We did the 2-hour private sail experience with Captain Dave. His directions to find the boat were impeccable, and I don't know how anyone could get lost. Not far from the 911 Memorial, the marina was very easy to find and had great views of the Jersey shoreline. Captain Dave is a native to the area, so he knows virtually everything about this area. He pointed out landmarks and took us right up to the Statue of Liberty while telling us about Ellis Island and the other buildings in that area. The views from the boat were astounding, especially of the Manhattan skyline. Dave was really friendly and we had a great time laughing and taking photos with him. My sister and I had the BEST time on his sailboat, Tara, and we will definitely go back. HIGHLY recommend! read more

Amazing experience. We were lucky because we had the boat for only the 2 of us! It's good to go in December because due to the cold weather, less people go. The captain was awesome and very friendly. The sail was fantastic with amazing views of Statue of Liberty, a wonderful and magical sunset and the NYC skyline! They gave us blankets! Hubby surprised me for our anniversary with a private sunset sail in NYC harbor this past week...Actually, he first joked with me that he was taking me mini-golfing (the sailboat Tara is moored in an inlet located next to one of those swanky new Hudson River Park piers complete with mini golf course). But at the last second he turned away from the golf window & walked over to the water railing, leaned down and "Ahoy"-d Captain Dave of the Tara! We climbed aboard the sailboat, got a quick safety briefing, and were under way in a few minutes. Hubby had rented out the entire sailboat (which seats 6 comfortably) for just us 2! Talk about romantic... the sun was setting and Captain Dave put up the sails, we floated past Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty, Battery Park, etc... It was quite peaceful & I will say this: we felt VERY special compared to the other sailboats & motorboats on the harbor that had people crammed in shoulder to shoulder. Ours was far more relaxing & intimate. The Captain really knew his stuff - told us bits of NYC history & interesting tidbits about other boats in the harbor. But as this was meant to be a romantic night, he let us have our moments and wasn't chattering away all the time, which I really liked. I have to say, he struck the perfect blend in being friendly, informative, and unobtrusive. We brought our own little picnic of wine, baguette, cheeses, pate, etc... and we were free to drink and eat as we wished. Seriously, this was the BEST anniversary we've ever celebrated... but on to the service you actually care about: Time: 2 hours Rates: $65 pp (reasonable for NYC) Boat: Tara is a nice-sized sailboat & the Capt said it was newly refurbished (the wood trim is gleaming). Captain: Friendly without being intrusive, knows his stuff regarding sailing as he's been doing it for decades & is fully licensed/insured, and will give you a bit of a history lesson if you want it :) BOTTOM LINE: Go! If you're looking to get out on the harbor for a few hours & don't feel like being crammed in with the rest of the touristas, give Tara & Captain Dave a try! read more

On the day of our sail, he was unwell and he right away appointment Captain Sam. Sam was so nice that not only he was sailing our boat but gave all the info we needed for the sail boat. He offered water, blanket, tower everything. It was such a great hospitality. They treat us as there guest on the boat. My husband and I decided against boarding the crowded tourist boats that go to the Statue of Liberty but chose instead to take a private sailing tour with David on his gorgeous sailboat. One of my New York associates is a sailing fanatic. He comes from a long line of sailors and spends most of his free time in the ocean. His colleagues even call him Popeye the Sailor. He booked a City Lights Statue Tour. We went there by the subway to the World Trade Center. It was barely five minutes away. We were all recommended to wear life jackets. I'm very pleased by the way they take their responsibility on safety - in a responsible, but not a forceful way. And we got to bring beer. Yaaay! Captain David is a super cool guy. A real professional in this business, we talked about his experience, he told us stories and we had a great time and good fun. He also allowed us to get the wheel and gave us advices on what to do and how. His staff was very friendly, too. They helped us a lot with the sails. The tour itself was amazing. It was a private night tour, so it was only our company of four. We had the chance to see all of New York City's lights. NYC is amazing at night with all its lights, and the way skyscrapers illuminate the sky. The Lady of Liberty looked like an angel by the glow of her torch. I HIGHLY recommend Captain Dave and the entire sailing experience! I decided that I wanted to get some on the water time in before winter hell breaks loose so I googled sailing in NYC. I abhor the big touristy/booze cruise scenarios so when I saw that Tribeca Sailing takes a maximum of 6 people at a time, I was all in. I made a reservation on Saturday for a Sunday afternoon sail. I arrived right before 3 and my date was running a few minutes late so I walked down to the dock and was warmly greeted by Captain Dave. It turns out there was only 1 other person that was going to join us so it was almost like we had our own private cruise. We hopped aboard the Tara, which is a classic. I sailed quite a bit when I was younger but really just wanted to relax and soak in the absolutely perfect weather and some good wine. You have the option of just sitting back and relaxing or trying your hand at sailing. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect day. We sailed out to as close as we could get to Lady Liberty and then just leisurely sailed around. Captain Dave was informative and mentioned points of interest. This was exactly what I was looking for in an end of summer afternoon and I plan on many more sailing trips with Captain Dave and the Tara. read more
