Replacing the well loved Swiss Patisserie (pavlova rolls anyone?) Trei cafe is just far enough from the main strip of Glen Waverley with ample parking making it a busy spot for locals. I have been here a few times now with different people and the food is usually good but the drinks (coffee, chai, green tea latte) have been just okay.
The food:
Pulled lamb burger - had this with the paleo bread and it was juicy and quite filling
Sweet potato fries - I really love sweet potato fries...so yes I would order this again
Spicy cauli fritters - Usually I am hesitant to get fritters as they come on huge plates with tiny portions but these fritters were filling and dense but a little on the dry side for my liking. The poached egg was nice but I didn't really enjoy my fritter with runny yolks as the fritters didn't really soak it up well and I prefer crispier fritters. I added the chorizo and I enjoyed that.
Big breakkie - just a regular A-ok big breakkie...nothing really stood out.
Paleo bread - housemade and super filling not my favourite bread but I enjoyed trying it!
The drinks:
I've had a few hot drinks here both take away and sit down and they are okay but nothing fancy. The coffee seems to be slightly burnt/too hot each time...perhaps next time I will try a smoothie.
The staff are friendly and the prices are on the moderate - high side but Trei is a good option if you want to stay local and have exhausted the Kingsway options. read more
