It's a great little space with lots of natural light, tall white walls, and a cool layout. Every year they have a show for emerging artists and their selection is always amazing; you won't find mediocre artwork here. I was one of the artists for the 2011 show (I hope that doesn't make me biased) but I have to say my fellow artists in this show were AMAZING. Seriously, this is top notch art you would expect to see in San Francisco or Chicago. I believe they have new shows every 6-8 weeks so be sure to check their website for upcoming events. They also rent out the gallery for parties/receptions. I also have to mention that the staff is wonderful and very sweet. No pretentious folks here! There's also a few cafes nearby so this would make a cute little Saturday afternoon date! A definite go to spot for any art lovers.

They are beginner-friendly, where people come for one class and then come back over and over again. They make friends in class and then take other courses together - it's a great place to network with artistic people. Through innovative programming, the Firehouse Art Center continuously reevaluates its course offerings to meet the community's interests. Glass and jewelry classes always fill quickly. However, the subject matter varies significantly from there. A painting class may focus on landscapes, people, multimedia, animals, or abstract designs. Other offerings include photography, pottery, drawing, crocheting, sculpting, calligraphy, and paper arts. Classes are offered in four- and eight-week courses, with additional, shorter workshops usually on weekends. Classes may be skill-level restricted, but most offer individuals of any interest or skill level the opportunity to start and try their hand at a new art. "It's not about perfection; it's about the process," said Dr. Nikki Krumwiede, Programs Coordinator for the Firehouse Art Center. "Art allows individuals to learn a new skill, but they also get to express themselves in ways they might never have previously." Through courses, art exhibitions, and art events, community art centers allow individuals to make new friends, explore new skills at their own pace, and positively engage in their community. "Investing in yourself expands what you believe is possible," said Tricia Edwards, artist and international inner flow guide. "Whether learning a skill that fuels your imagination or flexing it through creative expression, you break free from rigid thinking and open doors to new opportunities. By strengthening your capacity for curiosity, imagination, and expression, you 'unlimit your beliefs,' your choices, and the life you never knew was possible." The Firehouse Art Center offers art courses and events for children and parents/children. They haven't forgotten Fido and Fluffy, either, hosting events that feature and benefit pets. "We are a community resource," said Dr. Krumwiede. "We welcome anyone to come by; pop your head in and see what is happening and how you can get involved. We love meeting new people and showing them around the Firehouse." For anyone ready to start giving back, the Firehouse Art Center offers several community investment opportunities. Individuals can volunteer for differently abled individuals in classes, at art events, or the Healing Studio. If a person is artistically inclined, they might want to teach a workshop; if the response to their workshop is positive, they might be asked to teach a course. Other opportunities to get involved in community arts include Art Forces, a free program for veterans and active service members; Zoo Sketch, where individuals learn about drawing through sketching animals at the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Gardens; Equality Club, dedicated to promoting equality through the creative expression of visual arts; and Art After School, which offers a delightful array of creative courses for children of all ages. Worth noting: from the photographs, the art museum is getting reviews on this page for the natural history museum which is a few blocks away. It, however, is also fantastic and needs to better promote that it has the largest dinosaur fossil on exhibit in the United States. Bottom line: both museums are exceptional. Staff are fantastic. If I only had time to visit one, it would be the art museum but that is only due to personal preference. If you have time, stop in on both.

Last night during the February Art Walk was Chris McDaniel's show and the artwork was absolutely insane. So many meticulous details..it was mind blowing. A lot of his art looks like some kind of DMT experience. His original works were not in my price point, but there were tons of prints available and the gallery also has a lot of art books and stickers and shirts for sale.

I admit I was scared to leave the painting with a stranger, but it had been degraded by exposure to smoke from a house fire and years of smoking in the home followed by neglect in a storage facility so a cleaning and restoration was a necessity. On top of the stellar job he did in repairing cracks and missing pieces of paint while refinishing the wooden frame, Greg made it look like what I think it looked like the day my parents received it as a wedding present from Earl Halliburton in 1949. Even better, he completed the work in time for us to enjoy it again in its rightful place in our home for Christmas. So glad I had it done locally instead of sending it to an entity in Denver. Our favorite is the dinosaur displays. There is even a lady that will give you interesting facts. For second level, you can ride elevator and see them from up high. Or kids may love to walk the long stairs up. Currently they have a traveling bug section but it's really a small play area. They do have a worker there to keep control of the area. It's not too big, so just a couple hours. It's super clean, quiet during week. They do have a gift shop also. Cost is 10 and seniors 8. A great place to visit once a year.

I got to meet most of the artists, talk with them about their different mediums and passions. Kewl variety. Face painting today too. Even if you are not into art, you probably are familiar with a couple of the artist's work, like Bob Palmer who did all the Bricktown Murals. Carol Lorance is there with her Dragonfly Silks. Amazing photography too. But I got talking to Alexander Tomlin who was doing some cool stuff with metallics and the way the light was catching his art made it seem alive. It's a funky drop process on canvas and he kinda lost me. But wow. They are still getting set up, and it is a bit off-the-beaten path or I would have given it a 5star. A bit hard to find - southern end of the mall by the food court. South of the Carousel. The signs showed Art Classes available for children and adults. Can't wait to stop on by again when they get fully underway with those.
