This is another fantastic MUST SEE Frank Lloyd Wright home…read more After seeing this one, my fiance and I have decided that we will try our very best to go and tour all of Frank's houses. When you pull up to this house, there is a neighborhood that is built around it. Everything preserved though that is on the property, so no need to worry. Sadly, it was raining when we went, but we still were able to have a great experience. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and went quite in depth for each part of the house. I think the tour was about an hour or so. These types of houses are very interesting because while you are being told about how the room was built, how it was used or something else related to Frank or the house, you can truly picture yourself as a member of the family that lived in the house. The tour is so great I'd do it again! Photos attached are from online. No phones allowed so I left mine in the car. Only posting pictures from the outside. See for yourself for the inside!

Our guides were Harvey and Steve, who took us through every part of the house and answered all of our questions. Steve was a patient and knowledgeable guide, and Harvey provided a wealth of stories and anecdotes that added to our appreciation of the house. As an early Wright Usonian, Affleck is well worth a visit, especially in understanding how these houses and plans evolved over time.

This unique landmark standing in the median of Hall Rd. between Hayes and Schoenherr in the Golden…read moreCorridor of Sterling Heights has become the talk of the town by both the locals and visitors to our area. From its early beginnings when some were scratching their heads at the thought of this round object sitting in the median and then finally it's construction, it has become a conversation piece as it's sits along the busy thoroughfare. It's definitely growing on the residents who drive past it everyday. At night it is illuminated in colorful hues of purple/pink or blue and during the holidays, in green and red. It's even referenced in some Pure Michigan spoofs, as being called "The Golden Butthole". Although some have said it's an eyesore and would only consider it worthy of one star, others say it's kind of quirky, which would bump it up to two. The title of 'unofficial' landmark could possibly qualify it for three. Having our own conversation piece in the middle of one of the busiest thoroughfares, bumps it up to four. Last but not least, some would say it's originality and uniqueness is worthy of five stars. So, as expected opinions differ widely. While some remain neutral on how they feel, others either love it or hate it. In fact, it's sometimes the 'butt' of jokes and others 'pooh pooh' the design. However you look at it, it's here to stay and it's ours to embrace. I choose to look on the positive side, especially in today's uncertain world. It stands strong and proud as it grabs the attention of everyone driving past. Beauty is and always will be in the eye of the 'behole-der'. Check out the other Pure Michigan spoofs on YouTube. Sterling Heights isn't alone in it's head tilting, eyebrow raising piece of art. But we can definitely say for sure that it's home to a 'golden' ring surrounded by 'Sterling' (Heights). If you're driving along M-59 in Sterling Heights, remember it's real name.... The Halo. Our quirky little landmark in our small corner of the world. #PureMichigan

There was plenty of room for everyone. The main indoor space holds several tables and is equipped with a kitchen and restrooms. We also used a smaller barn for serving guests and used the huge lawn for vendor and beverage tents. There was also plenty of room on the grounds for a variety of food trucks and display cars for a car show. A full band was set up in an area large enough for a nice bandstand. I spoke with a woman who volunteers regularly at the venue. She had nothing but nice things to say about the management. Every inch of the grounds was clean and well-maintained. I'd definitely recommend it for events and special occasions.

An older vehicle drove the newly married couple around after the "I dos." After the ceremony, we moved indoors, which was adorned with pretty lighting and the tables were set up spectacularly. The venue was clean and they set up a drink stand when you walked in, having some popular mixed drinks available to be taken right away instead of waiting. The old car inside the reception area was a nice touch, and I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was (see the photos). I also came here for a private photo shoot about 1.5-2 years ago, and it is a lovely venue for a myriad of events.

If you live in Troy and have never been to the Troy Museum then shame on you! ;-)…read more The Troy Museum & Historic Village is a Mini-me version of Greenfield Village, but it's all about Troy. It has about ten historic structures, with plans to add two more after the purchase of the adjoining property. There isn't much of a museum in the main building, but most of the structures are from the 1800's and give you a feel for what life in rural Troy was like back then. The village consist of a log cabin (1840), a Greek Revival-style home (1865), a one room school house (Poppleton School 1877), a print shop, wagon shop, general store (1918), Old Troy Church (1837) and town hall building (1900). Information provided tells you where these structures were located in Troy. For example, the general store and the Old Troy Church were both originally located in Troy Corners (Livernois and Square Lake). Admission is free, but donation are gladly accepted. It doesn't take more than 45 minutes to view all the properties. Check out the websites for special events. You can even get married in the church and they rent out the gazebo in the center of the green for meetings, workshops and receptions. Take a step back in history and visit this quaint little museum. I knew I loved Troy for some reason!

Food is ok, my friend has been here years ago and he said the food use to me so delicious but now it's not. There was no season on the fried and strong taste of vinegar in the cabbage. The live music was very good and relaxing to us. The environment was was great. One of the entertainers has worked with Aretha Franklin in previous years. This lounge has been open for 91 years. The music part is the best. Lastly, it is highly priced. $25 per person to attend, food price and high cocktail price. I really want to come back again for the wonderful music entertainment.

I looked at their website and was happy to find a jazz band with a bassist (every Sunday night according to the website). I'd even looked at YouTube videos of the bassist and he was just what we wanted. My group of 12 made plans and went. To our dismay the band was different from that advertised on their site. Don't get me wrong, they were good but they played contemporary music and my group of older ones (55-85 yo) was looking for Jazz. That was disappointing. Second, the food. It was just ok. Several had the smothered pork chops and all said they were too salty. The whole wings were pretty good, seasoned and fried well. The other meals were hit or miss. The decor hasn't changed, ever! But that may be part of its vibe. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Still, I think we'll look for a different Jazz spot going forward.
