The food here is good. The smoothies are good (though let's be clear: just because it's blended doesn't necessarily mean that it's good for you. A lot of what they are serving is just a milkshake under the guise of health food), and as long as you're smart about it, you can grab a decent healthy lunch from this place. The only real problem is that it's usually understaffed and it can be slow at times. It also tends to be a hangout for Daniel Island teens and tweens, which, well, I didn't like teenagers when I was an actual teenager. So I try to limit my exposure to Tropical Smoothie Cafe as well. The way I mitigate Tropical Smoothie Cafe's flaws is via the app. They have excellent online ordering which makes it so that the maximum amount of time I have to spend inside the store is around 30 seconds as long as I give them about 5-10 minutes to prepare my smoothie and/or food. But I'd rather spend the afternoon in the airport security like at Hartsfield Jackson than spend that 5-10 minutes inside Tropical Smoothie Cafe feeling myself get older and grumpier as the tik Tok generation does what it does. It's a good thing I do not own any lawns near Tropical Smoothie Cafe otherwise I would constantly be telling these hooligans to get off of it. What with their dancing and shenanigans. No sirree, not for me! Thankfully, I can order on the app, hop on my horse, and plod back to my small cabin and enjoy my smoothie and accompanying prunes, maybe watch a few episodes of Murder-She-Wrote and wait until Wheel of Fortune comes on. read more

Now for the food.. they have a bunch of vegan & vegetarian options and even plant-based chicken substitutes available! I ordered the Hummus Veggie bowl supposed to come with "hummus, smashed avocado, pepper jack cheese, romaine, kale & spinach blend, rice, black beans, pickled red onions, tomatoes & lite ranch" of course I wanted it vegan and asked for no cheese or ranch and then added plant-based chicken. I was disappointed when I opened it and searched for my hummus and guacamole... and there was none. So when I brought it back up to the counter they said it was on the bottom and then they added "more" hummus and avocado to the top. Even though I flipped the salad upside down and there was no avocado and hummus in it to begin with.... but whatever. Also I guess they no longer serve it with those lettuce options and it's served with just Romaine lettuce? Great find here! Yes it's primarily smothies, but they have a menu full of flatbreads, wraps, sandwiches and salads. I decided on the Rustic Turkey & Apple Club sandwich. It was made with turkey, cheddar, bacon, Dijon honey mustard, and house made kale & apple slaw on seedilicious bread. Boy was it good, tasty and flavorful. I also loved the toasted seedilicious bread. You can choose chips, a cookie, or kale & apple slaw as a side. The slaw, delicious; but such a small serving. I ordered the blueberry bliss smoothie to go, and it was huge at 24oz. Overall a nice find for lunch options, the cafe was busy the entire time with customers getting smoothies. Seating includes 2 small tables, a large community bar table, and a wooden bar wrapping around the prep area. It's on my list for quick, casual sandwich or more. read more

I read about Tropical Smoothie Cafe on a blog recently and was surprised to learn that there was one on nearby Daniel Island. How did I not already know about this place?! I love the bright, beachy feel of the cafe. The staff was really friendly and the smoothie menu is extensive. I also love that they serve their entire food menu all day, as I arrived starving at 10:30 in the morning. I chose the Cranberry Pecan Chicken Salad sandwich a fantastic mix of grilled chicken, cranberries, apple, grapes, pecans and spinach. It comes with your choice of various sides so I, of course, opted for the chocolate chip cookie. For the smoothie, I went with the Sunrise Sunset. I've given this place so many tries and they just keep failing today was the straw that broke the camel's back. 20 minutes for a smoothie that I had to ask them to clean all the smoothie flowing down the cup and then when it was returned to me was on 3/4 full! I visited here last week. We ordered 2 Peanut Butter Cup smoothies and asked for them to be split which we really appreciated. We also got a quesadilla. The quesadilla came out in no time, no issue. It seems the staff forgot about our smoothies however. There were 6 staff members at one point and only 5 of us there. As we waiting my husband even got up to assist the staff who was bringing things in the store from a car/truck and out of the 3 who he held the door open, no one said thank you. At this point we went back up to the counter as my nephew was late for his tennis practice we asked again if they could check on our order. After another 3 or 4 min we could hear that the order was made but just sitting on the counter. I get we may have come in at a off time but customer service is key and we felt invisible. Wow! I was so impressed with this Uber eats pick of the day!! I ordered the Turkey Bacon Ranch on ciabatta it was big enough to slit with my 6 year old who claimed she wasn't hungry when making the order. I got both of us a smoothie, they were also very large portions, and SO fresh!! She had the Paradise Point and I had the Açaí Berry Boost. Both were so yummy! Perfect lunch ordered online and picked up. This is a very easy process and they were quick. We ordered a Cuban, Buffalo Chicken Wrap and Hummus Veggie Wrap. All came with a side of chips. Just went over to Tropical Smoothie to pick up a Baja Chicken Wrap. I was very excited as I don't get to eat there a lot and the wraps are good. I took the time to drive over there, then spent 10 minutes trying to find a place to park on Daniel Island. When I finally got inside, I was notified that they won't be serving food, only smoothies, until further notice as they were too busy. Don't waste your time getting lunch around lunch time here. Smoothies taste amazing! Last time I visited I tried the peanut butter cup smoothie and it was delicious, and this time I had the sunrise sunset which was also really good. I am only giving 3 stars because although the product is good, the service is horrible. From the time I walked in to the time I had a smoothie in hand, it took 25 minutes. Granted , I did go in at noon, but the wait times were awful. Several people ahead of me in line walked out without even ordering, which is good because it would have taken longer if they had stayed. This place is a real asset to our island town. From a quick morning breakfast of a smoothie to a healthy after school snack on the way to music lessons,this little spot is often just what I need. We order all our smoothies without sugar and that makes them a lot healthier yet still delicious. Island Green Detox, Healthnut with pea protein , and Chia Oatmeal Peanut Butter are favs. The wraps and tacos are also good. This TSC is NOT like the ones back home! Moved here in 2008 and have been missing my TSC fix like crazy! Just happened to discover that Daniel Island has one. I was so excited we drove all the way from Knightsville just to have lunch there. Talk about disappointment. Their smoothie menu is half the size of the TSC's I'm used to in RVA and they didn't have my favorite wrap on the menu (or smoothie). I ended up asking for a special order wrap (which they forgot my bacon on). That being said.. If you go there without expecting the menu you're used to elsewhere then I'm sure you might think it's great. Very crowded though. read more
