We…read moreonly had one day in Fort Collins, Colorado (USA) and Majestic Mountains Scenic Rides was just the ticket to maximize our time there. Yorke picked us up at our hotel for an 8-hour tour. He drives a clean, comfortable passenger van stocked with water, snacks, hand-sanitizer, tissues, and a picnic lunch. I don't know much about commercial vehicles, but this is one where you can stand up -- which helped our middle aged bodies navigate in and out. Yorke is an educated historian and has an amazing knowledge of the area, including anecdotes about founding families, homesteaders, and how the landscape has changed/stayed the same since the Ute tribes dominated the area. He has memorized tons of fun facts and is obviously doing what he loves every single day. We told Yorke we really hoped to see a moose. Although wildlife does not give command performances, he knew exactly where to look and persisted until we saw a huge bull moose grazing not far from the road. Beautiful! Halfway through the 8-hour tour, we stopped at a Visitors Center where we enjoyed an outdoor picnic Yorke prepared with ingredients from his own garden. Fresh tomatoes and beets along with a yummy salad, chips, and a selection of ingredients to make our own sandwich on bread or large-leaf lettuce. (Worth Noting: The Visitor's Center had the only flush toilets of the day, so ... if you're not a fan of outhouses or doing your business outdoors, you'll want to regulate your fluid intake accordingly). At $90 per person for an 8-hour experience, you are certainly not guaranteed a private tour; we lucked out! But, we would have paid more for the privilege had we known how great it was to have the time and Yorke's expertise all to ourselves. We got out when we wanted to, explored, and took pictures to our heart's content. Yorke mentioned that some of his customers are elderly folks who just want to get up in the mountains for a half- or full-day and need a driver as well as someone to assist them in and out of the vehicle. He also takes small tour groups, and has even contracted with a few customers to do overnight camping trips where he drives, brings the food, sets up the tents, and basically does all the work for you so you can enjoy the mountains at any age or fitness level. His personality seems well-suited to go-with-the-flow for whoever he may have on his tour. If you want personalized service from a smart, kind, outdoorsy "former hippie" (his words), then Yorke at Majestic Mountains Scenic Rides is your guy.

Yorke went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable: clean and spacious vehicle, snacks and drinks, adjusting the temperature in the car, photo opportunities and bathroom stops. But the line for the beer actually moved quickly. They didn't seem to do flights, not sure though, but they did let you try however many beers you wanted. I ended up getting an Italian spritz inspired beer that I shared with my friends and we all loved it. We also got food from some of the food trucks which was tasty and didn't take too long. I stumbled upon it a few months back while looking for a place to have breakfast with my daughter (ended up at Silver Grill Cafe). After breakfast, we decided to wander around a bit and check out the area. The square is beautiful! In the middle, you'll find a stage that is home to a lot of live music in the evenings, and a fountain/splash pad for the kids (or adults and some dogs I've seen), to run and splash around. They have a piano for the public to play, a fountain to make wishes in, and some interesting local art. There is plenty of seating to sit and watch the kid's play or have a small bite to eat. The fountain/stage are surrounded by a large number of local boutique shops and delicious restaurants. A bonus, a Ben & Jerry's ice cream shop! It is a great area to spend a warm day. At Christmas, all of downtown and old town are lit up with thousands of lights in the trees, on the buildings, etc. It is absolutely stunning! Back to my earlier comment that it truly feels like a Hallmark Christmas movie. They set up Santa's workshop in the middle of the square for kiddo's to meet him, sit on his lap, and take photos. He was such a kind man and was wonderful with the kids. Right next to this, is a skating rink. This unfortunately was disappointing. It's not ice, it's some plastic stuff that is physically impossible to actually skate on. Honestly it felt like a lawsuit waiting to happen with how easy it was to fall. It was uncomfortable and not very fun, we only went two laps and gave up. It was free, so at least we didn't waste any money. It's great for "looks," but don't recommend it. Overall, this is truly one of my favorite places in Fort Collins and I love spending my days here with my daughter.

This year we went down at 10am to beat the crowds and all the kayaks were rented. By 10:30 we were on the water but it can be busy. People are nice taking your money. 3hrs in a single kayak costs around $75 plus tax. Not cheap but worth it. They offer life jackets and surly service on the dock. Located right off the beach on the east end of town and next to the marina coffee shop. Easy access and not much parking at the marina. Use the public lots.

BUYERS BEWARE! TOTAL SCAM! My husband and I had never…read morebeen on a motorboat much less driven one ourselves. A young man who was very nice helped us get on, he explained that we should stay 150 yards away from the shore to avoid any damage to the boat/propeller. We did exactly that, because it was literally our first time and we were very afraid of causing any damage. Upon return to the dock, a young employee was very matter of fact with a very stern expression and demeanor, telling us that we damaged the propeller. He did ask us if we recall hitting anything, and we did not... He then began to explain that we obviously did because the propeller was damaged and we were gonna have to pay for it. He then started throwing out numbers for the cost of the replacement. We were very adamant that we did not hit anything or go towards the shore as instructed. We asked for a manager, and Kevin Cox, the very confrontational manager, came walking out, holding the propeller up to my face, telling my husband and I that this is damage that we caused! He then began telling us that we are gonna pay for it, end of story! When I gave a rebuttal, telling him that I felt like this was a scam, he began to tell me that he knows for a fact that we drove near the shore! He began to make a scene and try to shame us in front of other customers... And when we responded, telling him he was full of it... He then called the police and told the police that we were causing a "verbal disturbance". We feel that he knew that the police could not force us to pay for the part so that was his cause for making an accusation of "verbal disturbance "! At that point, my husband said "let's go! "... Kevin Cox replied, "oh you're gonna leave, that means I have to go with you!"We walked about 3/4 of a mile and he followed the entire way. At that point, we sat down on a park bench... And he just stood there. We finally just got up and told him to quit following us and he stayed behind as we took off. We circled back around and to get our vehicle which was parked on their property... And saw a police officer there. We flagged the officer down, to speak with him about the matter. The officer was very courteous and friendly, and remained neutral. He did say that it was a possibility that we did cause the damage and didn't feel it, or know it and that Kevin Cox was probably going to charge our credit card for the cost of the propeller...he also stated that if we dispute the charges, he could potentially take us to Small Claims Court! It was a good thing I video recorded Fred's demeanor and him following us because I was able to show the police officer who let us walk because we did nothing wrong. Horrible customer service, a big time scam, by the way, the propellers are plastic... Which I believe is why they are easily damaged... But Kevin Cox told us that we were lucky it was plastic because if it was metal, it would cost double the amount!! ‍
