I visited this salon recently and left feeling defeated and depressed. I'm a sahm who treats herself yearly to a blonde balayage. Usually, with other stylists at other salons, I've left feeling excited and happy after. This visit with Nichole was a completely different story. I thought I could trust her because of her listed years of experience. I booked with her because she more affordable than my regular but more experienced. Too good to be true .. it was. Unfortunately. Once in the chair, she suggested dyeing my natural hair, too. And, doing the baylage or highlights. Not just the baylage and highlights she and I had talked about. To get my hair lighter and blonder. I thought that was odd but thought I could trust her professional opinion. I should have trusted my gut. When my hair was dried the first time I looked like carrot top. Bright orange. And, what's worse is I had legitimate patches on either side of my hait that were completely miscolored and not the same. She could tell I was panicking. She said it'd be fine. She kept bleaching and toning for another hour after and while it helped some, I still had orange. Just not as bright as before. She kept saying I'd learn to like it. She told me I just had to get used to it. Told me it was just like my inspo pics, too. I felt I was being gaslighted. But, we'd been at the salon all day. 10am - 2:30pm and a bit beyond. To add insult to injury, I was charged for two extra bowls of bleach that she had used on my hair only because of her mess up. Originally, I was told $175 for what i wanted. Then, when i got there, she discussed changing plans to help me get the look I wanted. Bringing my total to $200. I agreed. Then, was surprised when she said I owed her more due to using more bleach bowls... the ones to help her mistake. Making my total $220. I paid her. And tipped her. I didn't know what else to do. I regret having ever visted this salon. She did offer to "correct it" for free when I was still unhappy with my hair the next day. But , she only offered a root tap of my dark natural color. Taking me further away from my desired results. She refused to refund me even partially, too. So, I have no money currently to fix the mess she left me in. I absolutely dislike my hair in it's current state and feel so taken advantage of. I do NOT recommend Nichole or Tropical waves salon at all. It's not worth potentially saving a bit of money or getting quicker appointments. read more

Went here for the first time last week. Had an appointment with Tatiana and she was great. I've been looking for someone that could help me find the right cut for my curly hair. She was attentive, and rather than just attempting what I asked right off the bat, she gave her professional opinion. She told me why what I was asking for wouldn't work for my hair, but also made sure I was still happy and comfortable with what she wanted to do. It's the best cut I've had in years. read more

We were taken advantage of at this salon. We had an appointment for a child's haircut and discussed our wants with Eva before starting. She then asked me to leave my daughter and wait outside because of Covid restrictions. She said the cut would take 30 minutes and I ended up waiting an hour. When I was allowed back in, she had taken the liberty to thin out my daughter's hair, a process we did not agree on and was not cleared by me. She also spent time styling her hair which was a service I had not asked for or wanted. She then charged me the adult price after making choices without my or my daughter's approval. The styling hid a truly disappointing cut that revealed itself the following day. Not to mention she drastically changed the look of my child's hair by choosing to thin it out, a process we would have NEVER approved had she asked. She waited for me to be forced out of the building and then took that opportunity to double the price of her "services" while I was unable to intervene. Super shady and untrustworthy! I don't know if everyone at this salon conducts themselves in this manner or just Eva but we will definitely not be back. read more

I've been going to Tropical Waves Salon since it opened several years ago. Most of the time I will just have Tatiana give me a "buzz cut" that befits an old fellow like me. Being a senior gentleman in my late 70s, she has given me a discount from time to time and that is nice. The salon is always welcoming and clean, even after a busy morning. Very friendly and efficient staff. I would strongly suggest that whether you are young, old, male or female - give Tatiana and her staff a try. I really do not believe you can get a better hair cut at any price in Salem. read more

I just got the mani- pedi. This was probably the worst I have ever had. I feel totally ripped. Glad it was a Group on deal. No offense to the girl that was doing it, she was very nice but she barely even clipped my toe nails and did not clean them. I had to ask her to clip one of my toe nails and she still barely clipped it and just filed on it. Weird. Will probably not even go back for a hair cut now. read more
