I contracted with Tree City to do landscaping about 21 months ago for my new home in Blue Ridge. I wanted no maintenance and lots of ground cover. I especially asked that my property not be over landscaped. What did iI get anything but what I asked for and wanted. Ill admit that i signed off on it, I however am not real knowledgeable about plants and had no clue that this business wasn't trustworthy. I'm quite certain that neither owner is a master gardener and truthfully seem to have limited at best knowledge of landscape design. I'm again in the process of having my property plowed up, excavated and properly planted for minimal maintenance. Unless you are very knowledgeable about landscaping and design avoid this place. read more

Edit: Reducing this rating to 1 star after owner Pam delayed replacing 22 dead Rhodies (died a month after planting) so long that she now claims are out of warranty and not her problem. I reported it within warranty and made the mistake of letting her put off replacing them, now she's flat out lying that I never drove to her shop and told her they'd died. Never mind multiple emails and phone call records, sadly now I'll have to take her to small claims court to get my money back. Spent five figures, half the plant material died, begging for six months to get replaced under warranty.  Hate writing this because I'd rather buy from a local business but going forward I'll get my plants from Home Depot. Problems: 1. Dishonest owners. 2. Diseased plant material, and also trees containing kudzu were planted in my yard and introduced kudzu that I then had to battle to kill. So they're buying from crappy suppliers. 3. When they've planted trees, half of them lean sideways. That's lack of attention. 4. They refuse to remove the burlap off the rootball and they also soak the root ball in fertilizer, this is the opposite of how someone who is TRAINED in gardening (i.e. Master Gardeners and people with actual landscaping and ag education) plants. You have to remove the burlap and then fertilize after planting, outside of the rootball on the drip line, to encourage the roots to stretch out. Pouring fertilizer on a burlapped root ball not only keeps the plant from establishing, you can chemically scortch the roots. 5. I had to stop them from planting a line of bushes along the drive because they didn't bother using a tape measure and were eyeballing the spacing and it looked like crap. They are simply not good with the details when they install. read more

About six rhododendron bushes from tree City. All six of them died. I was told just out of luck. I know when you buy from Lowe's they will handle if a bush dies. I am not sure what went wrong but depending upon who you talked to you get different answers. read more

I contacted Tree City to do a landscape plan for my newly built home with hopes that they could help me. We had an appt At 1:30 and when the time came they did not show up. I called and they said someone was supposed to call me and could they come at 4:30 they had gotten a huge shipment in. (No one had noticed me) . The owner came out and we walked through the property and she said it would be about 10 days before the plans would be ready. A month later no word so I called and have left 2 messages for the owner to call me and I still have not heard back from them. Guess they don't want the business. Very poor! read more

We had extensive landscaping done 1 1/2 year ago. ( approx. $5500.00) Last spring a few of the plants were dead after the very mild winter. This spring approx. 18-20 of the plants will need to be replaced. My azaleas haven't bloomed in 2 seasons. Initially there was a drainage issue ( despite Tree City adding a French drain lined with river rock) and it took several phone calls and a visit to the nursery to have them come out, fill in the area with dirt, and re-mulch. I hired Tree City to plant several trees in my yard. They put the wrong trees in the wrong place. Two trees still wobble in the holes they were planted in after two years. No amount of messages ever got returned, nor do they won't answer the phone. I tracked them down on a job site despite the promises to fix their mistake, they still would not correct their mistake. Once they have your money they are through with you - they don't back up their work. Save your money and avoid a frustrating experience. Go somewhere else. read more

Last fall had 32 trees and shrubs installed, they all have survived.Great selection and installation.

We purchased three trees from Tree City over a year ago and watched two of them die within 6 months. They were large trees and cost close to $1000 to buy and install. One was damaged upon arrival or being installed. We contacted Tree City via several emails and sent pictures and did not receive any response. I called multiple times as well and soon realized I was putting a thoughtful employee in a very uncomfortable position. I did continue to call regarding how to keep the trees alive as we watched them start to die. We followed all of the advice given, however within 6 months they were dead. We left them in our front yard for about 6 more months. We found out it was a very helpful way to let folks know of our poor experience with Tree City. We recently purchased two replacement trees from Buck Jones nursery and the service and warranty there appears exceptional. We, like another reviewer, wanted to support a local business. What an expensive mistake that was! read more

I found the owner, daughter and employees to all be the upmost professionals - knowledgeable about plants and uses. Their plant choices are amazing, interesting and some very different than you can find anywhere. Bought thousands of dollars in trees and plant material they planted, for very inexpensive prices. Love this place and would recommend to anyone. (And I am a very picky plant person and gardening is my passion). read more
