Worst chippy ever in Liverpool.
This place used to be fantastic when Tony & Cos and their family used to own it. However they sold up and moved on.
Its now been taken over by a bunch of morons that have no consideration for customers needs.
Firstly, when you order duck and pancakes, I expect real DUCK and pancakes. This place now serves a much cheaper version of duck that is manufactured and processed. It is single slices of PROCESSED DUCK. Not real duck at all, the same as cheap processed sliced ham in a packet that is NOT real ham, its left over offcuts shaped and formed together. This is exactly what the duck is now in Tropicana.
This is false advertising. The menu in the shop should read 'Cheap formed & processed duck, and pancakes'.
Secondly their chips - absolutely awful. Chips should be real chips, little bit of crisp here and there, and some colour and nice texture.
The chips from here are a very light colour yellow, no crisp to it, and exceptionally soggy in the middle.
When I mentioned this recently to a staff member that the chips from here are nothing like they used to be when Tony & Cos had it, the man behind the counter said its the potatoes they buy now as the chips come already sliced up in vacuum packs.
This not good enough.
Thursday 23rd October 2014 was the last straw for me. I went here and ordered Prawn fried rice. I live several streets away from this venue, so by the time it took me 2 minutes to get home, the fried rice should not be luke warm and dried out firm and all clumped together.
This was appalling. I then out of curiosity counted the prawns. In that entire polystyrene box. There was a total of 9 small measly dried out prawns in that dried out fried rice that has obviously been sitting there all day. I put the entire box complete with dried out rice and prawns in the bin. This meal unfit for starving peasants in the 3rd world even.
The price I paid was not cheap, but then again that is the first thing I noticed these new owners did when they took it over, put the prices up and opened of a Sunday all day. They put profit before customer service and the quality of this food is terrible. The ££££ signs matters more than quality here.
The staff need some training on customer service too, as a hi and bye goes a long way, as does recognising your regular customers.
The girl behind the counter the other night was moaning "I'm skint" and playing on her mobile phone and leaving customers waiting.
In summary, this place charges extortionate prices by serving rubbish sub standard food that is labelled incorrectly on the menu, especially were cheap manufactured processed & formed DUCK is concerned. The customer service is equally rubbish and I shall never give my business to this chippy again.
The Tropicana reputation for decent quality food died the day Tony & Cos and their family sold this business.
Those people wishing for REAL Duck and good value for money....try visiting Laus chippy further up County Road or China Garden on Rice Lane, they both serve real duck and do very good food and delivery for FREE unlike Tropicana. read more
