I've never had a worst experience in a doctor's office. I was the only patient in the waiting room when I was called back. The "nurse" (I use quotations because she had no name tag and did not identify herself as a nurse) told me to step on the scale. I said, "no thank, we can skip that part." I've been declining being weighed at doctors offices for over a year. I know how much I weigh, but choose not to disclose that information with medical professionals when I did not make my appointment because of a concern with my weight. I've declined being weighed before and had no problems with my appointments. The "nurse" argued with me that I had to be weighed. When I insisted that I had the right to decline, she left the room and left the door open. I could here her talking with the receptionist about me.
Then, she came back in the room and her attitude was sour. She was sarcastic with me when I explained my reason for being there, would not look at me, and huffed as she put on her gloves. She then mumbled under her breath something that sounded like "there was a debate about seeing you." When I said "excuse me?" She exasperatedly said, "I said there's going to be an hour wait to see you." I asked her why and she said because there were other patients (the waiting room was empty). I asked why she'd called me back if I wasn't going to be able to be seen for an hour. She said "well I was going to triage you but you won't let me weigh you." As if getting my weight was the only part of me being triaged.
At that point, I could feel my panic rising. I have an anxiety disorder and suffer from panic attacks. A point I mentioned on my intake papers. I told her that the way she was acting was triggering a panic attack in me and that I wanted to leave. She followed me to the door and huffed saying "you were having a panic attack when you walked in here." I was shocked that a supposed medical professional would be so callous toward me and placed my hand on the door she was trying to shut in my face and said "wait." I wanted to tell her that she couldn't tell someone when they started having a panic attack. She slammed the door in my face so hard and so loudly that I almost went with it and had my hand crushed. The walls of the lobby shook. A Christmas decoration fell off the reception desk. My panic attack turned my fight or flight system into fight at that point and I started yelling that I wanted her name and the number to call to file a complaint. She refused to give me her name. The receptionist was fighting a smile as if she was laughing at my distress. I spoke directly to the receptionist and asked for a name and number to file a complaint. The receptionist ignored me. She wouldn't even look at me. They both refused to give me the information I needed to file a complaint against her. The "nurse" kept telling me I should just call the number I used to make an appointment. The number that would send me to the receptionist who was currently trying not to laugh at me. I asked for the nurses name repeatedly and every time I asked for her name she said "tell me how much you weigh." I said I didn't have to tell her how much I weighed. She said, "you don't have to tell me how much you weigh, and I don't have to tell you my name." Which is false. She should have been wearing a name tag and she should have introduced herself to me from the moment she called me back. I left without her name, without a number to call to file a complaint, and having paid for a traumatic experience (I had to pay my co-pay before they called me back). I went to the parking lot and had a full-blown panic attack. Retrospectively, the "nurses" behavior is even more deplorable if she honestly thought I was having a panic attack from the moment I walked in there and proceeded to still treat me so poorly anyway. I've never had a worse experience at a doctors office. I would not recommend this office to anyone. read more
