Everyone is conversational and takes an appropriately professional interest in my personal life. 4) Soothing environment. The office is quiet, the benches are comfortable, everything is clean, and I get as many pillows as I want! One time during the electro-therapy I had a headache, and without my saying anything about it Jay noticed my wincing from the light. He dimmed the ceiling light and put an ice pack under my neck. No more headache! 5) EFFECTIVE TREATMENT. A broken tibia in the ankle area and a few ligament sprains had held me back since they occurred in March. When I started going at the end of May, I still had tons of stiffness and swelling in my ankle even 10 weeks after the injury, and I couldn't walk without a cane. Its three weeks later, and I am already feeling ready to run! I know I need to still wait and finish my treatment so I build back my muscle strength. However, the combinations of treatments, education, and teamwork provided at Empire have me extremely satisfied.

I went to this PT place twice, in March. The owner and his assistant were both kind. However, the…read moreowner's wife - who supervises the office staff (although I think she's only there once/week to go over the billing) - was AWFUL! The receptionist (a nice young woman) told me - when I made my first appointment - that the owner's wife was very concerned about payment. I told her we had *excellent* health insurance (for which we were paying an obscene amount of money) and it would cover 100% of the first eight visits (I'd already *confirmed* that with our insurance company, which is probably the most well-known in the U.S.). At the time of my first visit, the receptionist inferred that the owner's wife was very leery - but they'd made a copy of my health insurance card and therefore they had all of my information (and they could *easily* have contacted our insurance company for verification of my benefits, as anyone else would have). I thought it was quite strange for the owner's wife to behave in that manner, and I've *never* in my entire life encountered such odd behavior from anyone else at a medical office. When I went for my second appointment, the owner's wife was there. After my PT session, she strongly told me that I couldn't continue with appointments unless I paid upfront. I was livid, because they had *all* of my information. I also told her that it would take at least three months for me to get reimbursement (which I realize is the case for medical practitioners and I'm sympathetic, but a patient shouldn't have to be without the money when having *already proven* they'd receive full reimbursement). I decided not to return, since there was *no* way I was going to lay out all that money. Gradually I healed on my own, anyway - but the wife was a FOOL, because they ended up losing a lot of money when I didn't return. UPDATE (2/19/10): Donna W. (the owner's wife) has made totally FALSE statements and SHE is the one who does not "understand" the insurance situation! My health insurance paid *IN FULL* for the two PT visits - but later I was informed by my car insurance company that NYS has a ridiculous law whereby if you're injured in a public transit accident (I was injured on an MTA bus) and if you own a car, your *car* insurance company must pay your medical bills (there's obviously no connection between a bus accident injury and owning a car, but far be it for me to understand the crazy laws enacted by our state legislature). My health insurance company had already paid 100% of my medical bills (including Empire State PT), but that ridiculous law forced every medical provider to reimburse my health insurance company and to then re-bill everything to my car insurance company (!). We have a $200 deductible with our car insurance, which meant that $200 out of the *multi-thousands of dollars* would not be paid. However; I know for a fact that one of the other providers wasn't paid for part of the $200 deductible, therefore Empire State PT is NOT owed $200 (meaning, Donna W. is a *LIAR*!). Further, Empire State PT *NEVER* billed me for any balance and therefore it's an outright *LIE* for Donna W. to accuse me of not paying! And lastly, the supervisor at my car insurance company told me they'd PREVIOUSLY had a problem with Empire State PT refusing to reimburse someone's health insurance company and to re-bill their car insurance company (the same thing happened *this* time, therefore that person had to then call the *owner* of Empire State PT). That just goes to show the type of person Donna W. is (!). It should now be quite obvious why I rated Donna W's behavior so poorly (and I also find it very "interesting" that later on the *EXACT SAME DAY* Donna W. stated her [multiple] lies and I responded with the *truth*, two other people wrote a [glowing] review of Empire State PT - and to make it even *more* obvious, both reviewers had never written ANY other reviews until today). I predict that Donna W. will contact as many patients as possible to write glowing reviews of their treatment, in a desperate attempt to counteract my review. Avoid Empire State PT unless you want to contend with the owner's unpleasant and LYING wife!!

There are a few times in life when you look back and say, "I wish I did this earlier" or "why…read moredidn't I do this earlier"... going to Dr. Cano is definitely one of those times. Back in 2010-2011, I started experiencing upper back pains and after a few months of neglect I totally threw my back out. I went to my primary physician who gave me some mild muscle relaxers and some prescription Advil/Tylenol type pain management medicine. Nothing too strong but one visit and I walked out with 3 months meds. Seemed odd to me but I trusted the Doctor's opinion... I took the meds and was able to get through my days but they never corrected the root of the problem so I never went back for more. I thought "why mask the pain?". Over the next few years I would experience days where I felt okay then days of back pain. Then thankfully in 2016, I met Dr. Cano, who after only a few initial visits helped to correct the pain. In fact, for the first time in 6-7 years I had pain free days. Now I was not 100% cured but what a feeling!!! I continued seeing Dr. Cano several more times and each session I learned more and more as to why my back hurt and left each session with new stretching and work out techniques to ensure my back pain would stay away. And it has! I'm excited for my next appointment. I hope it's soon. :) Don't make the mistake of waiting. Seize the day. Make an appointment. P.S. Dr. Cano was so successful that my wife, who was skeptical at first, started to see her for her own back pains. Then she continued to see her for pre and post natal care. And now she too can't for her next appointment.

Despite a recent blizzard and freezing temperatures, I took two forms of transportation to get to the MaxHealth Center office. When I arrived, I was told I did not have an appointment. I showed Dr. Fernandez the text messages confirming it. At that point, she said she didn't realize she had agreed to see someone who is not a "frequent" patient. I had previously used her services once before. During that visit, I found her sales tactics to be aggressive and she could not really adjust my back, but I decided to give her another chance. I explained that I travel often for work, which makes it difficult to come into the office regularly. Her demeanor immediately became hostile. She refused to provide an adjustment solely because I could not commit to frequent visits and told me to "see my way out." I was in real pain and pleaded for help, but I was treated with shocking cruelty and dismissal. Thankfully, I was able to find another chiropractic practice nearby that was professional, compassionate, and willing to help. I do not recommend this provider to anyone--especially if you value professionalism, empathy, or respectful treatment. Unless you can commit to frequent visits and tolerate being spoken to harshly, I would strongly advise going elsewhere.

I have had a fantastic experience with Dr Rief and all the staff at Max Health!…read more I first went to Max Health 4 years ago after experiencing terrible neck and back pain. Initially I selected Max Health because I only go to female doctors and I was planning to see the female chiropractor in the office. When I arrived, I was told I would be seen by Dr. Rief, a male chiropractor. I was understandably surprised but agreed to speak with him. He let me know that his female colleague had an accident earlier that week and broke her arm so she would not be able to treat me. I explained my hesitations to him about working with a male chiropractor and he reassured me of his professionalism and dedication to providing good care. He made me feel safe and comfortable and so I decided to go forward. I saw Dr. Rief 1-2 times per week for several months and he helped me immensely. Fast forward to This year- I had a terrible fall in July, tore my hamstring and hurt my neck and back. I had the worst headache of my life and after visiting several medical doctors I turned to Dr. Rief and the staff at Max Health Center. Unfortunately they don't take my insurance but I pay out of pocket because it's totally worth it! What a game changer! When I first started seeing Dr. Rief in September I could not sit up or stand without experiencing immediate, excruciating, debilitating head and neck pain. I had laid in my bed for a month straight at that point it was so bad. He listened carefully to my situation and then he and the massage therapist worked on me for 90 minutes! (Game changer!) I have been going twice a week for more than a month and the difference is night and day. I am getting my life back!! Dr. Rief and all of the staff at this office care deeply for their patients and their wellness. I have never had to wait for an appointment. I have never once had to wait in the waiting room. I show up on time- they see me on time. The massage therapists are fantastic- in their care and their spirit. The staff are professional and all are a pleasure to deal with. They don't even complain when I ask for a note for my job after every appointment! Dr. Rief has changed my life twice and I am so grateful. I cannot recommend this practice enough! Go there!
