I was still a little nervous about the unknown because while 99% of the online reviews were super positive people don't generally take the time to write about their eye doctors and every rating site only had a handful of reviews. Obviously, the positive reviews were spot on. Starting with the moment you walk through the door, you are greeted by super friendly staff. The tech who ran me through the battery of pre-tests on the eye machines (glaucoma, refraction, retina scan, etc.) was not only friendly but explained exactly what she was doing every time and what I should expect (flashes of light, blasts of air). I did have to wait a little long to see Dr. Kessler and, as I suspected, the "other doctor" was unable to come in as planned. It seems like that kind of stuff happens all the time in this crazy COVID world nowadays so I wasn't put off by it at all. Stuff happens. The wait was well worth the service I received. Dr. Kessler's approach to an eye examination was unique and gave me confidence in her technical abilities and desire to make sure my eye refraction prescription was spot on. They don't sell glasses so there is absolutely no incentive for her or anyone else in the practice to adjust you unnecessarily. As a 50+ year old, I have been opting in for retinal scans. Dr. Kessler was the first doctor who showed me the scans and pointed out and explained everything on it. All others simply said something along the lines, "I looked at your scans and they look fine." Nice to know, but I like to be educated and I think an educated consumer is a much better consumer. Obviously Dr. Kessler does as well. On top of all that, she was, by far, the most personable optometrist I have ever used. She was plain speaking, dynamic, friendly, and somehow actually made the exam, dare I say...FUN! I'm not saying you should dump your current eye doctor. If you are happy with your doctor, by all means keep your doctor. However, if there is any part of the practice you currently use that you do not like or are uncomfortable with, do not hesitate to give MEA and Dr. Kessler a chance to earn your business. They've certainly earned mine as well as the rest of my family's.

I always thought I might eventually sit down and write about my disappointing experience at…read moreClearview--and here we are. To be fair, my first visit was pleasant. The staff seemed friendly, efficient, and professional. Unfortunately, my second visit for a contact lens fitting was a completely different story. After my initial appointment, I waited over a month to be scheduled for the fitting. In fact, I had to reach out myself to find out what the delay was. By the time they got back to me, it was a new calendar year and my insurance deductible had reset--an expensive inconvenience. When I finally received the lenses, it was immediately clear they were not my prescription. I couldn't see at all with them in. I kept the packaging to examine it later, but the associate became visibly upset and demanded I return it without giving me a chance to look. When I asked for a copy of my updated prescription, they simply provided me the same one I had brought in from my previous doctor. No changes, no explanation. So what exactly had I been fitted with? I still don't know. Dr. Salley then informed me that if I wanted to try multifocal lenses that might actually work, I'd need to pay an additional $80. This was after already paying $130 for a "premium" fitting and follow-up. At that point, it felt like I was being strung along with no real plan to improve my vision. I've worn contact lenses for over 40 years--I don't need to pay for a fitting just to be handed the same prescription I walked in with, especially when the trial lenses were clearly not that prescription. Despite having vision insurance, I still paid around $300 out of pocket. Without insurance, it would've been over $400--and that's before the multifocal upgrade. On top of that, they pushed pairs of glasses that cost nearly $1,000. The frames were uninspired and overpriced, and I couldn't justify the cost, especially given the lack of confidence I had in their recommendations. To make matters worse, Dr. Salley's demeanor had completely changed between visits. On the first visit, he was pleasant and friendly, though he refused to even glance at a small bump on my eyelid, instead offering a referral to a surgeon. (Thankfully, the accommodating Dr. Google suggested it was likely a harmless milia, something I would think an optometrist could have just told me.) On the second visit, he acted like we'd never met. He sent in an intern to do the exam, and when he arrived he simply refused to believe anything I said. He contradicted everything we had previously discussed--on the first visit saying multifocal lenses weren't effective and he didn't recommend them, now insisting they were the only option. It was confusing and frustrating. And while this may seem minor, Buster the office dog--cute as he was--clearly needed more frequent bathroom breaks. The smell of old urine warmed by the afternoon sunlight streaming through the waiting room window was unpleasant and unprofessional. In the end, I left Clearview with no usable prescription, no glasses, and a significantly lighter wallet. I had hoped for clarity--literally and figuratively--but instead, I got confusion, inconsistency, and a disappointing lack of care. Could I have pushed it and made myself a nuisance and annoyed them until they did more? Yes. I could have. But I no longer care to guide a business on the provision of quality customer service when there are dozens of other options available. Yelp lists 240 optometrists in Memphis TN. There are practices at Costco and the mall that treat their patients with more care than this boutique practice- and the local college of optometry is graduating new practitioners every year.

Even though my glasses were broken,I agreed. To make a long story short after several calls back and forth, I was told the delay was not their fault (?). 29 days later I got the call that they were ready for pick up! When I got there to pick them up I asked what caused the delay.I was given a lot of double talk and no strait answers. When I asked again I was treated in a very harsh and unprofessional way. In a word RUDE! If that was the end of it that would have convinced me that I would not return. A few weeks went by and the lenses on my $1100 glasses began to cloud and and it became difficult to see.I had to return and was told that the lenses was defective and would be replaced. After another 2 weeks I returned to have the new lenses replaced,at which time the story changed and all of a sudden the damage to the lenses was now my fault! I was told that I didn't clean them properly! I assured the rude person at the desk that I knew how to take care of eye glasses. At that point as I leaving a woman came in with the exact same problem that i was having-new lenses clouding up to the point that they were useless. And having to return them just as I did, I didn't say anything and left. It has been about 2 years and the glasses seem ok now (other than being vastly overpriced). I felt like I got shabby treatment and had to deal with a lot of attitude from the staff. I will not be returning there in the future.
