Brioche French toast
Sarina W.

It was the Grand Final Weekend and at 9am on a Sunday I met up with a couple of girlfriends at Mr Hendricks. My bet is that people won't be awake after the celebrations (?) last night and I was right. We got there and the place was busy but not full. We got led to the cosy indoor part of the room with 3-4 tables. I ordered a soy iced chocolate but it didn't seemed to sit well with me. I wasn't sure whether it's cos it's too sweet? Thankfully my avocado on toast with Wakame (seaweed), toasted sesame and green beans on sourdough more than made up for it. My dining companion had the famous brioche French toast which was huge! I would have ordered that as well but I didn't like the caramel sauce that goes along with the pear. I was hoping that they would change to a more springy flavour by then cos it's spring! But sadly no. That being said though, I did try a little bit of the French toast (without the caramel) and it was amazingly light and fluffy! Yum yum

Hands down best breakfast we've had in Melbourne. We had the brioche and the crispy eggs with ham, both came with lovely sides such as a crumb to give it great texture. The serving size was so generous we couldn't quite finish it between two of us (and we have huge appetites). I used to live in this neighbourhood so it's so lovely to know there's such a fantastic cafe. Finally the service was so friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be back.

Nestled in leafy Balwyn, Mr Hendricks is hands down the most popular cafe on this end of Whitehorse Rd. Don't let it's tiny but cute appearance fool you.. They have a bustling courtyard with under cover space as well as options to dine in the sunshine. Their menu will leave you torn between sweet and savoury as well as breakfast and lunch! Sip on Padre coffee while you make the tough decision. I'll keep coming back till I get through the menu... Cheers Mr Hendricks!

It's a 4.2. I'd been wanting to come here for years. Mr Hendricks has a great reputation and it's well deserved. It's well managed and has excellent food, coffee and wine and terrific service. It's quite a large place with a nice outdoor area. It does a busy trade though. The cassoulet was recommended to me and what a sound recommendation it was. Good flavours and overall a very hearty, well flavoured and tasty dish. My companions loved their dishes as well. Service was lovely throughout. A bouquet to the venue too for the Quealy pinot Gris. Always a nice drink. This is a very well run cafe which does all the fundamentals well. Recommended.

Fresh food and fresh layout. Efficient and enthusiastic staff. Padre coffee is the house blend which can leave a little to be desired, as I prefer my long blacks quite bitter, but overall impressed. Very handy local eatery!

French toast @ Mr Hendricks. Caramel, pear, raisins, lemon thyme- amazing!!

Hands down one of the best cafes in the area. I go there as often as possible. Food is consistently great, service is efficient and friendly and the big courtyard is a lovely space. I have 3 menu favs - toasted French brioche, smashed avo and the crumbed eggs. Order one of those 3 and you can't go wrong ;)

I was wondering why such a popular spot would be so isolated? But all is well worth the effort to get here. The venue is brimming with natural lighting, classic charm and warmth. For my breakfast, I ordered the Pixelated avocado (on a sourdough toast) because it just looked so darn intriguing. I didn't expect anything else to be honest, and turned out this was GOOD!! Every single element in this dish has complex flavors that compliments each other. The chili dried air kale, diced pixelated avocado and the soft shell crab was especially stunning. The dish certainly performs to its Instagram ability. For my drink, I ordered their matcha latte; it was strong tasting yet smooth. I could drink this all day! The Light Years is certainly not disappointing in any way, from the beautiful venue to the outstanding food, supported with service and ambiance for days. Easily, my favorite brunch spot in town at the moment and much to recommend you :).

Recently opened at the bottom of a new apartment block just along from the Camberwell tram depot, it should not be confused with Lights in the Attic cafe which is a bit further down Camberwell Road. The fit out is the now common scandi/minimalist affair with a smattering of potted greenery. Coffee is from Dukes, but the star of the show here is the food. All the dishes I saw coming out looked great and were good sized portions. I had the bircher and it was a generous serve, looked pretty and tasted even better. Overall a good value and tasty option for brunch/lunch in the leafy inner east.

Everything in Melbourne is just a bit samey and call me grumpy, but why has everyone accepted the fact it can take up to an hour to even get a table at most places for the same old avo on sourdough? My weekend visit to The Maling Room was such a refreshing change that i walked away feeling happy, full and wondering when I can pop by again. We were greeted by friendly staff who were quick to bring out a pretty fabulous tasting latte while I looked through the menu. The variety was great and although i ended up going for the special of warm grain salad with lamb (amazing!), the brunch offerings looked delicious. The vibe was friendly, relaxed and efficient. I was excited to finally try this place as I have been in love with their catchy name, social-media-friendly food, minimalistic design and lovely interior. We came here on a non-busy weekday, got seated immediately and ordered: * Signature Croissant Burger: First of all, presentation was immaculate and taste-wise it was just as perfect. It consists of crispy soft shell crab, chipotle mayo, smoked eel, chorizo crumbs, fried egg sandwiched in between buttery croissant. So delicious, flavor-wise and texture-wise was spot on...This made my palate dance. * Green Tea Matcha: The matcha latte arrived in a cute latte art presentation, but taste-wise it was common. The milk was too watered down for my liking, and there is just a very subtle hint of bitterness from the Matcha. * Black Latte w/ Bonsoy (Vegan): The black sesame latte caught my eyes and it performs a bit better than the Matcha. Unique tasting, although I find myself missing the sweetness and the nutty, creamy intensity that usually comes from black sesame. But plus point for creativity. Overall, White Mojo is such a breath of fresh air among Melbourne's cafe scene. Their pricing may be a little on the high side, with my meal plus 2 cups of lattes costing around $37, but the entire experience is certainly worth the price. I will most definitely be back and recommending this to you.

It had salmon tartare with avocado served on what was called a potato rosti but was in fact more of a croquette. Add to that a poached egg and caviar. The dish was slightly under seasoned but was still very nice. My partner has the roast smashed pumpkin served on toast with one poached egg. They enjoyed it too. The decor here is very smart. The staff here are terrific as well. The coffee to finish was excellent as well. Compliments to the barista. Good place. They're on top of things here.

I enjoyed the rustic decoration and laid back environment as I sipped on my chai latte that was perfectly made to suit my taste buds as the rest of the group enjoyed their coffees. For grubb we feasted on the homemade sausage roll, middle eastern eggs with bacon and a chicken wrap. Everyone enjoyed their meals and agreed we would come back to visit again.
