I would like to start by saying that this was easily, hands-down, the best beer festival I've ever…read morebeen to (and this ain't my first rodeo). For me, personally, it was amazing for a few different reasons. There was the game element (yeah, nobody knew what they were drinking until after 7 p.m.; the event started at 4), the fact that beer is, indeed, a social lubricant (leading to so much good conversation with strangers), great food, music, games, proximity to 10 Barrel and some of the best beer-appreciating folks in Boise. To begin with, the tastings were divided into four (or was it five?) states, but were only identified as "State 1," "State 2," etc. Each tap was assigned a number, so you had a lot of folks running around and asking each other, "Did you like 19?" "No, but 17 was incredible!" At first glance, I thought this was a lame gimmick. Boy, oh, boy, I couldn't have been more wrong. It kept us interested and forced us to really taste each beer thoughtfully. Not to brag, but wifey and I guessed #1 (Ballast Point's Grapefruit Sculpin), which meant we knew State 1 was California. We also totally called the fact that State 3 was Oregon, with its piney, citrusy, almost juicy hops. This was an IPA-lover's dream-come-true. It was so epic and beautiful, and I'm really just talking about the beer itself. Next, the company we found ourselves in was seriously epic. As we entered, a gentleman (purveyor of Sandpoint's own Pour Authority) approached me and asked if I was from Portland, since he saw my Rogue t-shirt with the silhouette of OR state on it. This led to a lively conversation about beer across the PAC NW and an invitation to sample at his establishment. I really appreciated how he continued to check in with us, provide recommendations and feedback, and generally share in the friendly company of he and his wife. We also met Nick, a beer enthusiast who'd already been to the Oktoberfest that day (it was a little lame, apparently) and who spoke to us about the tribulations of being a seriously-beer-loving parent and also Star Wars films, new and old. My wife and I, who met at Whittier College, met a gentleman who attended during two of the years we were actually there. I met a fellow Caldwell School District employee that I'd never met before, and in that way got to "network" a little bit (nice to meet you, Ms. K). I cannot overemphasize how friendly and genuine these people were. Of course, there were the obligatory "grown ass" adults (yes, men and women) who were fine with cutting in line. Remember fourth grade, guys? "No cuts, no butts, no coconuts." However, you have these people at any beer festival and I'm sure they're already aware that there is a special circle in hell for people who cut in line. Overall, it was an outstanding experience and the single best-organized event I've ever attended in the state of Idaho, which includes the gigantic Barley Bros. beer fests that used to take place at Anne Morrison and Kleiner Park. The food looked great (sorry, we'd eaten beforehand, but there were finger steaks, pulled pork sammies and pizza by the slice); the staff was incredibly friendly, helpful and funny; the event was just seriously well-coordinated. The beer was amazing; we didn't dislike a single thing we tried and pretty much loved most of the brews. Maybe the most underrated part of this event was the cost: $5 for a glass (not the crappy, plastic ones we've received at other festivals, but a legit tulip glass with the odd Beer Wars guy logo) and $1 per 4 oz. taste! That equates to a $4 pint, a good deal anywhere for craft deliciousness, and you don't have to drink like a fiend. My wife and I actually split all of our tastes, so we could try everything and still make it home. I wish this was a regular event, so I could say, "Check it out!" I can only hope this happens again next year, but at that time, I won't be recommending you go (more beer and open space for me). Ten Barrel, I salute you and your crafty ways.

What a fantastic venue for Candlelight by Fever! Everything from the acoustics for the quartet to…read morethe glimmering candles surrounding the musicians. There's no bad seats but I prefer the mid level to upper level for the view of the lights. Musicians were fantastic and even had a good sense of humor announcing the next set and each other. Then the music.. it was cool to see all ages, young and senior citizens toe-tapping and head bobbing and a few singing along to the iconic tunes. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the musical choices...Abba to Queen to the Beatles...a great date night idea and relaxing event!

It was my first year and based off past reviews, it definitely isn't what it was in years past. No corn field One food truck Two big inflatable slides 1 tarot card reader 2 mazes 1 immersion experience-$10 extra The execution felt sloppy and unfinished. It has a very "carney bootleg" vibe. It didn't feel like a highly stage crafted production. On the website they make it seem like it's a complete event, with things to do beyond the maze. There was not. Here is the silver lining, the two mazes ( Asylum and clown) were descent. A lot of jump scares and a few cool features(vibrating floor and loud horns). The actors did a good job of interacting and really are the heart of the experience. Is it worth $30? Umm, that's debatable. I'd probably say it's close to $20. Bottom line it's not as bad as people make it seem in other reviews, but it certainly isn't as good either. I made the most of it with my group and we had a good time getting scared. I probably wouldn't go back next year unless there was a complete overhaul. Pro tip: You don't need VIP/Express, save your money. Longest wait for me was 20mins(7pm time). You can buy your own ticket at the door. You'll save on fees Even though you have a online ticket, you have to stand in purchase line to get a paper ticket that's taken at the front of maze.

We drove 45 minutes to Boise, booked a hotel room, and planned our weekend around this show. One person in our group even used the rest of their vacation hours specifically so they could attend this concert. Because those were their remaining vacation hours, we chose this show over another concert the following week, assuming we'd at least get to see the artist we had planned for. When we arrived, we were completely confused. Instead of the electronic DJ So Down, there was band called So Down Boise playing. We actually stayed for a while because we thought maybe the DJ was still going to perform later. Eventually it became clear that the artist we had paid to see wasn't there at all. I understand that mistakes happen. But when a venue advertises or sells tickets for the wrong artist, the right thing to do is make it right. We didn't stay for the show because it wasn't the event we purchased tickets for, yet we were told we couldn't even get a refund. At that point, it wasn't about the $14 ticket. It was about the gas, the hotel, the time, and the vacation hours that were used for a concert that never happened. We put our home renovation projects on hold to make the trip. It doesn't sound like much but we literally had photos scheduled the following day for the sale of our home. Had we known the advertised artist wasn't actually performing, we would have skipped this event and gone to the show the following week instead. Instead, we ended up missing both. A simple apology and a refund would have gone a long way. Instead, we were left feeling like no one cared that we had spent our time and money on an event that wasn't what was advertised. That's incredibly disappointing and not how customers should be treated.

We loved Lowe Family Farmstead so much last year that we bought a season pass this time around…read more It's such a fun atmosphere and there's so much to do if you really soak it all in. Luckily, we live fairly close so there have been a few times this season my husband and I would just stop in for dinner, walk around, and leave. Now, I will acknowledge that it may not be the cheapest option. But we picked up a few gift cards from our local Costco and used them to buy both of our season passes AND food. The season pass also comes with a coupon book that we use almost every time. So if you need a money saving hack, there it is! We also learned about Dog Day this year (since pups aren't normally allowed at the farm) and it was so much fun! Our favorite little food spot is The Smokehouse. You can catch us with a Cowboy Potato and Roasted Corn almost every single time. The only downside is they're not open during the day. My husband also loves the apple cider donuts from the Orchard Stop. Everyone is so friendly and it's such a fun vibe. I definitely recommend checking it out. I wish the season was more than just a couple of months.

This is a main attraction and must visit in Boise. It's central to most things so you can walk by…read moreit on your way to other exploring. My best friend and I had a great time exploring these alleys and seeing fun murals by different artists. It's free to visit. We parked in front of the coffee shop we were visiting that morning and walked over with our drinks. There were a lot of folks taking photos with the murals. I loved that it felt like the longer you looked the more you found. I'm glad we went!

Freak Alley Gallery is literally an alley tucked between buildings in downtown Boise, filled with…read moregraffiti, murals, and while we were there, what appeared to be a makeshift dragon sculpture that an artist was displaying as a temporary installation. The alley is not necessarily something I would make the destination, but it's definitely a cool little spot to visit if you're already in the area. It's a free open air museum of curiosity. It's a very short walk, and the buildings provide quite a bit of shade, so you're not necessarily being hit by the sun the whole time. It's perfect for passing some time while waiting for something nearby, walking off a meal, or, in our case, killing some time before heading to an escape room. One of the things I found most interesting was the history. Near the beginning of the alley is a piece that documents many of the events and dates associated with Freak Alley over the years. It gives you a sense that this isn't just random graffiti--it's been an evolving space for artists to express themselves for years. There's still wall space available, so I imagine the gallery will continue changing as new murals and artwork are added. In that way, it feels a little like an outdoor museum that's never completely finished. Not necessarily a "go to Boise just for this" attraction, but definitely an interesting little detour and something worth walking through while you're downtown.

And did I mention the yoga between lavender rows?!? There's 8 different varieties of lavender growing, which is quite impressive! I'm definitely watching out for their future events! The owner is delightful, the place is peaceful- & great location- surprisingly just a few blocks from downtown Eagle! It looks like they are open to private events & photo shoots too. I like their slogan: "Come for a bundle (of lavender)...stay for the food, music and more." Note that aside from during their events, they are appointment only, so just contact them before showing up. I'll be back! (And yes, yes I did inhale their lavender fudge...)
