Turns out there are three comic shops on the same block that have all been around since the 90's. Today I learned about Batman Red Death. Comic book 52 seems to revolve around a multi universe. If you're interested in anything toy centric, this place is completely boss! I found a Funko Pop that I'd been wanting, normally only found in 3-pack, all by his lonesome. The Regional Assembly of Text is an adorable shop with the perfect location for browsing and growing your collection for traditional correspondence. I stop into the shop every time I'm in Victoria, and I'm always surprised by what they have to offer. I love the unique cards and notepads they create. Legends was the third comic book store we hit in Victoria, the first two were ok but the service and selection at legends was vastly superior. My older son found some amazing old westerns (his fav) and the price was just right, $2-$3 each. We walked away with a fresh stack of new books and both my boys received a little gift on the way out the door. Made their day and their whole trip! 10/10, would recommend and we will be stopping in here anytime we come to Victoria to grab some more awesome books at an awesome price!

I was visiting Victoria with my family on the weekend (for my birthday, no less). While in Legends, I found a book I was interested in. There was however, no price on the book. I took it to the counter and asked the gentleman (I'm assuming the owner) the price. He told me it was $25.19. Since I was on a trip with my family I figured I had better be fiscally responsible seeing as how I was already purchasing other books and we had more places to visit (not to mention I had my daughter with me and thought it would be a good example to set). I had a short but friendly conversation with the owner about my town and I left thinking that it was such a great experience. As we drove further up Island, I began to regret my decision. When we arrived back home, I called a friend of mine in Victoria and asked if she'd be willing to pick the book up for me. She was more than happy to oblige. She was there first thing this morning and picked up the book explaining it was for me, the guy who was visiting from out of town. He charged her $51.00, saying that he had given me the American price but I had turned it down. First of all, not once did he mention to me that it was the American price, nor that he was giving me a deal that would expire if I declined purchase. Had that been the case, I would have snapped it up, thinking I would be saving some money if I were to find it elsewhere. Secondly, since when is the Canadian price 100% more than the American price?! I've looked it up online. He obviously took advantage of the situation (and my friend) and made himself a nice profit. Basically, he punished me for not buying it right away. Great customer service. It's a shame because I thought it was a great little shop with a good selection. I would have made it my first stop on my next visit to Victoria but that's not going to happen. I thought the owner was a nice guy but it turns out he's just a greedy SOB. I guess the lesson for my daughter is, don't trust anybody, even if they seem affable. The worst part of this situation is that it's going to be very difficult for me to enjoy the book as this experience will stick with me every time I see it. So happy birthday to me and a big F**K YOU to Legends.

The selection of gift ideas and greeting cards and jewelry and kitchen gadgets and house accessories is bloody amazing. My friend who lives in Victoria visits this store regularly and when I visit, we come here and literally, we could spend hours here. There's so many unique and curated items, stuff I've not seen elsewhere, and the staff are super nice to boot. I personally love stationery stores, and I can attest, this store has a vast, vast selection of greeting cards - some traditional but many witty and/or twisted (which I appreciate!). There are fancy soaps and lotions, and gourmet chocolates, and jewelry made by local artisans, ands much more. I spent a ton of money on cards here (note: it's always a good sign when you hear people laughing aloud in the card aisles!), and I also got a few chocolate and fruit logs that were packaged to look exactly like salami (I thought these would be awesome on a dessert "charcuterie" board, and as a gift to a foodie friend too). I found colorful silicone twist ties and baggie clips, and some unique gifts for my kids (one who is a falconer and a "birder", the other who's into jewelry) and for some gourmand friends, too. Seriously, you'd be hard-pressed not to find something for everyone on your Christmas list, or as a hostess or birthday gift here. Oh, and their doormats are great, too.
