Today was my day to serve…read more Things to remember as you arrive between 0815 and 0830 - enter only through the main entrance facing Main Street. You will be subject to 100% screening immediately upon entering the building - so leave weapons, mace, and any other questionable items behind - it's empty your pockets time, folks! Knowing that they have convenient metered parking in front of the courthouse, I learned once inside the jury room that you'd better feed those meters or be subject to a $10 fine. Paid parking is available next door in the parking structure. Free parking is also available in the city lot on North River Road, with convenient free shuttle service to the courthouse provided. I indeed parked on the street, but I was able to avoid any consideration of monetary notions, as I parked on the other side of the river where there are no meters at all. OK, truth be told, I parked in front of my house the night before, and walked the whole way - 3 blocks in all, uphill, no hitch-hiking. The jury room is on the 5th floor and they have 4 elevators to accommodate lazy Americans (yes, I took the elevator). Once inside the jury room, a quick check in with the clerk. Then select a seat in the large waiting room, or you might sit at a table toward the back reserved for quiet reading, knitting, puzzles and the like. Electrical outlets are sparsely located around the room for those who need to be tethered to technology. Speaking of technology, free wifi is available in the jury room and each of the court rooms. Laptops, tablets and smartphones were all in use as I looked around the room. The room was comfortable for my stay, although the sun was shining in the windows and warmed up the area around them. Seating was adequate, the floor was carpeted. Pleasant decor all around. Books can be ordered ahead of time online and delivered via the Michigan library system. Magazines are also available for reading. Sodas and snacks are located in vending machines near the restroom facilities in the back. One of the judges of the court stepped in to make a presentation about jury duty and how it works. I won't mention any names, because I am impartial when it comes to politics, but the judge did a good job of explaining everything. On a side note: kudos to Mrs. Switalski for giving birth to a baby boy 44 years ago! So how does this all work? How did I get selected for jury duty? Contrary to suspicions of the past, potential jurors are randomly selected from a list provided by the Michigan Secretary of State, the list compiled from a mix of persons holding driver's licenses and state issued IDs. I wasn't selected to sit in on a jury today. Now before you go pointing fingers and wondering why, I will tell you that nobody was selected today. It's just the luck of the draw. The bad part - I have to wait up to 3 weeks to get paid. With mileage added in, it will come in time to help my Christmas shopping - a hefty $12.50 for the half-day of service. In my case, I didn't get picked, so I basically sat there most of the day playing games on my phone and listening to the prior night's podcast to kill the time. As far as facilities go, decent enough. Coffee shop, cafeteria, the meters use Parkmobile (which is always a bonus in my view), and the security folks have a decent enough sense of humor when dealing with people stumbling and bumbling through the doors for whatever reason. The prep video they show you as you're sitting in the main jury room was done in the late 70s or early 80s, and, honestly, they could just ask "Have you seen at least three episodes of the original Law & Order? You have? Good, you're done then." and be done with it.

Remembering that I had no outstanding arrest warrants against me, I parked and went inside. After filling out my paperwork, I was ushered to the next room. An intake clerk looked over my papers and told me to go around the corner to the next room. Once there, I was assigned to a health professional station. I sat down at the station and spoke with the nurse. I explained my fears ... and then out of the blue - it happened! I got shot! I should have known to be more cautious, after seeing a cop in the parking lot! Soon, I had a bandaid over my injection site and the nurse reassured me that I was now fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Yes indeed, I endured the same routine just about a month prior. The health professionals and associated staff are doing a fantastic job, as they all pull together to get the residents of Macomb County vaccinated. The whole operation runs like a well-oiled machine.

It was such the opposite. We came in and the women at the front desk was so nice and gave my daughter a pencil for school. We filled out a short form and we were headed back to the nurses office. He started out by telling me what my daughter needed to have for school and said I had to watch a short video on said vaccines. It was like maybe 2-3 minutes. He then went over all the information, I signed the pad and he made sure all my information was complete and he headed off the printer to get my waiver. Honestly, nothing to be scared or worried about. I knew my facts but I know that sometimes us parents can be very overwhelmed. He was nice, he gave my kiddo stickers on the way out. I think the process took about a half hour. I'd say if that. I would not be worried about coming in again. Such a relief.

I didn't realize how close I was to Mt Clemens and what it had to offer. I've noticed several interesting places to try food wise. It looks like just a great place to walk around and enjoy. I saw bowling nearby and a musuem, so I know there are other things to do than just eat. I can't wait for the weather to get better so we can try walking around a bit. I love experiencinng new areas with rich history and a great atmosphere. The places we have visited are friendly. I will admit the road was a bit confusing at first, but I imagine it gets easier as you visit more. With similar names I have heard before like Main St and Cass, I imagine we will make just as many new memories here, as the other city areas!

Most of the restaurants and bars are open downtown, and all are within easy walking distance from each other. Many just sitting around yoking and joking doing shit. One lady waiting since 11am to 8pm for her daughter to be released, she was on top of pile and went to bottom of pile where her mother is waiting in pain from her surgery that she had last week. Ridiculous. Too long of waits for inmates to be released. Bring a pillow if you're picking up a loved one cuz you gonna be here all day for them to be released .

Mount Clemens Police are probably the laziest police I have ever come in contact with to date. A…read morefew years back, I was riding my bike at night, and there was an inebriated man who stopped on this motorcycle bike to talk to me, became upset after our interaction and proceeded to run his bike right into mine, after I fell off I got up and ran to the side while he kept doing it repeatedly and drove off to a house down the street. I called the Police and when they finally got there, they said there's nothing they can do. I even told them where the house was that he drove to and they still did absolutely nothing. So they left while I was on the side of the road at night with a broken bike. There are a couples more instances, but, it would be much too long to type. I do not feel safe and protected in Mount Clemens because the police do whatever they please, and they are allowed to do so. In conclusion, I am moving out of Mount Clemens as soon as I can.
