The food menu is considerably smaller than it used to be but there is a note saying that if you can't see what you want, just ask and they will cook it for you. The wine list is as good as it ever was. There is still a good choice for those of us who are veggie - several beancurd dishes to choose from. Portions were generous and flavours were good. On the downside we felt there was a bit too much cornflour in the sauces, making them a bit too claggy and sticky. And the bits of wild rice in with the regular rice was most odd - it looked like mouse droppings! It is great to see Yvonne back running the place - we missed her when she was running the Barrow branch! We will definately be back and are delighted that this restaurant is back again!

While being weaker on the fish and/or chip front (the chips are often a little crispy and lack a proper fluffy middle) this place is far better than most on the Chinese takeaway front (the dragon beneath the sign should probably have given this away). It's not haute but if you like sticky and aromatic dishes with chicken that slides apart or beef with a little chew to it then there's definitely nowhere better in Formby. Unfortunately it doesn't tend to be open very late, which is a shame really - it could do well mopping up the stragglers coming out of nearby Grapes pub at closing time.

What Crispy Cod Formby does very, very well is kebabs and burgers - this might seem odd for somewhere that so prides itself on fish that it puts the name of a fish that it doesn't in fact serve up in backlit plastic, but there it is. Donner or chicken, 'Hawaiian' (served with pineapple ring - exotic) or 'king' (served with an egg - regal) the kebabs and burgers are the reason to get takeaway from here. Just avoid the pizzas, fish and chip shop selling pizzas; it's just a step too far. It's just wrong man. Just wrong.

I also distinctly remember the owner, who always sported a cap and an absolutely excellent moustache (the skill of moustache grooming is a fine art). The chips they do are average and the portions compared to their rivals are pretty small, plus they serve you chips in a little tray which kind of spoils the whole chips-wrapped-up-in-paper thing (it's just not the same when you have a tray supporting them, they should just slip everywhere as you struggle to eat them). They also do the usual Chinese dishes, burgers (which are pretty good, actually), kebabs and pizzas. I generally avoid getting things like kebabs and pizzas in chippies though, I feel that they are best left to proper kebab and pizza shops because when chippies have their fingers in too many pies, they usually end up doing everything a bit crap rather than excelling at a few things. I'm quite a fan of the fish tank in there though; thankfully, they don't put its contents in the deep fat fryer (far too small).

Ever - Char Sui Roast Pork; again, amazing - Soft noodles; with bean sprouts and onion - 2 Egg Fried Rice or 1 Chicken/other meat Fried Rice; Tasty, non-greasy - Prawn Crackers - and one other main dish that we choose at random The family/staff who work here are friendly and super organised; when you arrive for collection (they don't deliver) the orders are spread in a fan over a silver tray - they know exactly which docket to choose from the delicately arranged pile, they pop into the kitchen and out with a bag of take-out-container filled joy. You can also opt to eat in. The restaurant is fairly small but the service is exceptional and the food is wonderful regardless of where you eat it. Car parking can be a little tricky at busy times. It's just off the main road with the car spaces in front. It's tight squeeze to manoeuvre if you're wedged in nearest the house. Also, watch out for the sneaky traffic light camera as you approach. This is a popular place on a weekend so if you're eating in it's probably a good idea to book a table, if you can't get booked in then just order a takeaway. The only downside is they don't do delivery as they are very busy so you have to get it yourself.
