Lostwood Stables - What the barn really looks like... Always swept and items are kept off the ground

I have boarded here. All the negative reviews of this place are true. I was initially impressed…read morewith the improvements to the property the new owners made. But soon realized that, aside from the cosmetic changes, they had little to no knowledge of how to run a horse boarding business or even care properly for horses. While I was there a horse suffered a very bad colic because the staff had fed it grain in the morning with no hay or water and left it locked in its stall nearly all day. I saw horses get loose from paddocks and the main pasture several times because the gates either did not close correctly or the help had forgotten to close them. Another horse had it's face torn open on a gate with large metal bolts left exposed and not covered or capped. Full care boarders were forced to clean their own stalls and empty water buckets regularly because the help did a poor job or did not do it at all. Feedings, if they included supplements or special instructions, were rarely done as instructed. The staff would dump whatever amount of hay and grain they felt like and gripe about the "high maintenance owners" and disparage their horses. I personally witnessed this. In addition to the dangerous conditions and ignorance, there is more drama, gossip and petty back stabbing at this barn than I have ever seen in more than 10 years of horse ownership. Caveat Emptor.

We boarded there and were looking at buying a saddle from Kai, the owner and while trying to negotiate a price, he called my daughter a barn rat. There was also a lot of insanity around him not allowing people to leave with their horses once disgusted by his terrible manners. Literally tried blocking the exit until people threatened to call the police to remove their own horses! This man is unhinged, very unprofessional, and extremely rude.

Arrived for our first lesson on a Sunday afternoon....no-one at office…read more. no one around except other riders...ask a rider, young man, where we were suppose to go. He directed us thru two barns to our instructor. She was nice , a little rough. but nice. She told our daughter to go pick a hat. What?! We had NEVER ridden english and had no idea what we were suppose to be looking for. But we picked one, which ended up being to big. She had our daughter get on, now our pony looked like a underfed old barely able to stand older pony. I felt very sorry for the little thing. We were lead around the entire barn area twice...then taken to the covered arena , where another lesson was being conducted and I think we intruded. After about 3 times around our instructor told our daughter that she had another student and she needed to get off. I was very very put off from this experience. I guess the western world is a little more friendly....or perhaps I chose the wrong English place for our first lesson. Needless to say I canceled our camp reservation. I think I can do as well as they did. I do NOT recommend this place.

For my birthday, my husband surprised me with an Adult Ride and Groom lesson, and it genuinely brought me to tears. I had such a wonderful experience, and everyone at the barn was incredibly welcoming. The horses are clearly well cared for and happy to interact with visitors. The barn itself is cozy and conveniently located in the heart of Richardson. It's exceptionally clean, and each horse has its own tools and grooming set, which I really appreciated. Over time, we've celebrated birthdays and hosted gatherings with friends at Windmill. We've even done photo shoots there, and I've booked a trail ride for my mom. The barn frequently hosts its own events as well, offering fun festivities throughout the year. Windmill provides endless possibilities and is always willing to accommodate new ideas or activities. We've loved every experience we've had there and are excited for all the events and opportunities still to come.

The entire facility is very well maintained and clean! You can tell the horses are well cared for! 10/10 would recommend
