DREADFUL! Having eaten here a number of times, in the past 3 months or so this place has really hit the buffers! When my partner and I first went it served reasonably good quality meats and veg (carvery) however our vist last weekend will be our last. The turkey was dry as a bone, the gammon nothing but fat & grease and the beef tastless. Coupled to this, the veg was cold and had obviously been sitting there all day as a skin had formed on the creamed leeks and the carrots were curling-up at the end....and they were the only 2 veg on offer that looked even remotely edible! The gravy which was also stone cold was so weak that it effectively 'waterlogged' everything on the plate. We asked for our luke-warm meals to be heated in a microwave which the waitress did but by the time they came back, we had given up the ghost. Upon leaving it was significant that the waitress didn't even bother to ask if the food was OK (I assume she worked it out for herself or has eaten there herself). A pub that boasts the best carvery in Derbyshire seved until 8pm. We went Sunday at 5pm - party 15 booked for birthday suprise - told sorry no meat left. Ordered from other menu 3 lamb shanks (acceptable) 2 lasagne (acceptable) 2 meat pies ( acceptable but told they were meat & potato ),2 chicken looked lost on plate and accompagnied with only 2 or 3 mini potatoes, 3 fish and chips but with only a few chips sent back for more came back with more chips but cold so sent back again, 3 sirloin steak well done one sent back ( rare ) one uneatable (gristle) again chips but hardly any on. Asked for diet coke at the bar nearly all water you could see through it had to complain to get it changed. Dont know what the carvery was like which was why we went there in the first place. SACK THE CHEF & MANAGEMENT but keep the poor waitresses who had to take the flack. Promised 3 meals and half sweets cost would be deducted from bill - on checking only one fish & chips was. a pub with great decor , good drinks and service . Thats where the good comments stop. The food was appalling , the cavery was not worth half the money they charge, the pork on the cavery was fat rolled with stuffing in the middle, there was a limited selection of veg to go with it and what was there was cold. The portions of menu meals were small and not fresh. From this visit i can understand why the pub less than 1 mile away is always busy as it is half the price for a lot better meal. Went on a Friday night, was shown to the table at 8.00pm, ordered 2 drinks + 2 carvery's. Had to wait 10 minutes for the drinks + by 8.25 still had no food. There was only half a dozen people queuing for food. when we asked a member of staff if we could get ours she said we had to wait and she would call us. I told her not to bother + I would just pay for the drinks. They don't seem to be organised at all, utter rubbish. We'll stick to Toby Carvery!! read more

3rd and last visit.Monday night and pretty quiet(wonder why). Waited over 40 mins to order food,it eventually came and 3 of party got up for carvery,yorkies rock hard had to take back,ordered 4 more drinks waited 30 mins,table checked after all meals finished then plates not cleared,no one asked if we wanted desserts. Not what you would expect when paying those prices,pear cider £4.05 ridiculous".never again read more

My wife and I have eaten here on several occasions and always found the food and service to be excellent. The only slight down side is the atmosphere, which is mainly down to the size of the establishment read more
