Although I arrived with a rough draft of the obituary, Timothy helped me finalize it and select a photo. He explained about the cremation process, explained the various urns. I opted for the compostable one, as I am planning to spread the ashes. I asked about the certified Death Certificate. Timothy was very helpful. I was ready to purchase 10+, but he advised that 5 would probably be more than sufficient and if I needed add'l ones, just phone Walker's and they will order them. It turns out he was correct--5 has been plenty. He did not try to oversell in any way. He was very respectful of the grieving process. When I returned to collect the "cremains", I again was assisted by wonderful staff who helped make a sad event not quite so sad. I highly recommend Walker's Chapel Hill. She seems to have a fake demeanor and just how she speaks to family it seems condescending. When they dropped the stand and chairs off at the house not one word was spoken by her or the gentleman helping her. They make you fill out the obituary on your own instead of asking infor to do it. I have been to several services in the last 2 years and the funeral home didn't rush you or make you fill your own stuff out. Then today it was just rush rush rush and when the service at the chapel was over we waited 20 mins for the cop to arrive (I know they can't control the cops). But while we were waiting no one seemed to know what was going on this one didn't know where they were going another one had to get her phone how can they not know where the hell they are going?!?! When we got to the grave side they hadn't even had the service and she was asking do you want to stay for the casket to be lowered. I have NEVER at any funeral that I've been to been asked or seen that. I said yes. They didn't even wait for friends to leave and started lowering the casket then proceeded to have the dirt truck pull up getting ready to unload it. I didn't say we wanted to see dirt put on her and they tried to say we requested it. Who would request that!!! Why do you not at least let the family speak to the guests before doing that. When Tommy and Randy ran things it was nothing like this. For my dad's and papas we stood around talking and they didn't rush anyone they said take your time. Family could talk to people who attended before being rushed out of the cemetery because they want to leave. So unprofessional, with EVERYTHING. I do not recommend any one use them. I have no words for how I feel I am ashamed that I picked them for the amount of money they charged and how this was done is terrible. I already had to deal with the sudden loss and to be rushed is unreal. I would advise anyone to use someone else. I've heard Lancaster's is good. As for me and my family and friends we will never use Bright's funeral home again. I will make sure to let everyone I know or meet know how this place is now. After I called and left a message for Betty Bright to call me back, the manager Brian called me, he said it is normal to ask family at graveside what they want to watch. I thought a funeral was planned out from start to finish why was this not discussed all he could say was I am sorry we didn't meet your expectations. I had to fly out from California after my brother died in late March. Heather, over at the Crisis Center of the Chapel Hill Police Department, kindly provided me with a list of funeral homes. While everyone was professional, they were also almost twice as much as Knotts. And while I know it might appear unseemly to some to consider costs when it comes to planning the death of a loved one, it was less about the cost of cremating my brother than the way cremation was presented. Each person I spoke with at Knotts took their time with me. I never felt rushed nor did I feel like I was just a potential sale (as I did at a few of the others). While I will probably not need their services again, I can't recommend them highly enough. They are a small, family-owned business and it showed in every aspect of the process. Thanks, everyone.
