The last few times I've been here have been nothing like when I initially started coming when they first opened. Service is a hit or miss some of the girls are very friendly others are just there to check you in. One of the employees was unable to tell me the difference between the open sun and high pressure beds. Room 8 door does not lock properly. Room 3 tanning bed facial bulb is out. I just got a 30 day package deal that was 50% for tanning and I am pleased with the price so I'll update my review at the end of this experience with service from the staff and the quality of beds,rooms, and overall salon. read more

I have been going to this location for a little over 2 years and after buying my tan I was like hold up $30 for a single session. I remember 9 months ago it was $9 per session which is understandable. So I asked the person at the front desk and she proceeded to tell me we are only doing memberships now so if you don't want to pay $30 per tan you can pay the monthly membership for $59 per month. Which I'm sorry if you are running a business like this you don't say pay this or that price, which is not an ethical decision if you are not going everyday. read more

So!!! I am not a tan person by any means, HINTS why I decided to stop by tropical tan today. My friend at work always has such a gorgeous tan! So I asked her, how are you so f n tan. She replied with tropical tan! Then I saw myself gross and freakishly pale and I was done! Which brought me in and not really knowing anything about what level, which lotion or anything. Ashley was there and saved my day! She was very knowledgeable and patient with my questions and concerns! She had recommended three different lotions from which I picked out a really floral scented one that I loved. She also recommended a Bronze no burn bed which the statement was true. I didn't burn which I was super worried about! Ashley also made sure I had the eye protection before I went in there. While I waited for the bed she was also sweet enough to give me a tour explaining the different beds and even the red light therapy one ( I hope I got it right ) which I had to google but that dang bed I am excited to try! Ashely was so sweet, non judgmental and very knowledgeable with tanning! The bed she recommended was also amazing! All the fans in that thing sheeeesh I didn't sweat at all! My best friend and I decided to get spray tans before her bridal shower this past weekend and boy am I happy we chose here for our first experience. We called a few days prior and Adriana was super helpful with all the questions that we had. We even called back to ask more questions and she didn't seem bothered or annoyed which we really appreciated. She even assured us that even though she wouldn't be there the day of our tanning, that we would be in good hands. Tatum was who helped us on Saturday and she was great!! She walked us thru the whole process and even made suggestions that were super helpful for us not knowing a thing. Place is clean and if you need a quick tan can usually get in! The girls I have met that work here seem nice and not pushy with sales. I just say buyer beware because they do have tricky techniques that deceive the buyer. I purchased a Dec 1st deal and I did bc there was no time limit requirement...I come in to use the deal and it has expired because it expired within 2 wks. When I purchased them on the phone the girl did not advise they expired in 2 wks and there was no disclosure on their social media (as there normally is)! The "manager" says they do disclose on their SM...I purposely bought this one bc there was no expiration date! When I was in the store the person in front of me had SAME issue. I don't do a contract with this place for these dirty practices! read more

First time here. Customer service leaves something to be desired. Purchased goggles, they took the money, didn't hand me the goggles, started to help the next customer in line and when I asked for the goggles was told "yeah in a sec". Then she grabbed a pair of goggles and handed them to me without saying a word. Didn't show me to my tanning room or provide any instructions for the bed. Not impressed. read more

I've heard so many good things about this place and now after trying it out, it exceeded my expectations! The girls who work here are all so sweet and nice compared to some other tanning places. The beds are such great quality and they always seem to have really good specials! This was always my favorite tanning salon, but they just got rid of the smaller stand-up and as a result eliminated both the "5 for $20" Wednesdays and "$5 Tans" Sundays for anything but the beds! Oddly enough, when I called to verify, the girl specifically said the stand-ups were still covered in the deal. But when I showed up to purchase, a different girl said they weren't. The beds here are AMAZING! I love all the specials they offer for each day of the week and the variety of what you're able to do here to accomplish your ideal tan. They're open super early and also stay open late so you're able to come before or after work. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable about all the random questions I've asked. I would absolutely LOVE to rate this salon more than 5 stars! I was interested in this salon, after seeing how many people loved going there (via Facebook). I currently reside in Chicago now, but typically spend 3-4 days a week out in the Lake County area, and when ever I'm in town, I have to hit this salon! For the first time, I went to the salon with a friend of mine, and was greeted by the owner, Joze. He was extremely informative and very friendly. He proceeded to not only tell us about the current promotions, but actually walked me into the tanning room, and showed me how each panel worked on the tanning bed. If he wouldn't have done this, I would've been extremely confused because these beds are HIGH TECH! As I looked around the spacious room, I was very pleased to see the room stocked with all of the essentials; deodorant, hair ties (which are very important), after tanning spray, candy, and much more! While enjoying my tan, I loved how there was a timer in front of me the whole time, to actually see when my session would end. When I looked in the mirror; I was beyond thrilled! I was super tan after ONE session! These beds were clean, high tech, and very comfortable to lay down in (or stand up, as I have tried both). Okay, now the pricing.. YOU SERIOUSLY CAN NOT BEAT THE DEALS THEY HAVE GOING ON! They have $8 tans (Levels 1-4) on Fridays, and there is no limit to the amount you can buy. *Pinch me now, I'm in tanning heaven! :) Not only is this place affordable, but the staff is always very welcoming and knowledgable about their products. I have been tanning here for years and have never had a problem until recently. The Grayslake location has now changed their hours to 9 pm when it has always been 11 pm but that's not the end of the world. I pay for a tanning package every month (about $70/mo) and I count on being able to use the spray tans that come with the package. I just tried to get a spray tan at 7:55pm and the girl told me that I was too late and she had already cleaned the booth. I've come in 30 mins before close in the past for a spray tan and have never had a problem and now all of a sudden an hour before close is too late?!? Outrageous. I am not happy and I will be canceling my membership with Tropical Tan Grayslake. They are loosing a loyal and long time customer!!! read more

I did A LOT of research before picking a tanning salon to go to, and I was super excited based on the fantastic reviews of this place and the low price. I came in and got a mystic tan. Looking up mystic tan experiences online, I was under the impression you could pick from a variety of shades and scents for your tan (it even says so on the mystic tan website) but this was just general bronzer (maybe it was an earlier model or something). Which was a little disappointing, but I was excited anyway. Unfortunately the spray was blotchy and you had to wipe it afterwards, there wasn't a huge skin tone difference between when I started and when I finished either. It worked I guess... But it wasn't worth 15 dollars. I might come again and try the custom spray tan the next time I want some color in my skin, which has gotten positive reviews from others. It's a nice place with nice staff and I feel bad for being the first non-perfect review here. Wouldn't recommend the mystic tan, though. I could've just bought a tan spray bottle from Walmart for half the cost and the results would've been as good or better. read more

HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Just left here, for good. I've been going here for years, never blown away with even decent customer service (except the 1 time the owner was here). They are trying to charge me another $25 to enroll again for a monthly tanning package. I've worked in customer service for years. This is me trying to resolve this issue with the young girl named Maria working alone there (with 1 month experience). She had to TEXT the owner asking what to do. Then Maria said I still would have to pay the $25. I asked if there is a manager I can call, or do you have a business card? Maria "No. You can message him on Facebook." ....what in the world?!?! 1. You have to text your boss a question 2. For any customers to contact someone for some customer service, you have to message him on Facebook. So, keep in mind...Maria text her boss, then helped 5 people while I had to sit and wait for a text back...To be told there isn't anything she can do and I have to go message for help on Facebook. I have been coming here for over ten years and I can't rave enough of how clean the facility is and how knowledgeable the ladies are!

The place is clean and most of the staff is friendly. BUT if you are like me, and can not give finger prints to non-governmental agencies, this is not the place for you. They will outright refuse your business and your money, if you do not register your finger print with them. Even if you show them your Drivers License, they will not accept it as a form of ID. Customer Service failure. Before you think I am being oversensitive. I work for a security company that has a even stricter policy about finger printing (biometrics), and I would risk losing my job over tanning. I'm sure most do not have a problem with this practice, although maybe they should. The same computers that now have your finger print, also are used to surf the web. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *My edit after exchanges with owner and a different employee -- I may not have had the best experience today, but after messaging through yelp with the owner and a call back to the location, they will allow the use of ID if it is noted in your account. Obviously, I wish I could have just tanned earlier when I was there, but they have addressed the situation.
