While exiting the parking lot, we glanced over and saw a parking lot full of cars and a sign stating "Great Harvest Bread Company." It was like a mirage since we were starving and arguing on which greasy joint we were going to end up with. We followed our eyes and noses into the bakery with shelves of freshly baked bread loaves. Everyone gets a free tasting chunk of bread straight from the cutting board. While they don't technically sell lunches (like sandwiches), they do have delicious hot soup combos that come with a slice of bread. My top three bread picks are the Cheddar Garlic, Honey Wheat (all whole wheat bread with a hint of sweet honey), and Apple Crunch. No matter what you choose, you can't go wrong! They also sell fabulously large cinnamon swirls, freshly baked dog treats (obviously much harder than the human bread) and organic granola. If you live nearby, get a stamped card to earn a free loaf after 9 item purchases. Oh and say 'hello' to the fun, knowledgeable and talkative lady who greets and helps you right when you enter the door.

What a glorious cheese shop out in the Wisconsin countryside! The retail shop is small but is packed with a diverse array of options. Eau Galle produces a lot of their own cheeses, especially ones in Italian styles, but the shop also hosts many cheese from across Wisconsin and abroad. Most tend to be firmer cheeses like cheddars and goudas, with few soft rinds and young blues. There is also cheese-themed home decor and apparel, and lots of accompaniments for cheese like jams, pickled vegetables, honeys, and many sausages. This is a perfect place to put together a gift basket for someone who enjoys good food! Oh, and there is alcohol, too, requisite New Glarus packs, local ciders, and wines. Fudges and candies offer temptation right at the checkout. The cashier was friendly and helpful. This is definitely a place that I hope to return to soon!

Some of the staff here, my first time in, were a bit rude and dismissive, but every time since has been really warm, welcoming, and nice even from those same exact people. I think number one is two things but both equally the most important. You'd expect a local butcher to be quite expensive but the prices here are only about 1 dollar more than the grocery stores in the area. The other thing, also which you'd expect but would be correct in this case, is the quality of meat being WAY BETTER. This is some of the best meat I've ever cooked with and just tastes, smells, and looks so much better. I always come in for more ground beef and end up coming out with a bit more (usually at least some jerky). Truly a great place! The really amazing thing is that you can see and smell - not just taste - the difference. Store bought ground beef is so greasy and seeps out that nasty thick brownish liquid when cooking it, this doesn't, it also has a smell, this doesn't smell like anything but meat. Really great!

The farm store is very simple and clearly focused on their products. They are open 8am-8pm - and if nobody's around, there's a drop box for order forms and cash. That said, there were people when we arrived and they couldn't have been friendlier! Bonus - this is not far off the highway so it makes for an easy pit stop if you're driving through.
