My ENT in Greenville, SC referred me to Dr. McElveen - Carolina Ear & Hearing Clinic for a procedure that takes cartilage from behind the ear and places the tube in which allows the tube to stay in. I would highly recommend Dr. McElveen.

In short: bad information and customer service…read more The whole story: I was referred to Dr. Clarke by my primary care provider for evaluation and treatment of tinnitus. I did some research about tinnitus causes and treatments prior to my appointment. During my appointment, Dr. Clarke's audiologist conducted a hearing test which revealed significant hearing loss. Dr. Clarke spent a reasonable amount of time speaking with me and answering questions. He informed me that my tinnitus and my hearing loss were certainly unrelated, that there were no effective treatments for tinnitus and that I would have to learn how to live with it. He stated that my hearing loss was significant enough to require hearing amplification but stated that I would need to wait 6 months to see if my hearing worsened first. I pressed him for more information because this information did not seem right to me. He finally admitted that there are tinnitus treatment centers at Duke and in Greensboro. He gave me a brochure for the program in Greensboro. I contacted the tinnitus program in Greensboro and learned that they were not covered by my insurance. I then learned that Duke was in-network for me. The difference in cost between the programs was several thousand dollars. Duke would not schedule an appointment without a referral from my doctor. So, I phoned Dr. Clarke to request a referral to the Duke clinic based on the need to save money. Over the course of 30 minutes, he repeatedly refused to make the referral to Duke. He would provide no reason for this refusal. Finally, he agreed to prepare referral paperwork but only if I would come pick it up in person. Oddly enough, this entire exchange occured via Dr. Clarke's assistant, who was relaying our conversation via instant message. When I was seen by the audiologist at Duke, she informed me that my instincts were correct. That there was a direct relationship between my hearing loss and tinnitus. She advised immediately fitting for hearing devices. She said there was absolutely no reason to suffer for 6 more months without treatment. I was disappointed that the information Dr. Clarke provided my about my condition was not consistent with current standards in the field. I was also angered by his refusal to provide me with a referral for the care I needed at a reasonable cost.

I am under the care of many doctors and medical professionals due to several chronic illnesses I…read moresuffer from. Dr. Lateef is one of the best doctors I have ever had. He is everything you would want and need in a doctor with his authentic compassion, professionalism, competency, and integrity. It is evident that he keeps up with the current literature and research within his expertise. He thoroughly explains the details of treatment and discusses them in a way that is respectful by allowing space and consideration for my input and ideas. My depression has been quite severe for all of my adult life (I am now 36 y/o) and extremely treatment resistant. I have tried more medications than you can count on both hands, went through months of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), participated in over a decade of talk therapy.. all with minimal relief. Holding a job, having healthy relationships, and enjoying a normal fulfilling life has been a constant struggle. It became even worse after developing chronic illnesses that were physical in nature. I have suffered with daily suicidal ideation for years, the feelings of not wanting to exist were constant. Ketamine infusion treatment has been the only thing that has begun to give me my life back. Just after the first infusion, I experienced an incredibly drastic shift in my mood and felt more mental clarity than I had in years. During my initial set of infusions and up until I received my first maintenance infusion, I experienced ZERO suicidal ideation. It was shocking and just simply amazing. I was able to observe and react to my feelings in new ways I had never been able to do before. I thought to myself "this must be what it's like to have normal thinking and to feel contentment." I needed my first infusion about 2 months after the initial set of 6 infusions. If you have the resources and it is determined that Ketamine infusion therapy is appropriate for you, I strongly recommend it.. you cannot put a price on peace of mind. For anyone who, like myself, has felt the dread and hopelessness that depression burdens you with, Ketamine is a game changer. I had resigned myself to never getting better. But my husband had faith in me and more importantly, he had faith in the evidence based research showing how effective ketamine administered intravenously was for treatment resistant depression. Not only does provide relief from the chains of depression but, from what I understand, it's actually healing your brain. So it's not like taking pills, which felt like the equivalent to slapping a bandaid on a constantly open wound. Ketamine has also aided in relieving my severe anxiety and OCD. It even significantly decreased the frequency and severity of my debilitating chronic migraines. I can now make occasional plans and not be worried that I will almost definitely have to cancel. I still have a lot of debilitating physical symptoms, but I am seeing the light at rest he end of the tunnel for the first time in my life. If for some reason it is determined that ketamine is not an appropriate treatment for you, I'm almost positive that Dr. Lateef will still be more than happy to discuss other options to help you find the help you need. He has taken time out of own personal time to discuss my struggles with pain management with a shoulder injury that I have. He is just the best. When a doctor becomes a doctor, they take an oath to do no harm. Dr. Lateef not only adheres to this crucial oath, he truly encompasses everything the declaration states. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Lateef and all he has done for me in helping me achieve a better quality of life.

I called another provider here in Chapel Hill, as they were so close by. I was told they would service them, as they serviced Starkey for the life of the hearing aid. Also I was told to bring my wife in, so they could better adjust the aids for her voice. They actually had no intention of helping me with my existing hearing aids, but rather, went straight into a sales pitch, and it became apparant that they wanted my wife along so they could increase the effort. I was not happy. BUT- I went back to Raleigh Hearing and Tinnitus Center as a result. The help I got there was excellent. They tested my heaing, gave me an honest reccomendation, and repaired part of the problem with my hearing aids. We ordered the remaining parts necessary to get them fully up to speed. No sales pitch. No false representation. Just solid professional assistance. I will not go anywhere else again. I can promise you that.

They do not answer the phone and they do not return calls if you leave a voicemail. If you happen to get someone to actually answer the phone, you will learn very quickly that you calling is a problem for them and they will then forward you and ask you to leave another voicemail. They do not care and you will actually hear that sentiment in their voice, clearly. It won't matter if you're cordial in every single encounter or how mannerly you behave in general. They simply do not care about resolving even the most simplistic of administrative/insurance issues. You will spend weeks battling and agonizing before you get a return call, if one ever actually does come. His office didn't bill my procedure correctly; they used my member ID but not the correct insurance. So when the anesthesiologist billed my insurance company, said company had no filing about a colonoscopy procedure actually occurring. So my insurance sees only that I had some anesthesiology services on a certain date. That alone is a $600 bill that only $108 of which was covered because there was no procedure tied to it. If my insurance company had received the billing for the actually colonoscopy along with the anesthesiology, all of it would have been covered at 1000%. My procedure was literally 7 months ago and I have fought and battled with Dr Vernon's office/billing staff. I'm now about to have to pay $492 for the anesthesiology or face being sent to collections, all because Dr Vernon's office didn't file with my insurance prior to the anesthesiologist filing. I know I gave him the correct insurance info and the proof is in the fact that the anesthesiologist successfully filed their portion of the claim. I will NEVER return to this office and whenever the subject of gastro issues/routine colonoscopy comes up in conversation, I will do everything I can to warn folks about what they'll likely face should they choose Dr Vernon. I will also be warning my PCP that he is destroying his own credibility with every referral he makes to Dr Vernon.
