When a lot of people think of private Catholic schools, they think of rich white preppy kids and extremely conservative environments. Sure, there are kind who are well-off and sure there are some preppy kids, but when I was there it was a mix of socioeconomic and culturally/racially diverse backgrounds. The school was also very progressive - we had GLBT club and had people of a variety or religious backgrounds who were all welcomed. My favorite course was Brother David's World Religions course. It helped to shape who I am today more than any other course I have taken - including my college courses. I am very proud to be an Islander and only hope to be able to give this experience to my children as well!

Over the span of the past 11+ years we've attended St. Augustine and Holy Trinity Parish through…read moremultiple Priest and Vicar assignments. We've found the parish overall to be fantastic in that we never go to mass wondering if we're going to have some off the wall Homily that doesn't resemble the teachings of the Catholic Church the same goes for sending our eldest to Religious Education. Our experience with the sacraments (Marriage, Baptisms, First Eucharist) is that they are also just as strict about giving due reverence there as well. They also have had Tridentine Mass and Communion Rails before they were cool again. If you want a more "touchy feely" Catholic experience, there's always several churches up the road in Oakdale, Woodbury, and Stillwater. If you're looking for more of a traditional Catholic parish to strengthen your connection with God and understanding of the Catholic faith, Holy Trinity and St. Augustine are it.
