Writing this review following our initial emergency, prior to our follow-up visit! Our dog experienced a seizure (her first ever) at home, a few weeks ago. We had just moved to this area a few days prior, so we called the closest emergency vet we could find. The staff on the phone were able to calmly handle the situation (and calm us down), tell us exactly what to do, and we were waiting for us the second we arrived at the hospital. Once at the hospital, they took our fur baby back, and stabilized her and her vitals. Dr. Shuttleworth came out to tell us she was stable, no more seizures, and presented us with all of our options moving forward. He was calm and reassuring. The staff was ALL friendly, and knowledgeable, and most importantly, not pushy (allowed us time to figure out what the right path was for our family). They were up front about ALL options, pricing, and suggestions. I really appreciated the staff being supportive, and giving us direction. I felt they were concerned, receptive to all of our questions and fears, and really made our situation better (less scary for us). Also to note- I was not available the day after (while our fur baby was at the hospital having procedures done) and I was able to call once off work to get the full report of all the testing, firsthand from the neurologist (Dr. Warren). I appreciated him taking the time to explain tests & labs to both my partner and me (was not annoyed at all that he had to repeat all the information twice during the day) Moving forward, we will have follow- up appointments with Dr. Warren, at the same location. I appreciate that they have several specialists here, if you need one after your initial ER visit. Yes, it is expensive, just as any animal hospital is. I don't think their prices are much different from other emergency vets we've been to (for previous, non-related issues). Loved this ER vet and would recommend to others in the area. Competent, compassionate, and caring. read more

last week my husband brought our 14 lb yorkie in for a snake bite on his mouth. TVRH told us it wasn't a copperhead bite and that the dog was fine. they gave the dog some pain meds and sent him away but not before charging 400 dollars for absolutely nothing. they didn't really examine him or run any tests though my husband clearly informed them that the dog was already being observed by our vet for kidney problems. luckily we had a regular vet appointment the next day where they ran blood and urine tests and told us that we had to take the dog into NC State's small animal hospital that same day. if we had listened to the vets at TVRH, our dog would be dead. by the time we got to State (36 hrs after the bite), we were immediately informed that he did have a venomous copperhead bite, that his kidneys were failing and he was getting tissue necrosis in his neck. NC State managed to stabilize him and treated us with professionalism and respect, informing us of costs all along the way. TVRH is a terrible facility that provides sub-standard care for sky-high prices. our vet told us to never take animals to this hospital and to go to VEG in Chapel Hill instead. read more

After our emergency vet decreased their hours to 3 nights per week, I had to find alternative care to address a seizure suffered by my beloved 5-year old, 4 lb. Chihuahua. I was referred to TVRH. I'm thrilled with the care by TVRH. From the initial call with Mackenzie at the front desk, the vet techs like Becca, veterinarian Dr. Lyle, and neurologist Dr. Warren, everyone was caring and helpful! Dr. Lyle provided prompt attention to triage my dog. She offered several options for care including a neurology visit, which was selected. Dr. Warren asked many questions to gain a clear picture of what happened prior to neurology imaging. While I hope we don't need to go back, I'm grateful to know TVRH is there if needed. read more

Our beloved family cat suddenly collapsed and I contacted Triangle VRH. They responded quickly and asked me to bring him. Sadly, he had already passed away. They were so KIND and I cannot say enough about their response time and care. We loved our elderly kitty and it was such a loss. Thank you to the vet and all the staff at Triangle. read more

We bought our Cavapoo to their Holly Springs, NC location recently. She was throwing up and not eating or drinking. 3 hours and $850 later we were told she had a blockage in her small intestine that would require surgery to correct ($4,000 to $6,000). We declined, asked for subcutaneous fluids and anti-nausea shot and took her home. Went to our own vet the next day and as it turned out she only had an upset stomach. No surgery was necessary. Needless to say, we will never return to this practice. read more

We had to bring our 14 year old cat in on a Sunday afternoon. We sadly received the news that her kidneys were completely failing. An issue was missed with our regular vet. They were very kind and compassionate. We've euthanized our pets with Lap of Love which is preferred but we weren't afforded that opportunity this time. Still, it was a very gentle process and the doctor and techs were very good. Take the one and two star reviews with a HUGE grain of salt. Especially the ones by Cailyn M. and Patti P. They fail to understand how triaging and the business of euthanasia works. In both of their cases, the problems were missed by their respective regular veterinarians, not anyone at an emergency hospital. It's the same principle with humans. When you have to go to the emergency room, you're not going to blame your preexisting conditions on the emergency staff. At least, you shouldn't and if you do, don't. I'm not saying there's zero chance there's bad experiences. I've read through some of the bad reviews and a couple of others were problematic but they fall under not knowing about triage and business of euthanasia. Patti and Cailyn are redirecting blame where it doesn't belong and that shouldn't be allowed. read more

0 out of 5 stars if possible. My recommendation: go elsewhere. I'll never trust this practice with any of my pets. I'd drive past this practice on my way to another practice to get quality care. Blue Pearl in Durham has limited hours but offers better, more personal, quality care and they have offices in Raleigh and Cary that are open 24/7. On Wednesday, we had to put our Chase down the day after he was discharged from here. In 2016, we had to put our Dottie down the day after she was refused care by this practice. We said we'd never go near this practice again but they were recommended because of the neurologist on staff so we gave them another chance but never again. Chase was seen twice at TVRH this week and both times, we were told he was ok to go home. Within 24 hours of his first visit at TVRH he was back after referral by a vet at VEG in Cary (who had previously worked at TVRH). When we arrived at TVRH, we waited for over 30 min with a sick dog even with a direct referral. When the tech finally came out, she apologized and said they had several emergent cases they were trying to take care of. I unknowingly rolled my eyes and the tech had the audacity to say "not that he's not an emergency, I saw you ROLL YOUR EYES, but we can actually do something for the other animals". This is the LAST thing anyone wants to hear. My sick dog was not their priority and they felt they couldn't do anything for him because their job was to watch him until the neurologist could evaluate him. An hour after they had taken him to triage, we were still waiting with no news. During this time, we were left listening to the receptionists complain; they rolled their eyes, complained about callers, and gossiped about cases all within ear shot. We had to ask for an update and once put in a room we waited another 30 min to talk to the overnight vet (we'd been there for over 2 hours at this point). Our conversation with the overnight vet (Dr Goodman) felt extremely rushed, she told us they would monitor him and keep him comfortable and the neurologist would be in in the morning. When we asked about prophylactic care (based on experience with a bloodline relative of his with similar symptoms) and questioned need for MRI and spinal tap, the she said she was just a "ding-dong ER vet" compared to the "smarty-pants neurologist". Chase stayed overnight and we were told we'd receive an update early Tuesday morning, but by that afternoon we hadn't heard anything and called for an update. They put us on hold for several minutes while trying to locate Chase and eventually came back to say he was getting his MRI. Later we heard from the neurologist who had unconclusive news and said he could come home later or the next day. Tuesday evening, we went to pick up Chase. The tech went over the discharge papers, not only was the chief complaint wrong but also the discharge condition which said he was in good spirits and eating/drinking well. Chase was clearly far from that. He was still very drugged and not eating or drinking. They also mentioned giving him a medication we didn't have a prescription for. The tech went back to confirm the instructions with the neurologist (Dr Warren) who was in a procedure and we were told the discharge instructions still had not been finalized but we could take Chase home. Wednesday, we contacted TVRH several times regarding his actual discharge instructions (to no avail) and increased neurological symptoms. We were told if the nystagmus was a concern, we would hear back from them, which we never did. Chase began showing signs of difficulty breathing and jaundice. We didn't want him to suffer any longer and took him to Blue Pearl to get another opinion. They greeted us with empathy, kindness, and a caring attitude. In the end, we unfortunately had to let Chase go, he was too sick and we didn't want him to suffer any longer. We trusted them and it will always be our biggest regret. If you care for your pet, PLEASE take them somewhere else. If they question any of this, their security footage can confirm it all. read more

Triangle Veterinary Referral Hospital - Our baby boy who we lost 9/13/23 after VERY poor care at TVRH. - Veterinarians Near Me - Durham, North Carolina

My experience with the staff at TVRH has been positive. Everyone has been extremely nice and kind, however; we have spent upwards of $20,000 on our small dog's broken leg that occurred in the fall of 2024. We were first advised that she should have surgery to have a plate put in to stabilize the fractures. We were not notified by the surgeon that this surgery on small dogs is typically not very successful due to their tiny legs/lack of blood flow that that (according to other vets) there is a 50% chance of implant failure. We followed all protocol and thought things were going well until she suddenly couldn't walk 8 weeks later. We were unable to get in touch with anyone at TVRH who could give us answers until a week and a half after she became lame again due to the surgeon being out of the office for Christmas and New Year despite reaching out and sending him emails. At this point, the surgeon recommended leaving the broken plate in her leg and trying to cast and rest her, which we did for several weeks. Her lameness and discomfort increased and we got additional xrays which informed us that the plate had moved in her leg. Due to this, rather than recommending amputation, the surgeon recommended removing the plate and trying a bone graft. We were told this had a good likelihood of success. So, we did the second surgery, removed the plate and did the graft. Now, almost 6 weeks later, we are being told that the leg is not healing and that we should amputate. When I called today to set up the amputation, I was told that this procedure will now cost between $5,000 and $7,000 due to price increases. Upon calling other vets, it has come to my attention that multiple other veterinary hospitals with surgeons are able to do it for $1800 to $2500. As someone who works as a professional with animals in the equine industry, I am disgusted by the lack of information and guidance related to this injury. It feels like TVRH only wanted more money through multiple procedures that never had a great prognosis to begin with and they still fail to recognize any good reason for why the metal plate they put in failed and broke at the screw holes. We will be taking our business elsewhere and I would not deal with them again, especially if you are financially able to treat your pet at a high level, they will just take advantage. read more

I feel let down by my personal Vet and Triangle Vet care . My darling little Jack Russell Died of kidney failure due to Lyme disease. Annie' s appetite changed when we returned from our cabin in VA. She refused a couple of things that she usually loved but was still eating treats and her 2 meals a day by Friday she refused her breakfast. I rushed her to the vet and was told to take her to Triangle Emergency for fluids. I up front, paid $2,000. The report from night vet was good. I visited next day and brought her special treat which she ate. Next day I got a call say they trying to get her numbers up. That afternoon when I visited she refused the chicken I had prepared. I fel that "the dye was cast"and called the hospital and said I wanted to pick Annie up but was told she needed to be on fluids and was to be seen by the SPECIALIST the next morning, I should have known this was a ruse to get MORE MONEY. Early the next morning when I arrived, I was given Annie and told there was no hope. That bill came to almost $6,000. I took Annie home and laid her on my bed. Lap of love came late that day. I probably didn't need to pay that bill ($450)) which was reasonable. Annie was pretty far gone. Annie's demise cost almost $7500. My vets bill to tell me to take her to the emergency vet was $550.00. My Vet was not up front with me about Annie's Chances And neither was Triangle. She could have been at home away from neon lights Mary P read more

All the staff here are wonderful. They are kind and comforting and friendly. We came here at 3am on a Sunday and had no wait at all to be seen. It was Covid so we waited in the car, but our little guy was seen right away. Everything is frighteningly expensive, but I guess you need to expect this sort of thing when you decide to be a pet parent. Also, the emergency vets are trained to do everything they can to work with the current emergency situation. If you try to ask a question about long-term lifestyle or best case scenarios they won't be very helpful. For this reason, I transferred my dog to the care of our primary vet as soon as possible. Very grateful for this place during a difficult time. read more

It's an emergency vet - I hope you don't have to come here. They're busy all the time so they're slow to work and update which is frustrating and stressful. Vet care seems to be thorough but front desk staff is hit or miss. A receptionist told me to stop calling to check on my dog after a vet tech told me to expect a call within a time window that never came. I don't expect her to get any sort of chastising but steel yourself if you need to communicate with front desk staff here. read more

I am updating my review upon my visit at TVRH. The veterinarian and Vet Technicians treated my dog with such care and comfort. They went over a summary of what would be done before they took him back. Once they took him back it was not a long wait. When he was done I liked how they took us to a room to go over his diagnosis so we had privacy. The check out process was quick and easy. They were wonderful. Most of the front desk did a wonderful job. For example, I had my toddler in one hand, my dog in the other, one came up to get information from me and had me sit to make it easier. They were so nice. All of them were 5 stars if not more. Just wonderful. Unfortunately, I could identify the original front desk associate who was very rude in her demeanor. She frowned as soon as we walked in and gave attitude, she was very rude. When I said thank you for your help to the front desk, she glared at me. Some people just do not like their jobs and it shows. But I don't want it to affect the rest of the establishment as everyone else was wonderful. read more

This is a follow-up to the review posted today by Cailyn M. My rating of this practice is 0/10, which was not an option. The tech and night vet we saw at 5 am on 9-11 at TVRH were very nice and compassionate, as were Dr. Warren's tech, Jordan, and Dr. Warren. The remainder of the staff that we encountered were rude and dismissive. After spending almost $8,000 on neurologic (MRI, spinal tap) and other lab tests, TVRH completely missed the diagnosis of autoimmune hemolytic anemia, which was diagnosed the next day by a small animal vet at a private practice. We wasted so much time chasing down wrong paths that there was no saving our poor little guy. He was too sick to survive. It was a tragic and unnecessary loss for our family. This is the second time that TVRH has been responsible for the death of one of our dogs. If you have a pet emergency, please go somewhere else for the sake of your pet's health and life. read more

These veterinarians are great people who care a lot about your pet's survival. They are talented and kind hearted people. Just be a little cautious in emergencies because basically you give them a limit in how much you can spend, and once you hit that limit they're just like hey your pet needs more. It's not their fault as things come up, and their intentions are not malicious in any way. But if you come in with $1000 up front they should be able to tell you "this is likely going to cost you $5000" then when you don't have it they will say to you as you're putting your beloved pet down "it's a shame this all came down to finances." I'm sorry but to say that is a scumbag thing to do. If you go in debt $3k to try and save your pet, so much so that you miss your mortgage that month, and then to tell you that as you're putting your dog down because you don't have an extra $5k laying around is not OK. Now that I think about it, taking some stars off. It's extremely insensitive to tell someone struggling with finance that basically they're choosing to kill their pet because they can't up their limit to $5k. The cost isn't what bothered us, but the attitude that you don't care about your pet unless you sell your house to save it is ludicrous and unrealistic. 5 stars for their workers being great at their job. -4 stars for the condescending and accusatory words during a time of tremendous grief. If you don't have thousands and thousands to save your pet don't bother coming here they will just make you feel horrible guilt that you don't and it will haunt you. Overall they genuinely care about your pet, just not people. read more

The actual care that our cat received at this hospital was good. She had a major surgery and several weeks of cancer treatments. We've only had good interactions with staff members and we like the doctors we've seen. I'm giving the hospital such a poor review because their communication is absolutely awful. -When we have had to drop the cat off or pick her up, we are often left waiting on hold in the sweltering parking lot for 30 minutes. Frequently after being passed around to several administrators and getting put on hold and waiting for care , someone will pick up the phone and say "hello?" after we've clearly been forgotten about, and we'll have to start the process all over again. It's a long drive to the hospital, and it's so stressful on the cat to make her wait the extra time. -My cat had a major surgery at this hospital. She had some mild complications afterwards and I called the hospital for advice. They wouldn't give advice over the phone, telling us that we needed to bring her in, but also that the ER was at capacity and we couldn't bring her in. Thank god we have a good vet elsewhere that we could call. Our vet recommended that we give the issue a few days and it did clear up on its own. -Communication seems to be very bad between departments. When she was initially diagnosed with cancer, we were told that it was localized and that she could have a pretty straightforward surgery to deal with it. We even scheduled the surgery. We got a call the next day informing us that the oncologist hadn't even been involved in that decision, and that she had spotted another tumor that was inoperable. So the surgery was mooted and we had a chaotic few weeks of trying to even figure out what the best path forward was. It was hard to tell what was happening behind the scenes and it was stressful for all of us. I want to make very clear that I don't think this is a staff issue, this feels like a broader systemic communication problem that the higher ups at this hospital need to address. Everyone who works there seems to be doing the best they can under chaotic and disorganized circumstances. read more

We didn't expect to find ourselves at TVRH. Our cat got sick, we took him to his regular vet who felt he needed to be monitored over the weekend, and she had him transferred to TVRH. A few days later, he had surgery to remove bladder stones, and came home a day later. He had to return later in the week for a surprise complication and spent another day at TVRH, then came home. The pros: They are equipped to offer 24/7 care. The surgeons seem to have done a good job and of everyone we talked to on the phone (because of covid, you can't actually enter the hospital), the surgeons were the clearest in their communication. The cons: $$$. I also got a slight up-sell feeling. They are definitely oriented toward medicalizing everything, so at every step of the way they would suggest more costly tests. Some doctors are better at communicating over the phone than others-- we talked to three who seemed to listen, and thoughtfully answer questions. We talked to two who didn't seem to listen at all. read more

1 star only because my dog is still alive after emergency surgery at the Holly Springs location, but with complications now...thanks. Please be aware that if you have an emergency between the hours of 6-7:30 am you will wait 1.5 hours until the new shift comes on. You wont be told, of course, because they dont care. You will sit in the lobby all by yourself without a single soul in sight for 1.5 hrs thinking that your dog is in crisis and being treated. Only to be told that your dog has been sitting in a kennel waiting to be passed onto the next shift...because the Dr was too busy making phone calls to update owners. I thought emergency meant priority over phone calls. Again, 4 days after massive, invasive emergency surgery (that I paid about $8k for) and is displaying possible post surgical complications, your dog may indeed be put in a kennel for 1.5 hours waiting on a shift change, WHILE you are in the lobby thinking your dog is in crisis and may die. And that was just the proverbial 'straw that broke the camels back'. What a sick joke that place is. read more

It is with a heavy heart that I leave this review. I had to unexpectedly put my 13 year old cat to sleep on a rainy Friday in December. She was my first pet as an adult and so this was the first time I've ever had to make this awful decision. The staff here were incredibly professional and caring. The vet fully explained her findings, and as we discussed treatment options, it became clear the most humane thing I could do would be to say goodbye to my best friend of 13 years. The staff gave me all the time I needed with her to say goodbye. I didn't feel rushed and the system they have set up worked well (they give you a bell to ring when you're ready to start the euthanasia process.) I was heartbroken and sobbing and everyone was so kind to me. I came back today to pick up my girl's ashes and paw print. In the meantime, I'd received a card from TVRH, with handwritten messages from the staff saying how sorry they were. Never having euthanized a pet before, I didn't know what to expect, but the paw print is wonderful and the wooden box my girl's ashes came home in is beautiful. Thank you for treating both myself and Pandora with love and respect on one of the worst days of my life. I won't hesitate to bring a pet back in case of an emergency. read more

Dr Hackett did an incredible job saving our dogs life. Our pouch has a tendency to consume items and she had an internal obstruction. My cat has been a cardiac patient at TVRH for years. This year when I called to schedule an appointment I had to wait 5 months for the appointment. The week before they canceled the appointment we had waited months for and then they messed up the rescheduling of the appointment so I showed up and was turned away with the staff not even considering that it could have been their mistake. Historically the care has been great and I understand that there are staff shortages but the way I've been treated this year by the staff is awful. If there were any other options for cardiologists that wouldn't mean waiting another 6 months I would definitely go somewhere else and recommend that you do so if you have other options. read more

I never leave bad reviews and hate to do so, but what transpired here today needs to be known. My dog shep was lethargic, unable to get up, and had severe diarrhea. We rushed him to this "emergency" clinic, which was a massive mistake. Shep was not seen for 3.5 hours, and out of concern for his state, we decided to ask that we take him to another facility. They returned our dog covered in feces, weak, and lethargic. When I called to inquire why this kind of negligent care would occur, I was hung up on by the receptionist. Not to mention while we waited for 3.5 hours, routine care visits were seen coming and going. Not even IV fluids, which take approximately 30 seconds to insert, were discussed. We have previously had good experiences here but are disgusted and will not return. Save yourself the time and heartache and head to park vet in south durham instead. read more

Multiply the stars by 2 : ) This place is crazy clean and innovative. Not sure how I feel about Large fish in small glass containers (relatively speaking) but I'm not a Cousteau either. Aesthetics aside here is the meat of the review sandwich. And, go! Our little boy of 3 was recently diagnosed with a myocardia murmur. Our doctor while being wonderful knew what we needed and my partner researched and eventually found Triangle. We are from Jville so it took over 2 hours to get him there. I should point out that we tried quite a few hospitals even a school but we ended up feeling lost and subjugated. When we reached out to Triangle we were greeted on the phone warmly and with empathy. That simple interaction on the phone started to give us a sense of hope. We set up an appointment waited about 3-4 weeks and drove down. To give some perspective the other institutions were nasty dismissive and not helpful telling us at one place it would be December before our cat would be seen. When we arrived here we were greeted by the front staff and once again they were very friendly. We waited I'd say about 20 min. and then we were taken to see Jennifer the cardiologist. She gave us a pre-exam overview and then he was taken for a shave to receive his echocardiogram. Afterwards Jennifer gave her assessment and talked to us as adults. We felt more knowledgeable and that is much appreciated. The procedure revealed that he did indeed have the condition but that there was next to no real developments. That insight of course helped us leave satisfied and happy. Lindsey who assisted was very sweet and accessible and that helped as well. Both Jenn and Lindsey were great with our boy and were genuine. Overall all our fears were assuaged and leaving there felt damn good. Even if his prognosis was dire as it certainly could have been the way we were treated would make all the difference in the world. I would recommend Triangle to anyone that loves their pets. It's not often that I feel great leaving a vets but this was my inaugural moment. If you guys are reading this you each made such a difference and you all deserve 5 stars! Ivory sends his love and 2 pads up. Update: He is doing great! Peace, Bill sonic Fricke read more

They took such wonderful care of our Ellie when she needed ACL surgery. Sure, Ellie was not a fan of being there, but I knew she was in great hands. From the receptionist, to the vet techs, nurses, and vets, everyone was lovely, attentive, caring, and professional. Ellie had to come in quite a few times because she kept ripping off her bandage and it even got pretty badly infected, but they were creative, patient, and it's healed beautifully. For an 7 1/2 year old, 68 lb dog who had her bone sawed in half and screwed back in with a plate, she is literally running leaps and bounds, tackling her younger brother, and sprinting circles in the back yard. Unfortunately, our doctor at this veterinary hospital missed the boat completely. We told the vet that the dog seemed to have hurt it's back, wouldn't walk very much, wouldn't jump at all. The vet examined the dog and could not find anything abnormal so proposed doing a panel of many blood tests for $280 looking for something abnormal, would take about 20 minutes. We did not hear any result until at least 45 minutes and had to ask for the vet to return please. All tests were within normal limits, and the vet said that the dog probably had intestinal problems (despite having no intestinal symptoms whatever) and told us to give the dog a diet of rice and chicken. Charges included emergency double charge for the vet (2 x $115, it was a weekend) for a total of over $500. The next day we went to our regular vet by examination alone found a subluxated patella (knee cap) on one rear leg and prescribed pain medication and gabapentin. The dog was well and walking normally after about a week and never developed g.i. symptoms. Lessons: #1. Don't go on a weekend; they were overwhelmed (at 10 am) and did not seem to be able to call in another vet to help out. We were there for 2 hours. #2. Avoid this vet. The vet we saw at Triangle Veterinary Referral Hospital did not do an adequate exam. read more

Five stars to the vet we saw, Katherine Hoff. She was great! But one star to the receptionist I talked to when I called several days later. My dog was having an issue with the medication that Dr Hoff had given to us, and I requested the receptionist to ask an appropriate person there whether it could be discontinued. I had already done some research, and it seemed likely that it could be discontinued without any problem. The receptionist refused to pass the question on to someone qualified to answer. For some she reason, she apparently believed herself qualified to make a determination about my dog's medication, and she insisted that it NOT be discontinued. I found her rude and unpleasant. And completely inappropriate. I was in between vets, and had to go to the new vet before our new dog-patient appointment to get my question answered authoritatively. ... I was correct that the medication could be discontinued. I thought very highly of this emergency practice before this incident with this unprofessional receptionist. Given that I paid FOUR times the amount I would have if I had gone to a regular vet during the week, I would expect better service than this. read more

It was as though we were completely abandoned once our card was swiped. Our dog was experiencing adverse side effects from the post surgical medication routine given to us by this practice. No competent medical professional could be reached at this office to answer any of our questions, and we received no answer to our voicemail. read more

Great service, a tad bit slow but there were a lot of pet patients here on a Sunday night. They're good at communicating although I had to call to get information on my cat. They gave me all of my options and I didn't have to ask twice for prices. The only downside is they do not offer payment plans of any kind because they're new. Which is very unfortunate because I would bring my cat here for regular visits. read more

5 days ago My local vet had to close due to a COVID outbreak, but recommended this location for immediate service. I called trying to get a flea/tick and heart worm prescription, but was told my dog must be seen first. The cost just to get seen was $140 and that doesn't include the price for the prescription to be filled. Outrageous prices for a very simple treatment. I would say it is definitely taking advantage of a bad situation for everyone. They wouldn't even help by contacting our vet, letting us bring in previous health records, or finding other suitable solutions to ensure we could get our prescription filled. Extremely disappointed with the experience. read more

We have had to use Triangle Vet. Referral Hospital several times for emergency visits. Most recently, one of our fur babies needed to be seen for some concerning signs. It was discovered that she needed to be put down for widespread cancer. This was a terrible, terrible, no good, very bad day as you can imagine. With heavy hearts, we said goodbye to our lovely girl. The staff was wonderful to our girl and us. We treasure the paw print impression they made for us and to our surprise an unexpected sympathy card came in the mail days later personally signed by the staff. This was such a kind, caring gesture and went a long way for us. Thank you, Triangle. read more

Be careful. TVRH told me my dog was dying (no chance of recovery). I was told my dog would die any moment due to a sudden anemia and there was nothing that could be done to save her life. They also gave me the option to euthanize her right the way (since she was already a lost case). I was shocked and devastated with the news. The dog was being treated for a chronic GI problem/potential stomach ulcer. It was not life threatening! Lucky I decided to take a second opinion and went to the NCSU Vet Hospital. I am glad I did because the top notch vets at NCSU did all the necessary testing and told me the dog was not dying and she is actually pretty stable. They were surprised to hear TVRH was comfortable suggesting euthanasia to an dog that is so full of life and stable. I feel betrayed! Please be careful when making this kind of decisions for your pet. If I had listened to TVRH my dog would be dead! Instead, she is thriving under the te are supervision of very talented vets from NCSU. Do your research! read more

I have nothing but praise for TVRH and Dr. Michael Grafinger. My husband and I went out to eat one Friday night. When we left our 15-year-old cocker spaniel, Jake, was fine. When we got back about three hours later we found a trail of poop and pee through three rooms. It was a huge mess. We confined Jake so I could clean things up and watch him. When he started vomiting we knew it was time to get some help. We are so fortunate that TVRH has emergency hours! We got there close to midnight and the staff quickly got our little old dog back to an exam room to figure out what was happening. The bottom line was that Jake probably ate something he shouldn't have eaten. Did he find one of those Brookstone dark chocolate / pomegranate candies on the floor that I didn't realize I'd dropped? Maybe. Did he lick one of the frogs that we find in the backyard from time to time? Who knows? Whatever it was it didn't agree with him. Dr. Grafinger gave Jake a shot of anti-nausea meds and subcutaneous fluids, and sent us home with some antibiotics and a dog that temporarily looked like a cocker spaniel / camel hybrid. Jake was back to his elderly self after a couple of days. Dr. Grafinger and the staff were compassionate and very helpful. Check-in and check-out was simple. Someone called a few days later to check on Jake, and they transferred records of his visit to our regular vet on Bahama Rd. I hope you never need to take your beast-buddy to see them on an emergency basis, but rest assured that if you do that you'll both get the best treatment available. read more
