So I purchased a Toyota Corolla 1.8 L for my 2002 from AutoZone Tri-Star rebuilt the engine when I was installing it, the engine rolled on its side, which happened to be a good thing as I saw oil leaking from the oil pan, so I pulled the oil pan off. I found metal shavings in the bottom of the oil pan so if they Dino tested it and that oil/metal shavings were running through the engine during testing, now I'm understanding why I'm seeing an oil pressure light come on my car now. My car did sit in my driveway for about a year and a half maybe two years because I was looking for a transmission and I'm trying to restore the car With new paint. I'm also hearing a valve issue which happened maybe about I'd say about a year after I put it in and I just kept driving it because it was a big headache to pull that engine. It was a lot of work man. It wasn't no easy job on the manual transmission. I had a mechanic who literally refused to pull the engine because he said that that car with it being a manual is a very hard job. He said I don't wanna mess with it. Now I'm having to pull the engine out and replace it with another engine from another supplier. I'm very disappointed in the amount of money I spent for the low quality parts and workmanship done on this engine for Tri-Star engines. I posted a review on the AutoZone app and the company sent a representative to the store to buy me a coolant oil or Any fluids I need in order for me to remove the review.. i'd say I have about 100,000 miles on it. At 60,000 miles and I had a major oil leak. I actually found one of the bolts missing on the timing cover and the other ones were loose. It got me stranded until I could put on a new serpentine belt. I had to drive back home oil was sprayed all over the engine compartment and on the serpentine belt. I kept having to throw an another belt on so I could drive all the way back to Oklahoma City from Michigan adding stress to my already hard life that I live. O'Reillys auto parts refused to warranty the serpentine belt because they said you have a major oil leak.. I also want to point out that as soon as I saw the oil leak dripping on my driveway. I monitored the oil level as it progressed so the engine never ran dry. I alway had a bottle of oil in the trunk!!! but now my oil light is on. I'm very pissed. So when I was hired I was told I would be in a supervisor role. This never happened and I would say that the main reason I would not recommend working at tristar. Is that there are a lot of broken promises. Some would call it bate and switch. There are alot of denials about what was said everyday. The same questions are given to the same production manager from say three different people. And there will be three different answers. The production manager has very little knowledge of what is going on on the production floor. Not having any idea what priorities the production machines have to keep the lines running. Several of the supervisors have been with tristar for more than 25 years. Yet they do not know how to maintain the machines. Do NOT work for this company. There are many others companies that are run better and pay better. Safety is not a number one concern to the production manager or tirstar. Many times saying well if no one gets hurt tristar is good. One half star read more

I purchased a high performance 347 stroker with AOD Trans and aftrr 1100 miles the factory dyno'd motor had a total valve train melt down. Tristar refused to warranty and or authorized repair parts. You have been warned! read more

Customer Service is deplorable. 3 year warranty a joke. Motor came from factory with subpar parts and incorrectly remanufactured pars that failed in a short period. Failures are always blamed on Install Mechanic or Owner. Don't buy one of these engines from AutoZone or any other Auto Parts Store unless you want to spend thousands in out-of-pocket expenses to repair a "warrantied" engine. I have bought 4 engines in the past 3 years from these crooks, all 4 failed, and warrantied at least once, 2 failed again, and was shorted on labor due to some lame excuse, hopefully my customers engines make it past the warranty period this time around, so I don't have to deal with the terrible "no fault" warranty" they have on their terrible products. Buyer beware, buy your engines from a reputable supplier, not these backyard engine builders. read more

I Ordered a engine 7 weeks ago and was told 5 weeks to complete the engine, but I figured with covid they were a little behind. So I called and talked to chad after 2 weeks past the complete date which Chad has given me, and was told I was on the list for him to call and say they didn't have a good core, but when I ordered the engine I asked if they had good cores and I was told yes. Also they took a full deposit 7 weeks ago. I get things happen but to have someones money for 7 weeks and receive no engine is not acceptable and being told 5 weeks till completion and not starting it till after the finish date is crazy.... poor customer service!!!!! read more

I bought a transmission through tri-star. Parts were left loose and it took my mechanic several hours to diagnose and correct. Only leaked on test drive, and not on the lift, If parts were left loose on the outside, how is the quality of the build on the inside. I received no compensation or apologies for my time and labor. Customer service was of no help, and pretty much said tough shit. read more

I like dealing with companies who stand being their products and services and unfortunately, Tri-Star is not one of those companies. After begging them to cover my rebuilt engine under warranty, it failed less than a year later. Now they refuse to cover their warranty repair. If you value your engine, keep it away from Tri-Star. read more

They told me only authentic parts go into the rebuild. Within months the new water pump goes out. It looked funny. I took pump to Subaru dealer and they said it's aftermarket from China. Tri Star said this is an exterior part and is not covered by them. 1 year later front main oil seal goes out. Seal was black in color. New Subaru seal was brown. Subaru dealer said the black seal was not a Subaru part. Tri Star would not stand by there build again. 4 months later oil pressure switch goes out. Guess what... not covered. They assured me each time I called that other than the part I was calling about everything else was authentic. read more

If anyone is considering getting an engine from Tri Star I would highly recommend it. It can sometimes be tough if you are spending a lot of money online but so far my experience with them has been fantastic! The customer support has been phenomenal and I haven't been bounced around if I had questions. 10/10 would recommend! read more
