to do yoga. But, last fall they had a 3 week for $30 pass at the southwedge-ucation event, and I figured I may as well give it another shot. It seemed like a pretty good deal, and the studio is in my neighborhood and on my way home, so, why not? It took me quite a few months to go, but it was worth it! If you've never really done yoga I strongly suggest buying their 2 weeks for $20 pass. The pass lets you try out all of their classes, and you can figure out what fits your schedule, and what kinds of classes you like more than others. As an inflexible, somewhat beginner I managed to find the right combo of classes that suited my needs and I couldn't be happier! The teachers are lovely, and everyone is super friendly and encouraging (teachers, staff, and other participants). I'm currently super fond of attending at least one restorative / meditative class a week; it really helps me unwind and de-stress. Everyone does yoga for different reasons. I thought I wanted to get into it for the exercise / stretching, but in many ways what I really needed it for was the meditation, and to figure out what my body really needed. Sounds kind of cheesy, but there it is. read more

I graduated from University of Rochester 11 years ago and still come back here a few times a year and have been to many yoga classes in the area but this is by far the best studio in Rochester. Why? The owners run this place with love and kindness. The instructors are all amazing, and I always have a great experience. They always take the time to help me get into a pose a little bit deeper or gently correct my posture if its off. They are welcoming of all levels so if you're new or worried about your skill level, this is a great place to start yoga. They also have a good variety of classes throughout the day, so I'm always able to find one that fits my schedule. The studios and bathrooms are always clean, and the ambience of the entire place will make you feel more relaxed the second you walk in. Highly recommend checking this place out. If i lived here year round I would come here everyday. But for now, I will practice here whenever I come to rochester for work or pleasure. read more

I feel so lucky to have a space like Tru Yoga in my neighborhood to practice Yoga. I have been consistently practicing for about two years now and I feel that the variety of classes, teacher expertise, and personalized instruction is unparalleled to other Yoga studios in the area and even compared to my yoga studios in the DC area! Believe me when I say I've checked out all that Rochester has to offer before selecting Tru for membership but this is really the place for me. Unlike other yoga studios the variety is really refreshing and you can really take a class depending on what you feel you need. Sometimes I go for a more rigorous class and other days I need a restorative or meditative practice, and they have it all! I have learned so much these past two years and will continue to evolve my practice here at Tru for as long as im here in Rochester. Everyone has there own preferences to class and teacher style so I would encourage you to really take advantage of the two week unlimited pass in order to find the teachers you enjoy. When my mom came to visit I took her to Danielle Saturday morning vinyasa flow class and she was raving about how good of a instructor she was. My mom is an experienced yogi practicing for over 25 years. She especially loved all the beautifully inked people practicing which is not the norm at yoga studios in the DC area! This place harbors an intimate community feel, I wish they would sponsor some community events since its hard to really get to know people on the mat! But just come as you are and you will feel pleasantly at home. read more

I took the 101 class with Danielle and it was great! The space is big, clean and peaceful. They offer a great variety of yoga experiences and the teachers seem really knowledgeable in their areas of expertise. If you want to start slow they have gentle classes, if you want something intense they have a class called Power Body, I think that sounds pretty self explanatory. They even have "Lunch Hour Vinyasa" for an hour in the middle of the day. As a newbie it can feel quite intimidating to start yoga, but the teachers are EXTRA welcoming and friendly to newcomers. They truly want you to be there and practicing no matter your experience level. I intend to start going as regularly as I can afford to :) read more

Wow. I've loved every class that I have been to at Tru. I've now been to 103 classes in the last 231 days and they have all been awesome! I couldn't be happier with this studio. Monthly membership has been worth it and I love having a place to store my mat so I'm not bringing it back & forth. They also have hair ties if you forget one, which is genius. The new student intro pass for $20 is an amazing deal and really got me into it. Adding the Tru Yoga calendar to my phone makes it easy to see when classes are and who is teaching them. The student access area of the website lets you plan your week and reserve a spot in the classes you want to take. I fell totally in love with the warm, peaceful & positive energy of both the studio and everyone who works & practices there. I feel like they Tru team cares about their teachers, students and community. Getting the unlimited pass was a no-brainer. I LOVE that they have yoga basically all day, every day, with 3 evening classes on weekdays so I can almost always get to one after work - even if I'm at the office until 7. All the teachers have been amazing. They are so supportive about meeting you where you are and helping take you wherever you want to be with your practice. I love how many of them offer modifications to poses to make them less intense, or ways to deepen a stretch when that's what you need. They really can teach to all levels, which is awesome. Some classes, like Joy's foundations class on Sundays, help you focus on proper form and learn new poses. Her emphasis on form (no wings!) puts a voice in my head that I hear every time I do a flow. Other classes, like Aimee's hatha flow class on Monday or Milo's vinyasa class on Saturday emphasize the importance of bringing yourself to the mat and appreciating where you are in the moment and taking yourself wherever you need to go. Danielle designs her hot class on Saturday morning with an uplifting intensity & pacing to help you push yourself further when you want to be pushed, or backing off when you need to. Her humor and energy sets a great tone for everyone in the room. Melanie's yin class helps you focus on calming your mind and releasing deeply held tension. I find myself using some of the breathing techniques when I'm trying to relax, fall asleep or get through a stressful day. And Tyler's classes let you mix it up - between her singing bowl and her willingness to make every class totally different based on what the group is feeling. I can't rave enough about Tru Yoga. I highly recommend you try it!! read more

I have been going to Tru for almost six years now (and doing yoga for nearly 12). They have a nice variety in terms of classes/instructor styles and times offered. The owners and the teachers are well versed and, most importantly, radiate positive energy. If you are looking for only the physical aspects of yoga, this studio may not be right for you. I would also say it's important to try out a few different classes to see who would be a good fit. I miss Amanda and Tyler, but Imani, Gina, and Aimee are my new favorites! read more

Very good experience. I enjoyed every minute of the class. I look forward to my next class at Tru Yoga

With a $20 unlimited pass for 2 weeks, you really can't pass it up. I attended a variety of classes, from restorative to hatha flow, and had to purchase a membership when my 2 weeks was up. The instructors are knowledgeable and welcoming. It's a warm, nonjudgmental place to practice yoga! read more

Where do I begin? I love that they have classes all day. I love the teachers. I love that they have All gender restrooms. I love that they have free tampons and mat spray. I love that the teachers give adjustments. It's a studio that attracts a set of really great people. I love Jen's energy and teaching style. Eric's classes are great in continuity and difficulty and his wit is an added bonus. Amy's wit and class structure/ teaching style are also gold. Tyler brings warmth and creativity to each class, she always uses the singing bowl, and sometimes she even sings herself (a real treat!). Danielle's warmth and light make each student feel welcomed, she too is a great teacher. If I left anyone out its because I haven't been able to take enough of their classes. What can I say? I found my studio. So. Much. Love. read more

What a fun little place to get your yogi on! There is a huge variety of classes and styles so they're bound to have something you love. I've found the instructors to be receptive to suggestions from the class and willing to help you in your poses which is a huge plus for me. I never know if I'm doing things right and I've gotten more feedback here than anywhere else I've gone. Tru's staff is also really quick to answer Facebook messages in case you need anything. One drawback for me is they they don't allow kids. Normally I'm cool with that, but I'd really like to bring some of my kiddos from school to try classes with me. They do offer family yoga events from time to time, though! I'll definitely be going to those with the wee ones. read more

I have only been to Tru Yoga twice, and I was hoping I'd like it a lot because their class schedule is convenient for me. The facility is nice and the classes are fairly priced, although you have to change quickly, or get there early, because there are only two bathrooms. The teachers I had both seemed competent, although one was more helpful correcting poses than the other. Oddly, no one really welcomed me at either class. Based on the yoga alone I would certainly return there, BUT here is my problem: They burn incense in the yoga room and it just about kills me. I spend the rest of the night feeling like I had hung out in a smoky bar (I'm old enough to remember that feeling). They should Google "incense toxins" because it turns out that incense emits the same cancer causing chemicals and indoor pollutants as second hand cigarette smoke! So, I probably won't go back because I like my nose and my lungs. read more

I was traveling home for the holidays and in need of some yoga to counter all of the gluttonous food and drink. It couldn't have been easier to book a class online and then pay in person. I was also able to rent a mat for $1 which was great. The studio is clean and the staff was friendly. I liked their gender neutral bathrooms. My only complaint is to please clean the rental mars. I realize I can't be too picky because I didn't want to fly with my mat but the smell was a bit distracting. read more

I'm new to Yoga, but the teacher at Tru Yoga was so knowledgeable and laid back, I felt instantly comfortable. What a great class, what a great location, and what a bargain. Support your local businesses, especially when they're as awesome as Tru Yoga! read more
