When I adopted a Pet Pantry cat who was living at Furever Home, I almost felt bad about taking him out of there. Food bowls, litter boxes, cat trees and toys everywhere! Zero rocking chairs! This is kitty Valhalla, at least at shelters go. I told them I couldn't compete with that many trees and toys. But what these cats need most is a home. And that part is working out well, at least in my case. This older male cat had no reason to bond with me but nevertheless, here he is as I write this, hopping into my lap and waiting for me to go to bed so he can curl up next to me.

Through the years story after story has been negative, which is so sad to hear from a rescue. I've had very good luck over the years with my rescues except for the one from La Mancha. As with others, they did not stand by their adoptions and would not take back an aggressive dog. Others have had exactly the same issues. At first glance you drive in and it looks fabulous. It is a beautiful location and seems to be a loving atmosphere filled with wonderful volunteers. I could go on with story after story, but with SO many wonderful rescues in the area (Greenmore, Lucky Dawg, Justice Rescue, All 4 Paws, Providence Animal Center, etc.) LaMancha is the last place I would ever recommend. It certainly seems much more "for profit" than a place that truly wants to help animals. Yes, I know some have had good experiences, I just know that many, including myself, did not have the great outcome we had hoped it would be.

From seeing "Scampi" on their Instagram, to communicating about her and coming in to meet her, we had a great experience. No pressure was put on us to take her home, they let us spend time with her downstairs and let us get to know her, which made us more confident in our ability to make the right decision for her and for us. Clearly we elected to take the chance and make her a part of our family - and nearly five months later, she has become an integral member of our little pack. Despite her early story being unknown and having had babies before she was taken in by Street Tails (by way of ACCT), she's seemingly a happy and healthy little one who just didn't get to live her best life soon enough. We are happy to give her just that - but we have Street Tails to thank for allowing us to be her paw-rents. I would definitely adopt from them again when we are ready to add to our fur family.

I know it can be really overwhelming or intimidating trying to find the right rescue or shelter to…read moreadopt a pet . And reading can sometimes be the only way for people to get an idea of which might be the right fit. So I wanted to share my honest review of my experience with Darlene and her rescue. I have adopted through multiple rescues in my adult life and adopting through Fur-ever paws dog rescue has been extremely positive. The adoption process was straightforward, and I appreciated that it required a minimum of 30 minutes speaking with Darlene and meeting the pup my family was interested in. Logistics: The cost of the spay/neuter was in included in the adoption fee and they don't require you to have a fenced in yard which many shelters do. This opens the door up to people in apartments or in homes that don't have a fenced in yard to be able to adopt as long as they can provide adequate exercise in other ways. Yes the rescue address is a physical home address because none of these dogs stay in a shelter. They are all dispersed amongst foster homes, including Darlene's home. Some reviews I read before adopting through this rescue. We're concerned that there wasn't a shelter with cages... I think that's incredible that she's able to provide physical foster homes for all of the animals that she rescues. The adoption fees average around $400 I've also reviews left with people expressing that is too expensive... I don't understand how people expect to adopt an animal that's a 10 to 18 year commitment that won't invest $400 into them initially. You're not only paying for the adoption fee (remember this is a non profit) but also the unique experience of your future dog having decompressed and stayed in a real home with other people being socialized and cared for. It is completely understandable If $400 is out of someone's budget but then they shouldn't be adopting a dog at this time. Dogs cost way more than that if you're caring for them properly. Especially rescue dogs within the first few months. Experience with staff and owner: Getting to meet my dog for the first time was a really exciting experience. It was clear that Darlene was very knowledgeable and really cared about my dog going to the right home. Additionally, once we adopted Archie she wanted to stay in touch and get updates and photos with his progress. Recently, I went back to drop off some donations and brought Archie to come visit. Not only was she so excited to see him, but she also bought us his favorite bag of treats and gave us a long lead for free just because she really does care. We got extremely lucky with adopting the best tempered dog I've ever had the privilege of caring for. Even though Darlene didn't create my dogs temperament, she did provide a safe environment for him. So he could build his confidence, learn to trust people, socialize with other animals people and children. It gave him a foundation so he could move onto his forever family. This is my personal experience with this rescue and the staff. I hope my honest review helps future adapters make an informed decision on whether this is the right fit for them. It was for me and my family.

I'd recommend getting there a little early, due to a good amount of pets that come, as it is first come first serve so I suggest coming a little early. We have plans to adoption another dog possibly if we can find the right personality. Plus coming from a animal sheltering background of 20+ years, I cannot pass up an opportunity to visit any animal shelter. The lady working at the front desk - Kimberly D. was so kind and super friendly! She was so nice to my daughter who loves cats and wants to volunteer at a shelter when she is old enough. The lady showed us the cat room and talked to Giana about ways she can help animal shelters even though she isn't old enough to actually volunteer at a shelter. She told us how other kids would ask for animal supplies as birthday gifts instead of the usual gift for themselves. She showed us the dog areas where we got to see the dogs. Overall, our experience was the highlight of the day and I am truly grateful for Kimberly's kindness and enthusiasm for the work that she does. I'm sure she made an impact on my daughter as well!!!

Someone dropped a kitten off in my neighborhood around Thanksgiving 2025. I posted pictures on Ring…read more, Facebook, spoke to neighbors and friends. It was friendl, yet would take off after being fed. Finally, by January 2, 2026 I was able to put her in a crate and drove to the nearest Human Society (no available space). I then took her to the next closest Brandywine Valley SPCA. They took her right in! AMEN. I have 2 indoor adopted cats and we care for 2 fixed outdoor feral cats. I pray her owner finds her or she gets adopted to a great family

I took a very sick cat there Saturday n they wouldn't even see her. Funny thing is after having them spay n neuter these 23 cats I feed they were returned in filthy cages w multiple empty cans n poop smashed everywhere and they cats were all sick. I've treated them twice for upper respiratory infection but it didn't clear up. They never wormed them as they said they did n never came back w any records . Out of the 23 they spayed n brought back sick there's 8 left. The one they refused to see is suffering because she can no longer urinate n the only thing she can move is her eyes. Made a appointment with Faithful friends to do a small Mass removal on my small dog. I dropped her…read moreoff when I went back to pick her up at 4:00. The vet that worked on her came out and told me after he closed her up the first time she was still bleeding real bad. He had to go back in and put her to sleep and open her up the second time. So I had to sit and wait an extra hour for her to wake up off the anesthesia. When they brought her out to me they had her in some kind of suit. The lady was carrying her and she said it was a space suit. She said she would carry her to my truck and they had raped her and she told me to take the bandages off. When I got home that night I took the bandages off. I couldn't believe my eyes. I never seen anything so bad in my whole life. She was so swollen and bruised in between. Her two back legs was so swelled. They look like giant blood blisters. They gave me enough meds for 7 days and and said rest. I stayed with her in my bedroom around the clock and kept icing her down. When I called and said how swelled she was that's what they told me to do after a week and a half bleeding had never stopped. It wasn't real bad thick drops but steady and then it got a little worse and he told me to put a Band-Aid on her so I was using big band needs. Every time I took one off it was so filled with blood. I couldn't believe it. So I took. I called and said she was in pain and I need it more medicine. I'm still thinking well. Some swelling went down and don't look as bad. I was praying she'd be okay. They told me I would have to bring her in to get the medicine so I did why there? I told him bleeding never stop. Is she bled on their floor where I was sittinI told the lady at the receptionist she went and got a mop and mopped it up. They gave me more meds and told me the same thing. Rest and I left within 21 days from surgery to the day she bled out and died in my arms. I left another review. It would be the first review and I put pictures with it but it looked like things were changed around and it was set so I added it and I'm rewriting it now. I don't know if They'll let me post pictures to show you how bad it was. I called there said I would like to talk to the vet that did the mass removal on my dog. She passed away and they said they were so sorry and they would have him call me a week. Maybe a little over a week later. He called. I told him you went in twice. You had to do something wrong the first time for her to bleed like that for you to go back in the second time. He called me delusional and asked me can I prove it? I got pictures of before I brought her there and look great and I got pictures when they were done with her she looked so bad he had to know something was wrong for him to opened her up twice. He just prolonged her death. She suffered for 21 days before her passing. He told me the second time he went in. He tied everything off and she'd be okay. Just rest and medicine from surgery to the day she passed was exactly 21 days. I googled it about if a vet opens the dog up twice and it told me that yes that's not good. I experience that should know better and if she died within 21 days that's why she died because she was opened up twice. If you would have just told me the first time before he opened her up the second time because everybody makes a mistake that he hits something and couldn't stop the bleeding and had to know she was going to pass away. He just let her suffer. I would have just had her put down so she didn't suffer. I am very hurt that he has denied anything to do with her passing. I'm very mad. He opened her up twice. Never asked me. Could he go back in twice or did I want him to go back in? He just did it on his own. I lost my best friend my companion. She was all I had. She went everywhere with me and did everything together. She is very missed. I'm lost . and he still hasn't taken responsibility for what happened to her. I believe he's mean and selfish and knowing she was going to pass and he let her suffer for the 21 days. All I've done is cry. I can't believe I took her for a small Mass removal to make sure she was okay and I was so happy to go get her and then he came out and told me he had it open her twice and when I took her him and seen her it was the worst thing I've ever seen in my life. I had to watch my dog suffer for 21 days. Why he was in denial until her death? Dr Quin did the surgery I'm not from PA in from Newcastle Delaware.
