Lessons in both Western and English riding style are available although it seems most of the students there prefer Western. The owner is an amazingly wise woman and all the instructors are absolutely magnanimous in imparting their knowledge & expertise. The best part is the actual horses cos they are the coolest & most well-trained horses EVER! Whether the rider is on a quarter horse or an Arabian, their confidence and skill will develop quickly with their adapt cooperation. Even the older horses can take you on the ride of your life. Be. Retired. In 5-10 lessons 6 days a week. If a horse goes lame, the throw it in the pasture and forget about it. Even just driving by, the horses in the pasture have overgrown hooves, sunken in spines, and halters on that have been there for years. The training wasn't bad but it's definitely a beginner barn as most riders start to realize that the way they overwork their horses is unethical.

Located on a beautiful facility just south of downtown and operated by the best saddleseat instructors in town. I had ridden American Saddlebreds as a child and had no idea that Foster Farm was just up the road. It is the only Saddlebred farm in the downtown area and they are filled to the brim with championship riders and beautiful show horses. Giving your child the gift of horsemanship is irreplaceable and I highly recommend Foster Farm as a starting point. The trainers specialize in starting young and aren't afraid to teach little ones. And they can carry riders all the way up to championship status. It's an incredible sport, unique, and so very different than many other disciplines out there. The facility has gorgeous trails as well if you're interested in that! I can't say enough about Nicole, Stephanie and Hugo - the Foster Farm family is the best place to ride in Dallas.

Overall, I enjoyed being at TVR, but there are a lot of things that need to improved and I got…read moretired of waiting. People: Best barn family ever! All the boarders are super nice and friendly and encouraging. Ace Equestrian is great! Kourtney and Alex are awesome! Water: Automatic waterer, in the stalls, only get cleaned 2x/week. They are never disassembled and deep cleaned and the inside can get pretty gross. Pastures: For most horses, your options are small private paddock with no grass or hay or huge pasture with lots of other horses. The pasture fence is barbed wire, is some areas and is not in great shape all the way around. (If you are touring the barn, make sure you walk through the wooded area of the pasture.) Stalls: only cleaned 1x/day. If the horses stay in, you can smell the ammonia in the stalls. (Many boarders come in the evening and clean their horse's stall.) Loose Animals: Be prepared for goats to run between your horse's legs while you are tacking up in the cross ties. Don't leave anything out, unless you want goats to chew on it. The donkey also roams loose everyday and no one bothers to put him back. Dogs are not required to be on a leash, so it is no uncommon to have a dog race down the barn aisle. Hay: occasionally the horses are skipped for a feeding, if they run out and the hay delivery hasn't come yet Arena: The indoor arena is typically watered between 9am-10:30am, but there is no official set time. Even if people are riding in the arena, they will turn the sprinkler on. About 1/3 of the indoor arena gets so muddy you can't safely ride on it. Facility: The lounge and bathrooms are really nice. The new footing in the outdoor arena is much better than it was before.

They lied about the horse I bought from them - they said they got him from a cowboy down on his luck, but he actually was an auction horse. They told me he could go all day, and he went lame 6 weeks after I bought him, costing me THOUSANDS of dollars in specialist vet fees. Counting the price of the horse, I lost over$10,000 with my purchase. And then there was the boarding... I boarded my horse there for a couple months after I bought him, and his care was abysmal. There were so many flies that he got infections in both of his eyes from the flies laying eggs in them (according to my vet). They told me they'd administer his meds, but they didn't. My horse colicked from heat and dehydration (according to my vet) - there was NO clean water in the pasture. The pasture was a bunch of weeds with rusty old farm equipment where the horses could easily access. It flooded any time we had a heavy rain. The stalls were often dirty, and the barn often smelled of urine. There were so many rats in the barn; you could see them both day and night - even in my horse's hay bin. I could go on and on. The Pyrenes dog they had running lose all the time bit me and other people, and they never did anything about it. All of this for over $1000 a month in board fees. Do not just stay away - RUN AWAY from this barn.
