I can't say enough great things about this Vet. We started at Park when we moved here 17 years ago. We are 3 dogs into our tenure with this vet hospital and they're outstanding. From sending me flowers after my first dog crossed the rainbow bridge, to helping me raise two puppies... and every complication or worry was handled with care and compassion. We worried about our pet and said we would reschedule our vacation. We went and returned early to our beloved pet dying a painful death. The vet.... she... took no responsibility and she took our family pet over the rainbow bridge and only talked about her dog. It was one of the worst days of my life. I took my cat in for an ingrown toenail. They charged me 900 dollars. They also gave her a rabies shot without telling me. Well she developed cancer in the leg where they gave her the shot. Apparently in some cats rabies vaccines cause cancer. Several months after the shot she began to limp on her back right leg. I took her back in where they did x-rays and charged me 500 dollars and told me she had a CCl tear and I should do surgery and they had a traveling vet who would do it for 3000 dollars. I declined and wanted to take my cat to an orthopedic surgeon. The orthopedic surgeon took new X-rays and told me he thought she had cancer in her leg. They recommended amputation as the only solution. I did it but took her to South Point animal hospital which is a far superior vet hospital. Unfortunately the cancer had spread beyond her leg and she did not make it. There are a lot of things I don't like about this place. I would suggest taking your pet to South Point or for that matter anywhere else. The vets at this place seem young and inexperienced and following a script. The guy who owns it Phillip McHugh is long retired and just cashing checks getting rich. Overall would not recommend this place. read more

It's always a pleasure for my ferret and I to come here. My ferret LOVES the tech and doctors that see him. I took my ferret to the emergency vet in Raleigh and needed an X-ray and follow up exam on his current situation at Park Vet. The woman on the phone was very sweet and cooperative and was able to squeeze him in for a check up 2 days after his emergency visit. Dr. Carroll and Dr. Hanrahan are amazing at what they do and they know exactly what they're doing when they treat small animals. The drive is a bit long for me, but it's worth coming here for them to treat my ferret. read more

I brought my cat in and after xrays the vet said my cat had bladder stones. The estimated cost was 2400 dollars to remove them. I took my cat to Durham Cat Hospital for a second opinion. Their estimated cost for removal of bladder stones for the same procedure was 910 dollars.thats a tremendous difference in price. Park Vet has always been so expensive for my dogs care also. I will not be returning to them because their costs are way too high. read more

I had to go in sadly to put my hedgehog down. I knew they were not specialized in exotics but I called anyway because I was so scared and saddened by my poor little Wrigley and the closest place was in Raleigh vs Me: in Chapel Hill. They got me in last minute and got me to talk to Dr.Hanrahan who was so nice, while Jocelyn passed me tissues and offered words of comfort. They made the process a bit easier and gave me the time and options. They even gave me his little footprints in a container of clay. Absolutely made it 100% more comforting knowing I'd have a memento of my little old man. See photo, they also do small furry animals, not birds or reptiles. Park Vet is the best! We have been using their services for our 2 small dogs for about a year. The front desk staff is friendly & helpful. The vets & vet techs are very knowledgeable and caring. We are able to get appointment quickly - many times the same day. Our small Italian Greyhound got a puncture wound while we were traveling & we had to take her to an ER vet to be treated. When we got back to Durham (on a Sunday at 2pm) we were unable to get her bandage off without hurting her skin & making her scream/bite. We called the vet & they said to bring her right in. The vet tech was able to get her bandage off within a few minutes without causing her pain, even looked over her wound to see how it was healing and gave me tips for what to watch for. Because we are clients, they didn't charge us for this service. Outstanding customer service & compassionate care. They are truly lifesavers in every way. Highly recommend! read more

How do you let a dog escape your care, not notify the owners in an acceptable timeframe, and not do your very best to locate the dog after their escape? This dog is now deceased due to your lack of care while it was entirely preventable. Someone left their dog that they loved in your hands thinking their dog was safe and would only receive the best. 2020 - what a year! I am writing this review for Dr Goodwin, Dr Hunt, and the caring and compassionate staff at Park Vet. Dr Goodwin has been our sweet cat's vet for many years. As our senior began experiencing some changes, we needed to increase her check up appointments instead of just the annual appointment. Even during COVID-19, the practice is 5 stars with care, compassion, courtesy, and customer service not just during the life of our beloved cat but also after. The hardest decision to any pet owner is saying goodbye especially when the unexpected time comes. Dr Goodwin was excellent to let us be with our beloved cat to say goodbye. The staff was kind, compassionate, and courteous we elected to get her cremated. Throughout the entire process and afterwards, I am still so amazed at how wonderful each member of their practice has been showing care and concern and even sending a beautiful card with signatures from the staff. Overwhelming time and many tears, please know the comfort you have given to our furry friends and especially the owners. COVID has made doing business differently; however, Park Vet does it right. Call from car and let them know your parking spot. The technician retrieves pet, does preliminary and calls the owner, vet does exam and calls owner. The process might take longer and our pets do not wear masks or understand all the fuss but glad to leave and get back home. Kudos Park Vet! read more

We adopted a one-year old rescue a little under two weeks ago and already have been to Park Vet 3 times. So far our pup LOVES this place and Dr. Hanrahan. I've always seen and heard of dogs being scared of the vet and I'm very pleased with how willing ours is to go with them. They're also good about communicating and listening to concerns (from these new pet parents!) The reason we initially went with them was their location being near us, ease of getting in for an appointment, and a perk was a free initial exam within 72 hours of adoption (which is greatly appreciated as you are racking up other costs exponentially when you get a dog). During COVID, they have you sit in the car, give them a call, and have someone come out and get your pet from you. Then they call with any follow up/recommendations. I really appreciate the safety and care taken with this process to make sure our pets can get the care they need with less risk to their owners! The exam cost seems to vary each time (whether for vaccines, sick visit, etc) and it's a little pricier than I expected, but I am chalking these up to initial costs that will hopefully lessen once we are up to date on vaccines, etc. read more

Great veterinary clinic. The hours are great for working folks since they have weekend appointments as well as operate as an urgent care on weekends. The providers and technicians are incredibly friendly and really seem to care about our pets. They follow up with us as well as provide guidance on many things including how to take care of our dog/cat and best food for them. When we lived in Durham, these folks were our go-to for our cats. As we had a trip planned and did not want to leave our MASTERS in the house by themselves as Dorian approached we elected to have them boarded at Park while we were gone. That practice is way to expensive. Whatever reason you bring your dog in they are going to make you pay for a office visit that you don't need. Just give me what I ask for The prices are rediculous. Every single time I take my dog there my bill will be no less than 150.00 . I am going to have to shop around I need a break from these high prices. read more

This was exactly what I envisioned my vet's office to be. I have my first dog, so I didn't exactly know how to find a vet. Also, I'm a highly specialized nurse so I'm pretty critical of the experience. My first vet around here was just meh and got the job done. When my dog got sick they couldn't take me because they only had one vet on (on a weekday!?!?) so I looked around and found this place who took us that day. We saw Dr. Crocket and she was fantastic. She gave me a whole menu of options after assessing my husky and then I was free to choose my own plan according to my judgement and cost. I got the bill to $200 from $600 and she was actually very supportive of my plan - to take some of the services, see how he did, and revisit the other options if he didn't get better. I was amazed at how low-pressure the environment was. Felt like collaborative care. I love this place. read more

My brand new 70lb rescue dog jumped out of the car window on our way home. Try finding a vet at 4:30PM in Saturday... These folks were open and wonderful - they cleaned him up and got him stitched up. The dog is petrified of going to the vet and shakes like crazy, so they let us wait outside and call us in when they're ready. And they treat us really well. A lot of vets are nice but these guys go the extra mile. read more

We took our purebred and rescue cats here 2008-2012 while we lived in the area and were happy with the exception of feeling a bit uncomfortable during interactions with Dr Carroll. We moved 30+ miles away and have missed Park. Especially Dr Lauren Whitley and her compassionate care. I take my cats and, now I have a dog, to the local vet for standard visits but when complex issues arise, Park Vet is at the top of my list. It is worth the drive. These days I am happy to still see Dr Whitley and now to work with Dr Gonzalez, who brightens low spirits and whose bedside manner is second to none. The front desk staff and the veterinary technicians cannot be forgotten. They warmly welcome us in, regardless of how busy they may be. I have always felt like they consider us part of the family and I know they look out for our furbabies as if they were their own. One last thing...I love that Park staff is available on weekends. The vets and staff here are very friendly and have been helpful on the 2 occasions I have visited. They offer weekend hours on Saturday and SUNDAY which has been a really big help when my dog had some gastric distress over the weekend. They follow up with a call a day or so later to make sure your pet is improving. read more

I'm kinda mixed on this vet clinic. Some experiences have been fine, while others have been awful. Not only that but they seem to try and get as much money from their clients as possible. I rarely leave their office with a bill under $100. I understand that vet bills can be somewhat pricey, but here are 2 examples of what I found to be pretty outrageous. Example 1: My fiancée and I boarded our dog there while we were out of the country on vacation. When we returned to pick her up she had a noticeable infection in one of her eyes. She didn't have that infection when we dropped her off and they didn't seem to even notice the nasty discharge coming from her eye. Then when we brought her back, they had the nerve to try and charge me an office visit. They even tried to fight me on paying for the visit. Um, she got the infection on your watch and you didn't treat it while she was on your watch, so why am I responsible for your negligence? Example 2: Sadly my dog is prone to urinary tract infections. Of course instead of being able to call them and say she has another one and getting a prescription, they want an office visit. So that means paying for the office visit, paying for the lab test to confirm what I already knew then paying for the medicine, then paying for the unnecessary follow up visit that requires another lab fee and visit fee. I'm not a doctor, but when a patient has a history of something that is treated with antibiotics...stop milking them for money and just write the script. Be happy to hear suggestions for another vet office. read more

5 barks for Park Vet! When I moved here over a year ago, one of my first projects was finding a vet. I loaded my dog in the car and drove around to different clinics just to see what they were like. At one clinic, my dog started shaking as we walked through the door, had her tail between her legs and looked terrified. I wasn't thrilled with the smell of the place, and it must have been awful for my dog. But when we got to Park, my dog actually acted excited to go in and seemed comfortable right away! My dog sees Dr Geyer and she is amazing. She takes lots of time - never acting rushed - to check over every part of my little pal. She asks lots of questions, which helps a lot for when I've noticed an issue but forgotten about it. She has also been great about caring for my dog the way I want her cared for - everything she needs but not a lot of unnecessary tests. Dr Geyer carefully explains my options and recommends what she thinks is the best choice for my situation. My dog also saw a different vet at Park (I don't remember her name) when she had to be rushed in for an emergency surgery. It was literally 2 days before Christmas and they were absolutely great about handling the emergency. It was a situation where I should have taken the dog in sooner, but no one made me feel bad about it (I already felt awful.) Park Vet is a little pricey, but the service is overwhelmingly better than other vets I've been to. It doesn't even compare. My dog even likes the technicians, who do unfortunate things to her glands. I would definitely recommend this clinic! read more

We have had a good experience with Park Vet so far. They seem to be quite thorough and try to develop good community with some special events. Our main reason for selecting them was the proximity to our home, but I wouldn't mind driving out of the way to visit here. The people are all very friendly and some have seemed to get to know our pet. Boarding for small dogs is $20 per day, which to me is a reasonable fee. The only concern I have is once or twice when we just got our puppy, we tried to call and get a quick answer over the phone. The answer was always to "bring her in for a visit". Well, that means a visit fee, around $60. I get that's probably the safest thing, but a few of the questions we had were pretty simple. Even a best guess would have been reassuring. It's made us hesitant to call in the future for simple things, so we just turn to the Internet for answers. I wish I had better peace of mind to just call the vet. Of course, the whimsical, snarky humor on the sign by the road is always good for a chuckle when we drive by. Be sure to look for it if you're on NC54 between Fayetteville and 751! read more

Been taking my cats to them for a few years. They give great advice, but also listen when I have input about my pet's care. One cat had a chronic condition that needed special food to regulate. Through out the process they helped guide me so that in the end I have a healthy animal. They also have the capability to treat rabbits, which small animal owners know, these vets can be difficult to find. The staff from the front desk to the techs in the back are also kind and professional people who seem to genuinely care about all the animals that come through their door. read more

I just moved from San Francisco to Durham with my 3 month old Cockapoo, Amelia. This is the first dog I have raised on my own, and as such, I am a terrified worry wart mother. I chose Park Vet as they were named the best vet in Durham for 2015 by Durham Magazine. Let me tell you -- they live up to the name! On the first visit, I received an amazing puppy packet that answered A LOT of questions I had about bringing a new pup into the home and some helpful training tips. Additionally, the vet tech was incredibly helpful and gentle with my dog. She got the full treatment (anal gland cleaning, pedicure, vaccinations, de-worming) all for a RIDICULOUSLY reasonable price. The actual vet answered all of my questions and provided GREAT recommendations for obedience school locations & potty training tips. Our second visit here SEALED THE DEAL. Amelia had a bad muscle reaction to her Lepto shot, and when I called the vet in a small panic, the entire staff was helpful and provided an immediate solution. We were instructed to come back to the office and were seen RIGHT away. Every staff member I passed asked if she was ok or if there was anything they could do to make the pup a bit more comfortable while they filled her prescription. You can tell everyone who works here truly CARES about animals and ensuring owners leave feeling confident and informed about their pets health. 5 stars all around! read more

I LOVE Park Vet. My brother has been a customer of theirs for two years and we recently made the switch from Falconbridge Animal Hospital to come here. We had some issues with receiving proper treatment for a recurring health problem that afflicted all of our cats and came to Park Vet to seek a second opinion. From the minute we got into the exam room it was a totally different experience from what we were used to. Dr. Beth Carroll took the time to listen to our worries and frustrations and didn't rush through the exam (she was with us for a good 45 minutes, it was awesome). They gave us tons of useful facts and information about how to make sure we got the most out of the treatment, instead of just handing us a bill and sending us on our way. Dr. Carroll immediately chose a treatment that was less stressful for our animals, one that we had mentioned time and time again to our previous vet to no avail. She even sent us a handwritten card in the mail a couple days later thanking us for coming in and gave us her card/telephone number to call her if there were any lingering issues. That right there, is something that you hardly ever see anymore. We are happy to call Park Veterinary Hospital our new home. Also, they have sign out front with hilarious pet puns on it. I honestly don't understand the negative reviews on here other than someone must have had a bad experience once (it can happen anywhere) and never gave them another chance. We have been taking our two greyhounds and 4 cats here for almost two years. They have always been kind, wonderful people. You can tell they really care about the animals they are treating. Park Veterinary cared for my two rescued Karakachan sisters when we brought them in, filthy and sick, from a kill shelter, one had heart worm and needed a long, painful treatment. That was in 2012. Now both my wonderful girls are happy and healthy and still go in to see Dr. Hunt for vaccines and check ups. They still hate baths and nail trims but they love the treats and friendly faces. I trust Park Vet and wish all veterinary clinics were as good. read more

I will NEVER bring my dogs here again! I have a senior dog that is 15 and a one year old puppy. I brought my puppy in because she has a luxating patella. Immediately the vet wanted to perform surgery that would have had her out of commission for at least 2 months to recover. I sought a 2nd and 3rd opinion and they both concluded that her case is minor, she is not in any pain and surgery is not necessary. Had I listened to this vet, my puppy would have endured a surgery that is not necessary at this time. Their diagnosis was based on their financial interests instead of what was best for my puppy. I also recently returned from a one week trip and boarded both dogs there. The day I picked them up, the puppy had diarrhea the moment we returned home. I took her to another vet the next day and was appalled that she lost 1 pound. She only weighs 7 pounds so this is significant. She must have been ill while she was boarding, but no one informed me. In fact, when I called to check on them, the staff was rude and only said (She's fine) followed by a long silence - no elaboration at all. The boarding area itself is very warm, too warm in my opinion. In addition they only take dogs out about 2 times daily If you plan on taking your animals here for care or boarding, I would advise against it. I was concerned about my dogs for my entire vacation and for good reason. My senior dog wound up getting sick as well. As I write this, it is 2 weeks later and they are only now getting better. read more

We have two cats and have absolutely loved Park Veterinary Hospital these last few years. Dr. Crockett is the most wonderful vet we have ever met. She is helping us through a very sudden and difficult illness with one of our cats. She is intelligent, kind, excellent with our cat who does not like going to the vet, and she is outstanding in the compassionate way she communicates. We all make mistakes and so sending my dog home in pain and not diagnosing what was wrong with him is an honest mistake. But then after I called to talk to the practice manager and not hearing back for two days, that is not just bad customer services, that is just arrogance that is damaging to any business. Because this attitude, you wait on us, we are too busy for you, is not excusable. I will talk to the elusive business manager one of these days and what would have been a brief conversation about why my dog was not helped when he was in immense pain (pain that prevented him from walking, sitting or moving in general, but disappeared when he jumped down a stair) will now be the final conversation I have with this veterinary practice that I have been going to for as long as I have had my dog. I would have continued going to this practice and simply asked that the vet that did not help my dog would not see my dog again, but rather one of the other vets, but not having the courtesy to make time for a call back in two days is an attitude that I find inexcusable. I am not the only the person taking their dog to this place, but avoiding me is an old trick when you know that someone has a case and you do not want to admit it without lying, so you just avoid talking to them. I will now go even for a basic vaccine someplace else, we have a choice and I demand that if you are quick enough to take my $400+ for x-rays and an exam, then after two days your practice manager can at least give me a call back. Sending a dog home in immense pain because you have no clue what is wrong with him and making that animal suffer for a few more hours is bad enough, but like I said a mistake that is excusable. Being arrogant and rude and not having the courtesy to give me a call back in two days is the business damaging in a world where the internet will provide room for reviews, googling your competition and Facebook has plenty of social connections that can make recommendations for vets that are better than the one that saw my dog that day and practice managers that have common courtesy and decency. read more

Our 14 year old yellow Lab Sophie let us know a week before Christmas that she was tired. That it was time to let her go. The end-of-life care services offered by Park Veterinary Hospital made an extremely painful decision more tolerable. We chose the home visit so that we could say goodbye to Sophie in her home. From the moment Dr. Henderson and Shelby walked in the door they offered kind, compassionate understanding. They were respectful and offered Sophie great dignity. They were patient with our upset and time needed to say goodbye. Dr. Henderson and Shelby were so very supportive and made all the difference in how we felt about our decision.
