    Hargow--shrimp dumplings
    Michelle C.

One of two restaurants initially owned and still run by an 86 year old Chinese Cambodian grandma who runs her kitchen similar to how my grandma runs her's. This place is great. Attentive staff who speak many dialects of Chinese, Khmer, Vietnamese, french, and English. This place is worth the visit if you're homesick and missing good authentic Asian food. Their menu is extensive and range from cambodian cuisine to Vietnamese to Thai and traditional Chinese dim sum! Quelle surprise! My favorite was the banh canh noodle soup, the 1b. Thick banh canh noodles soaked in rich broth filled with delicious cuts of lean pork, shrimp, and fish cake. Best eaten with their pickled peppers that lay sitting on their lazy Susan of condiments. But beware, these peppers pack a powerful punch! Roast duck was also quite good. Succulent and best served with white rice to soak up the delicious sauce. Also good is the tri colored dessert. Super tasty and a great way to end a meal. I really like this place and came back within the hour of my visit just for late night takeout--thats just how good it was!

Har gao, turnip cakes and a sort of shrimp dumpling with cilantro that was amazing!

Best dim sum in Paris, hands down... And I've eaten authentic dim sum in Hong Kong and Singapore! The chicken feet were the best I've ever had, pork spare ribs, turnip cakes, shu mai, har gao, pork buns, etc. were amazing! I also had a really good shrimp dumpling with cilantro in it! I would not recommend the soups, however... The one I tried was quite bland. I've also not heard the best things about the regular food.

Not as good as the popular street food eateries in Asia, but certainly better than many of its counterparts elsewhere in Paris, Europe, or even America. Long menu. But you will not find refined cuisine here, just satisfying street food at very reasonable prices. Tricotin and it's slightly-older neighbour New Hoa Khoan, are open from 9 am (yes!) to 11 pm. At mealtime, there are usually long lines of Asians (a good sign!), so if you don't like queuing, go for brunch at 11am.

Traditional Cambodian noodle soup and Seafood Cambodian noodle soup!

Delicious Cambodian Noodle Soup, the broth is better than any New York (Bo Ky) "Gum Bean Gor Tew" I ever had, besides in Cambodia. The coffee is delectable!

Beef with oyster sauce and FRESH ginger on top !

My starter was a crunchy spring roll type thing served with delicious mint and lettuce leaves. The mint really made the dish special. My main course was chicken in a red curry and coconut sauce. I ordered: -Amok poisson- white fish, yellow coconut milk curry, basil, bamboo shoots, and bell pepper (cooked in banana leaves) -Noodles sautéed with vegetables -White rice I also had one of my friend's spring rolls & tasted the sliced banana, tapioca, and warm coconut milk. I was disappointed. The white rice was undercooked; the sautéed noodles were cold, oily, and had only a few bean sprouts and carrots by the way of vegetables; the banana dessert needed more sugar; and the Amok poisson could have been lovely if it weren't for a slight fishy wateriness that kept cutting through the flavors of curry and basil. The spring roll was the best part of the meal - fresh, ingredients well-dosed. The servers were friendly enough, but I really didn't appreciate their **walking through the dining room at 10:30 pm, placing checks on the tables, saying "we're closing," and then dragging the trash bin and baskets through the dining room right in front of all lingering diners.** Chez Ama may not be in the center of Paris, but 10:30 is early--anywhere in France-- for kicking out customers. I might come back, but probably not. Not when there are restaurants like Tamarind, whose red curry Amok poisson with sticky rice was a pure pleasure.

My friend and I both ordered entrees, however, our third friend did not (not an unusual occurrence in the US), which seemed to seriously anger the waitress. A couple minutes later she returns and starts speaking to us in French, but since we only speak broken French we could not understand. She then proceeds to pull aside another customer in the restaurant and asks him to translate for us. He seemed pretty uncomfortable when he was translating for us. Apparently, we were not allowed to be seated at a 4 person table unless at least 3 of us were eating, since they did not want us a block the space for other customers. We offered to move to a smaller table, however the waitress tried to force us to order a third dish. Normally, I would not be that offended by this, however, the restaurant was completely EMPTY other than us and the man who translated for us. Whose space were we taking up? I simply did not understand. Not only did she try and force us to order another dish, she spoke to us in a completely condescending tone. Perhaps I am too used to the American standards of restaurant service, but I have never been talked to in such a rude manner by someone whose job is to cater to me. We were so offended by her treatment of us that we left before even getting our food. Even though I did not actually try the food, the horrendous costumer service is enough to avert me from ever returning to this place. I would definitely NOT recommend, especially if you are a tourist in the area. There are so many better Thai restaurants in Paris, don't even waste your time by going to this place.
