We had an absolute blast at a wedding hosted in the mansion. Meadow brook is beautiful and such a unique venue for a wedding. The cocktail hour was in the mansion with delicious appetizers and the reception was located in a huge tent outside. Everything was top notch and the food delicious! Top shelf open bar and we had the best time dancing the night away!!! I can't wait to come back for their holiday event.

Our wedding day was truly perfect, and we couldn't be more grateful for everything Morgan Pierce did to help make it so special. She was an absolute joy to work with. She was professional, kind, and incredibly thoughtful every step of the way. The venue was stunning and beautifully maintained. The most perfect day. Thank you to everyone involved for making our wedding unforgettable.

IF you have ever wondered how the Rich and Famous live in this country, Meadow Brook Hall offers an immersive tour of the kind of lifestyle that these folks enjoyed during the 1920's and 1930's. The mansion layout. designs/themes of the various rooms, furnishings, decorations and artwork are fascinating. As an added layer to this tour, it is intertwined with the story of the Dodge and Wilson families who built the mansion and maintained it over the years before donating the building and surrounding 1400 acres to Michigan State University and eventually on to what is now Oakland University. These stories are told by volunteers located throughout the house giving you the history of the various rooms and the family and to answer any questions you may have adds so much more to this tour versus your normal walking tour. Being an engineer and a home DIY guy, the thing that really stood out to me about this building is the level of "Old World" European Craftsmanship that went into this building. From the stonework, to the amazing finished carpentry and all its intricate woodwork, this place exhibits a level of quality that may never be seen again considering the skills and number of people required to create a house of this nature. You just just don't see this level of quality and craftsmanship in today's homes, even the newer more upscale homes, which makes this mansion very special. If you are fan of history, want to see what real American Craftsmanship looks like or just wondering what an old mansion looks like than this is probably a tour that you don't want to miss. Also the seasonal Christmas decor that is currently on display throughout the house (Dec 2023) is worth the tour alone as that is amazing in its own right.

This is a review of the Holiday House Tour regular not the light tour at night. You get to see 3 levels of the home with staff letting you know history and interesting stories about how the family lived in it. They even let you in on a few secrets. What I really liked about it, I could use my scooter on all the levels with staff taking me to the elevators so I could. There was only a few areas that was too tight but since I can walk some, I was able to still see. It took about an hour and tickets are timed for the start to make sure it is not too crowded. These sell out so you need to get them early. The many different trees are changing each year to keep it interesting. The gift shop at the end has reasonable prices and a good variety. The only draw back is the limited handicap parking but with the scooter it was still manageable. I will add this to my holiday tradition from now on.

I have lived in Rochester and the surrounding area for nearly my entire life and only just a few months ago finally went on a guided house tour of Meadow Brook Hall! I loved having the opportunity to explore this hidden (literally) gem in seemingly my own backyard and learning about the history of it. They offer several different guided tour options and they are all within $10-20, so are in a very affordable range if you're ever looking to learn a bit about Rochester history and view a gorgeous house while you're at it! Our tour guide was so knowledgeable and presented us with so much history and information throughout the tour that kept me super engaged. I am definitely so interested to come here during the holiday months as I'm sure Meadow Brook Hall will be looking stunning during that time all decked out in holiday decorations. I would highly recommend this to everyone in the area interested in history or just curious to learn about your city a bit more! Meadow Brook Hall is a beautiful sight to behold!

Beautiful estate! I loved seeing the historical home, gardens, trails and more. I enjoyed the special "Art in the Elements" event, exploring art installations in the woods created by local artists. The multi level house is stunning, and it was really fascinating to learn about Matilda Rausch and her life and vision. The docents are really friendly and helpful. I heard this place hosts of lot of weddings, balls, and special events. I can see why. It's glorious. Plenty of easy parking.

I was actually here for a dinner event with a friend that is a professor at Oakland a while back. It was the first time here for an event. I did get a chance to walk around during the reception and before the meal portion of the event started. The mansion is beautiful inside, so much beautiful wood and the detailing is fantastic here. I hear it's quite a sight and so beautifully decorated during the holidays, will have to be back for the holidays, if not this year, maybe next year. The food was good, ambiance is better and the building was the best part of the visit. It's a great spot for any special event.

Last year, on December 30, 2021, I had the opportunity to go see the Winter Wonder Lights at Meadow Brook for the Holidays. The weather was not that bad, and we had an awesome time!! I want to go back this year as they did a really good job both inside and out and I love the people that work there. They are always so nice and knowledgeable! Lots of musical spots to enjoy, plenty of lights! I'm appreciative that they came up with this idea as living in Lapeer county, a lot of the light shows like greenfield village, or downtown Detroit, Glenlore Trails-they are all pretty far. It's a great "last minute" decision you can make living not far from the area. The added addition of the tents with a "bar" was a plus. It gave us time to just enjoy the view around us. We didn't notice either that there was an abundance of people because it is so spread out. Many great spots for photo opportunities! I have always loved the estate inside and out any time of year, but I have to say Christmas is my favorite here. It really does help you be in the spirit of things, and you get a sense of what it was like for the family living their lives. Looking out over the vast snow covered property with all the decorations behind you, it was peaceful. Great event for anyone!

What a wonderful tour. Our docent was very knowledgeable about the history and related all of this in most interesting way. Our group was larger than their typical group and managed all of the logistics well. If you go, I recommend taking time to visit the children's "playhouses." It is well worth the stroll. The tour of the mansion was magnificent.

Stunning! If you love history and want to step back in time, this iconic landmark won't disappoint! It is the home of Matilda and Alfred Wilson + children. Matilda had been a widow of John Dodge - the automaker. The art, the history, the collections, and of course, the family history are all intrinsically intertwined in the majestic hills of Michigan tucked away, but very accessible. They have wheelchairs on-site that can get around to most everything. The guides are scattered throughout the home to give this place a wonderful perspective that you might not get just walking around. There is a nice gift shop on the property and you can also visit the play house and cabin where the children played in the woods. Truly worth the trip!

I visited meadow brook hall for the "art in the elements" nature walk show that had been advertised on NPR. Based on the description on NPR and the photos on the website, I thought the ticket prices of $25 for myself and $10 for my 6 year old were worth it. As we began the walk, and I saw the first couple of "installations", I wondered with dismay if they would be representative of the whole show. Sadly, they were. Basic floral arrangements accompanied by some props. Kind of high school level "art". I guess I was expecting something more dramatic, more creative, more architectural and more magical. I was expecting to see the image that was on the website, which I never came across. Also, the whole theme of the show was music...specific songs or genres. Only a couple of the installations had the songs playing alongside them, very faintly. In terms of being marked, each exhibit displayed the name of the artist, but not the particular song or music genre it was focused on, so you were left to guess, or, to find that information, you had to look on your phone at the barcode information given at the beginning of the walk. So you're walking through nature, looking at pretty sad displays, wondering what they're supposed to be about, spending time looking at your phone to find out, and wishing you could actually hear the song that the art is supposed to be about, to connect the 2. WEAK SAUCE. not worth the $ or the long drive from Detroit proper. Disappointing.

Nice venue for weddings, corporate events and fundraising. There's a golf course and the grass has never looked better in green. Attended a fundraising event and there was valet parking, go carts and shuttle service if you parked at the very end. I have not looked so much inside. There is a day tour for $10 or $15 per person. There is a gift shop to buy souvenirs. Every time I come here, the people are nice. The garden has nice flowers and a fountain that makes a good background picture:-)

Went here for art in the elements- basically floral arrangements in the wild. BONUS - got to view the grounds and do self guided tour of the home. It's wonderful how much the attendants now about the property and the family. Made me even more curious about this side of the Dodge/Wilson family. They appear to do events and what an amazing space!

If I could give them "0" stars I would. And here is why.... to start, there were 6 of us total for…read morethis tour. That's $52/person. So here is the breakdown of what that got us. This is a long story of epic fails. - a generic meet up point on a gps map, to which when we got there, there were no signs or anyone in a blue DFX shirt standing in the open waiting for us. We had to basically talk out loud and then a guy sitting down near us wandered over and realized we were his group. He did have a dfx shirt on, but hidden underneath another long sleeve button up shirt. -No bus. See photo. It was raining, and we are expecting to be driven around. My girl ran a 10K that morning with the distinct impression she wouldn't be walking around Detroit. -We start out a block from the coney places, but for some reason were guided to the furthest away place first. To which we are walking in greektown to Pizza Papalis. The guide walks us past the place until one of our crew states we are at the end of greektown near the freeway. To which the guide replied "sorry, I was looking at my phone". Keep in mind it is drizzling and we are all hungry. -We then turn around and finally get to the first stop "Pizza Papalis" to which we are seated and basically told that it takes 45min for their signature deep dish to be cooked. So basically we figured out that this should've been the last stop. So we have to settle on a thin crust pizza which isn't their best signature food... so what's the point? Our guide ordered two larges, so basically we eat about 1, and then now have to carry full carryout boxes of pizza to the next stop. -next is the Golden Fleece, also in greektown. We walk 5 buildings down stomachs absolutely full of pizza and sit down. The waitress stated that we were early. 45 minutes early, so nothing was prepared. Which got us "looks" from the guy cutting the lamb. Which reconfirmed we were going in the wrong order. The food here was great, but our tour guide spilled an entire water on the table in front of me. There will be another section later about the guide. So we are full on pizza and only eat a few gyros and again I now have multiple FULL carryout boxes I'm carting around Detroit in the rain. -the last stop is lafayette coney island. On the way we are like, I wonder which is better american or lafayette, we shouldn't have to choose right? See pic, well our guide made us choose as we were walking. So we go to Lafayette. These coneys are good! However our guide pays then comes back to the table and says that's it, tour is complete. So we never even went to american which is literally attached next door!!! -Our guide was out of place. He was a nice person, but he literally had ZERO facts about any of the places we went to. He had a lack of awareness of where we were walking to. He had to continuously look at an email on a piece of paper to try and figure out what we were supposed to be doing. He mistakenly took us on the tour backwards. He left our group multiple times at each food place for 10 minutes at a time to go smoke cigarettes. He spilled pizza and water on our tables. He actually got up from our table at Lafayette for so long that someone else took his seat. Then he tries to sell us on DFX at the end and just leaves with his food. Are tour guides supposed to leave with multiple boxes of food that the customer pays for??? This is probably an enigma tour in comparison to everything else I've seen or read about with DFX. But my major concern is this, we were all from the Detroit surrounding areas, and I got the impression our guide thought this gave him a "lazy pass". Maybe he was hungover, maybe he wasn't the normal guide, maybe he was disgruntled because he had plans that Saturday and now had to be in rainy Detroit, who knows.... BUT If we were out of town tourists, there would be a horrible feeling of being taken advantage of that would make you never want to come back. That pisses me off as a Michigan/Metro Detroit resident of 30+ years. It was bad representation of the turnaround the city is trying to accomplish and we felt like we had gotten fleeced out of our $52 per person. Nothing was learned, nothing was gained except a bloated stomach, an indecision of which coneys are better, and some sore wet feet.

Joe served as a treasure trove of knowledge regarding the city as he provided interesting facts, historical data (and even hilarious jokes) while we traversed neighborhoods such as the affluent Boston Edison District, historic Corktown, the colorful Heidelberg Project, and many, many more. The best part was that though Joe had a planned route, he offered to customize our tour on the spot to meet our varied personal interests--a service that Joe said he provides to all his guests. For instance, Joe said that if we were interested in a particular theme, such as the Motor City's vibrant music history, he would include Hitsville USA and other prominent music sights within the city. My seven-year-old niece said she was interested in toys, which made us laugh due to its randomness, but alas, Joe guided us through the aforementioned Heidelberg Project (a neighborhood in which the houses are adorned with colorful polka dots and teddy bears) and even led us into the Fisher where we gazed upon a stunning detailed Lego replica of the skyscraper in which we were standing (see pics). Whatever your specific interests are, Joe will ensure that you leave satisfied! We also appreciated that Joe provided a well-rounded and as-unbiased-as-possible perspective of the long-troubled, yet vibrant city. For instance, when we asked Joe a specific question regarding the politically-polarizing Detroit mogul Matty Maroun, he was sure to note when his facts ventured into opinion territory. This perspective proved invaluable to the sights as well: Most visitors will have heard of and/or seen photos of Detroit's tremendous blight, but Joe also showed us breathtaking extant structures from Detroit's grandiose past and he was sure to also point out new developments in the city; we visited the decrepit remains of Michigan Central Station, but Joe also took us into the spectacular Guardian Building (Wait until Joe tells you the story about the building's roof--you'll be astonished), and Joe even showed us the wonderful new Beethoven Cafe on Third Avenue where we purchased delicious coffee and pastries. Of course, any smartphone could provide both navigation and a web browser set to Wikipedia that could guide visitors on a tour of Detroit, right? WRONG! For starters, Joe is a long-time resident of Detroit, so he provided a unique and authentic perspective of life in the city. Moreover, Joe maintains an active role in Detroit city politics and stays current on city planning; therefore, Joe provided us with fascinating information regarding the city's past, present and future that we likely could not have obtained through the internet. And if you require further proof that Joe's tour provided invaluable information, consider this: out of our group of four, all of us were born and raised in the Metro-Detroit-area and all four of us have lived in the city at one point in our lives; yet Joe still showed us new sights and provided us with a wealth of new knowledge regarding our former home.
