Triad Stage offers the Greensboro community an exciting, professional theatre experience that usually one can only find in NYC. It has a very friendly and helpful staff and always a wonderful show for each season. If you're a student and you want to go see a show, it only costs $8 with your ID and you have to get your ticket 1hr before the show starts, so you could possibly not even get in, but it's still a fun adventure. They also offer $10 Gallery seats to all shows, but a fair warning, the gallery seats aren't that comfortable and sometimes you can get the seat that's right next to the podium railing, so it kind of limits your view. Though, if you want a great seat and you've got the cash, it's well worth it. The lobby bar also offers snacks, beer and wine, but you might want to get out there a minute before intermission starts so you can get a jump on the lines. The best thing about Triad Stage is when they premiere shows. It's always exciting when you know you're the first to see this play being performed! So, the next time you're looking for a romantic evening out and you're sweetie is tired of the movies, I bet you'll score big points when you suggest Triad Stage.

I guess Triad Stagers aren't big Yelpers because I know there are hundreds, if not thousands in the Greensboro area that would give this theater a full five stars. This theater is a center focal point for Greensboro's downtown and really was the beginning of the downtown revitalization in the early 2000's. And if you see a play here, please take the time to eat in one of the nearby independent restaurants (Liberty Oak is a favorite of patrons). But, on to the show! I've seen probably twenty plays and a few acoustic concerts over the past seven years at this theater. Most of them I love, some of them I like and a few have even left me a bit disturbed. I agree with reviewer Kate D - Beautiful Star was amazing and their version of Glass Managerie was probably my least fave production I have seen at Triad Stage. But the productions are always well done, with excellent professional actors, many brought in from the New York theater scene, and always with gorgeous sets. Side note - Triad Stage collaborates with local universities, such as UNCG to allow their students learn the trade of set design and creation. We in Greensboro are so lucky to have this theater and I encourage anyone reading this to check out at least one play here. They run plays throughout the year and about once every year or two, they feature a play written by the talented co-founder Preston Lane with music by another Greensboro marvel Lauralyn Dossett. Lane and Dossett have done three (I think) of these musical/plays to date, each one a unique and beautiful work honoring the cultural heritage of North Carolina. I highly recommend Triad Stage for live theater. I think our little hometown theater rivals any in larger cities.

Cool venue. I'm at the Upstage cabaret to listen to fiddle and bow The Kennedy's. It's relaxing place with round tables and a bar for alcoholic refreshments.

But the play of the season for us was definitely tonight's performance of Preston Lane's "Tennessee Playboy".

The Performing Arts Center hosts many events, from the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra to touring Broadway shows, concerts, comedy shows and discussions. The Tanger Center has a parking lot available for performances, and there is street parking and a few nearby parking garages. With Greensboro taking down two garages, it might be a little more challenging to find a space. When you arrive, ticket scanning and a security check are first. I am glad they finally clarified the bag policy to just one rather than three different policies. Phillips Hall is impressive with its high ceilings (3 stories) and a large glass window. It is 8,000 square feet and has porcelain staircases on both sides and elevators in the center. The concessions are in front of the window and under the stairs, so it is a shame that the architectural view is blocked. There are high-top tables in the center for your food and beverages. But I do not remember seeing any seating with the tables. The women's restroom on the first floor is large, with many stalls, extending from one side of the theatre to the other. I like that you can also see whether they are occupied or vacant. Staff have been very pleasant and helpful, from finding where you need to be seated to the Prelude Dining before performances. Seating is on three levels; the orchestra and the Grand Tier can be entered from the main level. The Loge is the balcony on the third level, and elevators are available from the lobby. I've had tickets for the orchestra in various sections, the grand tier and the grand tier boxes and learned where I prefer. It is also very easy to leave after the performances with multiple exits. The Tanger Center is a great addition to Downtown Greensboro that knows how to handle large-scale events.

Case in point at the Blue Man Group show - I was on the front row of the Grand Tier Center section. I climbed the steps (followed the signs) and showed her my ticket. She told me when the doors opened I could use that entrance, but I would have to go down all of the levels of that seating area. She suggested I use the Orchestra level entry, and then I would only have to go up the stairs once to my seat. I appreciated the advice. Audio and visual effects were top grade. Seating was comfortable, and interior had a modern yet elegant decor. Very pleasant experience.

The drinks were a little pricey, but overall a great evening. I wasn't sure how the theater was going to be put on, like a stage , but instead the actors just moved around the room and incorporated the guests into the show. It was fun and the guests were quite lively and got into it!

Table assignment and brought to the dining room. There was a full service cash bar serving anything you could need and an appetizer buffet. We got some drinks, and snacks for the buffet (cheeses, veggies, cheesy tater tots fried onion pedals) sat at our table and mingled with the other seated at our table. Actors performed within the room as we ate our 4 courses, and it quickly became unclear who was part of the show and who was just dining. It seemed there were actors planted at the tables, or where there??? The whole thing was well scripted, funny and made for an enjoyable evening. The food was delicious, I'd compare it to a nice wedding meal. Pricing may be a bit much for some, but it makes for a fun evening. I don't want to say too much and spoil anything, but I will say it was fun!
