Truly unfortunate-- I thought I had found the holy grail when I happened upon Magnolia in 2016 via…read morea post from a MUA associate. I loved the colors on her complexion and, being a sucker for a good matte lippie + supporting a black woman owned business, I jumped on an order. I've since ordered from them 3x. Each time I experienced the notorious shipping delays noted in many reviews. The first 2, I decided not to get too angsty about it because I ordered during sales and tried to give a benefit of a doubt that the increased volume slowed processing down. Both of those orders arrived within a couple weeks. I noted to never order if I was in a rush BUT still deemed the product worth it. The coverage -- the shades -- the staying power were EVERYTHING. I would tag them in social media for praise and to show support. And then... this final order. 3 strikes. 1) It's arrival took well over a month. As many others, I reached out multiple times with no response. I included order info and all. Eventually the package arrived out of the abyss. 2) I open it... and find the tiniest tube of lip color I've ever seen from them. The style of tube has shifted over my 3 order and maybe the first 2 are arguably the same amount but this one clearly isn't. Yet it's the same price. I went back to their site and realize they don't list the size. Of course. 3) Ok... still my fave lippie, right? Only less. No. The recipe is noticeably different. Immediately. Noticeable worse, as if the batches are being thinner out. No matter how much I shake the tube, coverage requires multiple layers. So I'm using a ton more for one look... from a smaller tube. Late shipping + Unannounced smaller size + Lower quality product = A lost customer. 2 stars because at least I received the orders.

I was really pleased to see them at a local street festival a couple of months ago. I purchased two beautiful lip stains (ultra matte) in purple and dark red. Both look great and I love patronizing a local business. I'm bad at purchasing colors from an online shop so if I need more, I'll probably look for them at a festival again. It doesn't look like they are keeping shop hours any more.

Charging $200 for a trial is steep especially since she worked on the makeup for 45 minutes to an hour. I might have understood if the makeup ended up being amazing but I looked horrible. The correct shade wasn't used and my skin looked dry and aged. The original invoice sent to me quoted $100 for the trial. However, she charged me $200 after seeing my displeasure with the work and told me the $100 quote was actually for a hair consultation; a clear scam on their part. I've done 3 other consultations in New Orleans and no one else charged close to $200. This was by far the most unprofessional experience I've had. I've attached photos of our original agreement, as well as before and after photos of what the makeup looked like vs. what I looked like after wiping it off. I would not recommend Faces of Virtue to any bride looking for a positive and professional experience.

No longer must I fly home to get a highlights or roots touched up. Phew!! Now the salon! It's a private space so only one client at a time which is nice and quiet. I can still get work done as you don't have 8 million blow dryers and people chatting in the background. What noise?? I…read moretried to call 3 times and emailed using the contact form on the website once and received no response. I think it's because I was mentioning the Living Social deal. Finally I did get her on the phone and asked to schedule it. She said her phone, which she uses to schedule, had just ran out of power and that she'd call me back when it charged a bit. Guess what? She didn't call me back. Luckily, during the call, she'd mentioned that there was an online scheduling tool I'd somehow missed on the website that I could use to schedule. So I did. She called me the day after to confirm my appointment and she told me that "I was the last Living Social deal" she was going to accept, so don't be surprised if the voucher didn't work when I came in, but she'd still honor it. Very weird. I arrived on time for my appointment and she was running very behind, I had to wait 45 minutes for my appointment to start. I'm a busy person, so this really didn't make me happy. When I finally got to my lesson, it was much different than I thought. She applied my makeup and told me what she was doing, but I couldn't see what she was doing while she was doing it, so I feel like I lost out a lot of the value. Also, with other makeup lessons, they do one side of your faced and then you do the other side so that they can watch and coach you. She didn't do this, it would have been much better if she did. Also, I specifically told her I wanted to learn how to do my eyeliner better. At the end of the lesson, she still hadn't covered this. I kept pushing her to go over with me so she drew something on real quick and said "that's how I would do it." Um, really? It was crooked and looked terrible. I think she just wanted me out of there because she was running behind on her next appointments. Did I learn something? Yep, especially about how to apply my foundation. And she gave me some makeup I was missing to get me started, so I gave her a $5 tip to cover that, but I won't be back.
