The views are breathtaking from start to finish, and seeing the glacier up close with Nugget Falls cascading beside it is something you won't forget. Money-saving tip: Skip the expensive excursions and take the Juneau Capital Transit bus from downtown to Dredge Lake Rd., which is the closest bus stop to Mendenhall. From there, it's about a 1.7-mile walk to the Visitor Center, followed by an easy 1.5-mile round-trip hike to Nugget Falls. The trail is well maintained and suitable for most people. The bus costs just $2 each way. Be sure to bring exact change or download the Token Transit app from the App Store to pay your fare. The bus system was easy to navigate, and we had no trouble figuring it out. In my opinion, this is one of the best values in Juneau. You get the same incredible glacier views and unforgettable experience that many people pay hundreds of dollars for on organized excursions. If you're comfortable walking a few miles, this is absolutely the way to do it!

Note that this is a flat and easy trail with about 50 percent of it being boardwalk and the other half being stone. The trail starts at the end of Evergreen Street (close to the crossing of Pine). If you so choose, you can hop off the trail and weave your way back to downtown. Along the trail you'll see snowcapped mountains, waterfalls, a river and lush rainforest-like surroundings. Ah! Breath in the fresh Alaskan air! Free entertainment! This was definitely one of the highlights during our time in Juneau.

It was a beautiful morning! We immediately headed to the loop trail. We appeared to be the only ones there for at least an hour as we walked to various observation decks. We made it to the 3rd one before deciding not to make the climb up to Father Brown's Cross. I think we could have done it, but the trail started getting a bit more rugged as it made that turn upward. I could see the cross, but as I was saying earlier... we were the only ones up in that wilderness. I was concerned about what we may find. Lol! The views at each observation deck were stunning. The air is so fresh up there. We saw all kinds of birds flying around. I did see a family of Robins. I'd never seen one before, and they are bigger than I thought. Of course, there was the occasional Bald Eagle sighting. They are all over Alaska in their natural habitat. There are trails for all different hiking levels. I did see a sign for a trail that leads you down the mountain to Basin Road. So, you don't necessarily have to take the tram to get there. It advises that you wear hiking boots and bring plenty of water because it's a difficult trail. There were many obstacles along the loop trail such as large tree roots and very high stairs that were built in to get you through the steeper parts. There are some beautifully carved totem polls as well, and signs warning of poisonous plants. It's a great family adventure. I learned a lot along the way. It's a must for anyone who loves nature.

No ear popping, it can be a little crowded, but the cool thing is your ticket is good all day and you can run up and down until the end of the day. Military discount is small, but if you have a good size group, it's worth it. There are a couple of amenities at the top. A a small cafe, a gift shop, a little auditorium that plays a movie about the history of the tram. We got up to the top. We went hiking on the small trail, but if you have it in your...you can hike up to Browns Cross and get an even better view of Juneau and the surrounding areas. And one ticket will allow you to do it early and then again later? Wow. The staff are friendly and keep things in order. They get you up pretty quickly. We had a good time, and I can see why it's a must do on Juneau lists. Recommend.

There's a $50 credit per tour that applies to the first guest through the "More at Sea" package. You'll also get Latitude Reward discounts depending on your tier. It somehow ended up costing less than $20 for both of us. It's also an all day pass, so you can go up & down as many times as you want. We were one of the first in line that morning. There were only 8 people in front of us. We watched as they were taking the staff up to the shop & resraurants. Before long, it was our turn. The tram was pretty packed with lots of standing room and very few seats. I chose to be on the outer edge with a great view. The climb is steep, and you do go straight up like an elevator for that last push to the top. To be honest, I've been on much higher gondolas (to the top of the Zugspitze near Garmisch). The Goldbelt Tram was an easy ride compared to that. I did like the commentary along the way. It was nice to hear fun facts & history as you're taking in the view of the channel and forest below. There is a gift shop, restaurant, bar, and theater as you get to the top. We opted to take on the Alpine Loop Trail early. We also made sure to stop at the Chilkat Theater to view the "Seeing Daylight" documentary. Don't miss that viewing. It's part of the whole experience. It really puts everything into perspective about the land and its people (Tlinget) who have lived here for centuries. You'll see an ongoing theme as you explore other Alaskan towns. It really ties it all together. We didn't get to try the restaurants. We thought it best to explore Downtown Juneau and the waterfront instead. It was a good decision. It was all very memorable! It was truly one of the coolest and most unforgettable experiences I've ever had with brown bears. I felt completely safe the entire time, and it was absolutely incredible to watch these majestic animals in their natural habitat. Watching them fish was surprisingly fast, sometimes even hilarious! Wild Coast made the whole experience feel both thrilling and respectful to the wildlife. Wild Coast Excursions is the best opportunity to see bears in Juneau and probably Alaska! I cannot wait to go again and check out Pack Creek next time -- already dreaming of it! Don't miss this if you're in Juneau -- it's pure magic.
