Great spot for kids haircuts. They do a good job cutting hair quickly and efficiently for little kids and making them feel great. They offer plenty of toys, a fish tank, and lollipops for the kiddos before and after their appointments. My biggest gripe is that you have to an appointment and the times are right in the middle of the day. I get it's a small business and I am sure finding dependable hairstylists to cut children's hair is tough out there but it would be nice to have earlier/later appointments or Saturday appointments. The hairstylist were very knowledgeable and give great advice and friendly. read more

Really great place, really great people. We are new to Cumberland and found this place while shopping at the consignment store across the lot. Great atmosphere for the kids, friendly staff and you can tell they do everything they can to help with the toddler tantrums lol... even do a good job with the "karens" of the community We'll be back! read more

We gave this place another shot but we definitely won't be back. I'll start by saying the staff members are kind and gentle with the kids. Place appears clean. We took both kids the first time and my son received a decent hair cut. My daughter, who was 18 months, needed a small trim of the hair above her eyes and what was maybe 3 snips and all of 2 minutes cost the full price!!! $20 for 3 snips and her taking the chair for no more than 2 minutes. We came back, with just my son, and though i questioned the stylist twice about what was looking like a bowl cut, she assured me she would clean it up. She continued with her work and styled his hair, which no longer appeared a bowl shaped as it was parred to one side. Now the issue was my son first asked to keep it long but after further discussion asked to trim shorter. I asked her to clean up the back, his sideburns and to cut the sides short, leaving enough hair on top to spike like a "mow-hawk". What we got was a bowl haircut with bushy sides that flare out like wings. For $20 I won't be back. The only reason i didn't notice at the shop was the water that was used to spray down his hair and bc she had combed his hair to one side. Waste of money!!! read more

I am very happy with this salon. The staff was very friendly, helpful and welcomed us when we came in. They were able to get us started right away. But if we would have needed to wait, I was pleased to see they had a large waiting area with chairs and a play train table for the kids to busy themselves with. The stylist showed us over to a station and helped calm down my apprehensive 2 year old by speaking gently and nicely to him. They also had organic lollipops to help him stay still. Once my son was seated, she showed him the features of the cute firetruck chair he had chosen to sit in. She took the time to ask what haircut I was looking for and what she would need to do to achieve it. When she took out the clippers, I was happy to see that she explained to my toddler what was about to happen and let him hear and touch the clippers before she took them to his hair. She worked quickly and would keep speaking to him gently and telling him he was doing great throughout the haircut. She did a great job and we walked out with exactly what I was looking for. I am glad that I ignored the one bad review this place has on yelp because I couldn't be more happy with this salon. I will definitely be going back. read more

We have been going to see Nicole for haircuts since my son was under two. When we first started going, my son was really scared of getting his haircut. Nicole was amazing and patient with him. She utilized multiple calming techniques to help make the process go as smoothly as possible. My son is now 9 and Nicole is a household name in our house. We highly recommend her and wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

I tried...I really did. I went several times with my two kids. My daughter asked for a bob that went up to her chin. She ended up with one that was up higher than her ear lobes. My son just wanted a basic cut. His was clearly crooked in the front and uneven throughout. I've gone many times over a couple of years, and every time I'm disappointed with the result. The people are super nice, but the haircuts are not what we're looking for. We will not be returning. read more

To whom it may concern: My wife and I just brought in our child for his first hair cut. I am terribly unhappy with our experience, angry even. Police cars and fire trucks don't make a place kid friendly, people who respect and demonstrate care for kids do. We didn't experience the above. None of the employees took more than the briefest moment to say hello or connect otherwise with our child. The hair stylist made no attempt to make a connection with him. She didn't explain anything that she was going to do, she just rushed in to trying to get it done. Unsurprisingly, our son was unhappy. He cried. We were told this was normal, and of course it's normal that if a child isn't given time to adjust and feel safe that he will be upset. The hair stylist demonstrated very little listening. She sought only the most basic of information to inform her job at hand - cut that kid's hair. She didn't listen to us and she certainly didn't listen to our son's body language and verbal cues. She was so solely focused on getting it done that she rushed cutting around his ears and snipped one, causing it to bleed and him to scream. Her immediate response "I didn't do it." Of course, she did. There was barely an apology once it was clear that she had to bear responsibility for her actions. In addition, I found our experience hollow - our child's first hair cut is something we wanted to celebrate, but Trimmings made it a rushed transaction, with a procedural awarding of a certificate with a small piece of hair in a dime bag stapled to it. We can't get back our firsts, but we be sure to never have this experience again. We will not be returning and will be actively informing our parent friends of our terrible experience at Trimmings. Lastly, when I called to let someone know we had a terrible experience, all I was asked was if we had the email address - there was no apology, nothing. I strongly recommend Trimmings staff to be trained in customer service and early childhood development if you are going to bill yourself as the place for kids' haircuts and want satisfied customers. We visited Trimmings for my son's first haircut and there were some major flaws. We walked in and after being greeted, I asked if there was a changing table in the bathroom... their answer: NO. What kind of establishment who's primary target is children doesn't have a changing table?!? I don't care if it's a restaurant, store, or five-star salon, if your target audience is families or children than you should have at least one changing table for customer use. So after changing my son's diaper in the car (not fun and very tricky, but better than a floor), we went back inside for the haircut. The hair dresser was not overly kind or talkative, and hardly addressed our son at all. She didn't seem to really like cutting kids hair. That said, she listened to our request, offered suggestions for his hair type and did a pretty good job. As Adam B. wrote (10/11/14) "police cars and fire trucks don't make a place kid friendly, people who respect and demonstrate care for kids do". I was expecting a little more for a $17 child's haircut. They did provide a little certificate for his first haircut with a snip of hair in a baggie. This is the only children's salon that my kids are totally cool with. I'm happy to say they got my kids over the whole "crying for the haircut" stage! They're patient, they give great haircuts, it doesn't cost a fortune, and they've got toys! Oh, and they have suckers, which could be their favorite part. Just sayin... read more

Unfortunately, we had a very traumatic experience getting our 8-year-old's hair cut here. We have never had a bad haircut with him elsewhere, but we all left angry and in tears. The woman cutting his hair did not listen to us at all. She did what she thought was a "cool haircut" without hearing what he wanted. It seems this might be a better place for babies who do not have opinions about their hairstyle as my child's opinion was dismissed. My son ended up wearing a hat for months until his hair grew out again. read more

Great kids salon!!! My 9 yr old daughter decided she wanted an "edgy anime-style" haircut, and I didn't want her to end up with a cut she'd regret, since we had just spent a year growing her hair out! We met with Nicole, who was fantastically helpful as my daughter and I decided on a happy medium between edgy-bad and edgy-stylish. The haircut was great! My daughter had her vision realized and her haircut is really fun and unusual without being weird. We'll be going back for the 3rd time next week, and are confident that Nicole will be able to give my daughter a slightly modified "summer" haircut. The folks at the front desk are great and obviously enjoy kids. I am so relieved to have found an alternative to Superc-ts, which is really hit or miss in terms of stylist skill, kid-friendliness, etc. (And don't even get me going on Snip-it's near the mall. Drug-addled zombie stylist with uncontrollably shaky hands-- with scissors -- cutting near my child's ears and eyes -- EEEK!!!) Finally, I love supporting a locally owned salon. Cutting the hair of a 2 year old boy is an art and I appreciate the talented artist that did so this past Saturday. My son has beautiful hair and because of this we have only cut it on 2 occasions. Trimmings has fun car shaped chairs that are perfect for a 2 year old boy obsessed with cars. But even with the distraction of driving a police car, my son was antsy and not overly thrilled with getting his haircut. The woman that cut his hair didn't miss a beat. She was professional, quick, and did a great job even with a moving target. I also like that they sell the Fairy tales line of hair products. In case you are unfamiliar with these products, they are natural lice repelling products (shampoo, conditioner, daily conditioning spray, etc). Until I had a child, I was unaffected and unaware of how terrifying lice is for a woman with slight OCD. It wasn't until a recent lice scare at our daycare that lice entered my radar and shook my world. Thankfully we avoided the lice and now I feel that we are very prepared should it happen again. My son's hair is cleaned daily with this rosemary and tea tree shampoo and I'm so happy to know that I can buy refills locally at Trimmings. read more

I have been taking my 2 boys here to get their haircuts for about a year and we love it! They get great cuts quickly (which they like) and the environment is calm and friendly, (which I like). The ability to make an appointment is a huge plus when trying to squeeze in errands. We love it! read more

My son is not an easy haircut and I apologize over and over and they make me feel so comfortable and do a great job with understanding my son needs breaks. This place is fantastic! We went to Trimmings for my son's first haircut. The staff was not only patient with him, but they were patient with us (his parents!) as we took a million pictures. We have been back for every haircut since the first one, and we will never go anyplace else. They are kind, patient, and make everyone in the family feel comfortable. Even when my toddler boy was "misbehaving" it didn't phase them one bit! The atmosphere is great. They have a play area to keep little ones entertained while they wait (they take walk-ins, but keep in mind you can make appointments as well!) They have cool chairs for the little kiddos to sit in while getting their haircut, but they also have a more grown-up area for the "big kids" too. Keep up the good work, Trimmings! read more
