My son attended 1 week of their science camp last summer (when he was 7 years old) and I wish I had signed it up for more. He absolutely LOVED it! As my son would tell you- When you walk in to the Mr. Science lab you will feel like you're walking onto the Bill Nye the Science Guy set. What he has set up here is absolutely amazing! And his program is fantastic!! By far, out of ALL the different programs and activities my kids have been involved in throughout Brevard County, this program provides the BEST balance of value, entertainment, and professionalism! Ultimately, after speaking numerous times with the staff at Camp Shane, I ended up making one of the hardest decisions of my life as a mother - sending my daughter over 1000 miles away from home to attend Camp Shane for 6 weeks. When I saw my daughter after her time at Camp Shane, I realized this was actually the BEST decision of my life. My daughter lost more than the average weight they advertise - over 30 lbs in 6 weeks! She was completely transformed not only physically, but emotionally. She was happy, healthy and more confident than I had ever seen her. Last year, I sent my daughter back to Camp Shane - this time to the Florida location. She expressed an interest in strengthening her skills and re-teaching herself some of the healthy habits she learned at Camp Shane. It's safe to say that she had the same amazing summer camp experience. Pick up at the end of the summer was so emotional for everyone. My daughter, her best friend, other campers, the counselors and myself were all crying. When you send your child to Camp Shane they'll gain friends for life, not only in their peers, but their counselors and the staff as well. We high tailed it to the school in our cold weather clothes because we were on our way to the airport but decided to take a small detour. We did the "semi private" lesson which consisted of my friend and I. The $45 price tag included all the gear including the wetsuit and board. It was completely worth it! We had a quick safety lesson then our instructor, Josh, took us out to the beach. We could not have asked for a better day to learn. Both my friend and I were up standing and riding the waves in no time. This was a miracle considering my lack of upper body strength. Josh also made sure we felt safe the entire time and gave us some really good tips. We had the best afternoon and the spontaneity turned out to be one of the highlights of our vacation! We reviewed the parts and functions of the sewing machine and then worked on a small project.
