My initial rating for this store would have been a five but after my experience today, I will never…read moreset foot in that store again. I was visiting Victoria with my family on the weekend (for my birthday, no less). While in Legends, I found a book I was interested in. There was however, no price on the book. I took it to the counter and asked the gentleman (I'm assuming the owner) the price. He told me it was $25.19. Since I was on a trip with my family I figured I had better be fiscally responsible seeing as how I was already purchasing other books and we had more places to visit (not to mention I had my daughter with me and thought it would be a good example to set). I had a short but friendly conversation with the owner about my town and I left thinking that it was such a great experience. As we drove further up Island, I began to regret my decision. When we arrived back home, I called a friend of mine in Victoria and asked if she'd be willing to pick the book up for me. She was more than happy to oblige. She was there first thing this morning and picked up the book explaining it was for me, the guy who was visiting from out of town. He charged her $51.00, saying that he had given me the American price but I had turned it down. First of all, not once did he mention to me that it was the American price, nor that he was giving me a deal that would expire if I declined purchase. Had that been the case, I would have snapped it up, thinking I would be saving some money if I were to find it elsewhere. Secondly, since when is the Canadian price 100% more than the American price?! I've looked it up online. He obviously took advantage of the situation (and my friend) and made himself a nice profit. Basically, he punished me for not buying it right away. Great customer service. It's a shame because I thought it was a great little shop with a good selection. I would have made it my first stop on my next visit to Victoria but that's not going to happen. I thought the owner was a nice guy but it turns out he's just a greedy SOB. I guess the lesson for my daughter is, don't trust anybody, even if they seem affable. The worst part of this situation is that it's going to be very difficult for me to enjoy the book as this experience will stick with me every time I see it. So happy birthday to me and a big F**K YOU to Legends.

This comic book shop is the Anti-Thesis of every Gatekeeper nerd establishment I've ever walked…read moreinto, as a girl who has had a passion for comic books my whole life, mostly finding community in the diversity of the online webcomic spheres, because for years, when venturing into brick and mortar comic book land, I would run into what could charitably be called Big Bang Theory-esque atmosphere. The "fake geek girl" investigators, the "I dont know why all of a sudden they're trying to force diversity down our throats" complainers, the "you've probably never heard of it" condescenders. A lifelong lover of comics, and this shop was the very first comic place I ever felt comfortable. Gareth is a gem of the community who highlights and makes space for marginalized fans and creators alike, and it gives me great joy to support this business, it's the only place I buy comics.

Yes, the guys running the store WERE great…read more Then the big corporate beast that is Games Workshop decided to fire them all, except one. Oh, and just coincidentally the store is open just below the number of hours required to pay the poor guy a full time salary with benefits. He seems to do his best, but I'm done with GW. GW, slashing and burning its way to financial health.

Since the new manager took over, things have gotten better in the shop. To start with, it seems…read moremuch more organized than before. The shop is small, even by GW standards. It has two gaming tables. The manager is friendly and helpful, and seems to know most of his customers by name. He is enthusiastic about the hobby, but not to the point of being "pushy". He is open to simply talking about the game, and helps out people painting. He seems to be the only employee working there. This means that the shop is only open 5 days a week, and it has to close for half an hour in the middle of the day so that the manager can have his lunch break. I attribute this to the fact that Victoria is a small market for GW, and this store is probably marginal at best. There are other businesses downtown that are only open 5 or 6 days a week, but if you come from a place where everything is open 7 days a week, you might be surprised. Having said that, it isn't that big of a deal to schedule your visits for one of the days the shop is open. Despite it's small size, I have never visited it where there weren't at least 3 or 4 other people in there shopping/gaming/painting/whatever. Overall, this is a great GW being run by a great guy.

Best for: discounts on new cookbooks…read more Huge space, lots of books and yet... their selection seems small. I can't usually find what I'm looking for, new or used. Shelves are a bit too close together for browsing. More signs indicating genre and letter of alphabet would be nice. As for browsing.. I wish they had displays and handwritten reviews, tables highlighting new releases by genres, etc. Their new releases shelves are shockingly small and oddly placed upstairs. What a great space! It just needs help with the browsing experience.

Forget Munro's Book on Government St., this is where it's at. Honestly the outside is not…read moreremarkable at all, as the mini strip mall and immediate surroundings are deceiving. The inside is way different being bright, spacious and airy...and best of all 2 floors with an elevator and escalator. While there is a lot to look at as a casual browser, the kids/toddler book section was pretty impressive. There was a large variety and some quality items were even on clearance markdowns which I could never recall seeing at any bookstore in my lifetime. The currency conversion works out in with U.S. dollars too. Overall I think it's worth a tourist stop if visiting in town.

Russell Books - This was a relatively "clean" section... The fiction section was a glorious mess with stacks and stacks of books in front of the shelves!
