Oakland Memory Lanes - Trashy sign at the entrance and throughout the cemetery

Sad to say, we couldn't find her marker as it had been covered over by grass and dirt over time. After we arrived home, I called to ask about locating her grave and having it raised. The office personnel informed me that they were only allowed to do that with the family's permission and that they would notify the groundskeepers to find and raise her marker. It did take a few weeks and several calls, but Tawana stayed on task and told me she would make sure the groundskeepers would take care of it right away. True to her word, the next morning I found a text from her with a picture of our baby's marker raised and reset. It really comforted my heart to see it again. Tawana even took the time to personally call me to make sure I saw the text. She went on to say that when we plan on stopping by again, we should let them know and they would put a purple flag on her grave so we could easily find it. That's going the extra mile! I would recommend to anyone who has a similar issue with a loved one's sunken marker, that they contact Tawana and give them permission to have it reset. Patricia M.

Graves are not maintained. Never seen any maintenance people working around in the cemetery…read more Headstones are sunken and uneven (look like they were driven over, how disrespectful) The way they leave a recently buried person's grave is disgusting. I'm not even a family member of this person and it disgusted me to see the way it was left. Office people are rude (unless they are trying to sell you something, they will kiss your butt then, but once they have your money it's another story) The roads are terrible to drive on with huge holes. The signs throughout the cemetery are trashy. I hate coming here this place has gone downhill. My grandparents were buried here in the 70s and this used to be a nice, well taken care of cemetery...it's not anymore. Family members shouldn't have to complain about sunken headstones that's regular maintenance. I've never had to complain at the other cemetery my family is buried at and it looks way better than this trash. I guess dead people don't make money so why bother to show them respect.

I worked in CP back in the 60's. About 20 of us on hands and knees would cut around the headstones…read more My friends and I would sit up on the hill towards the back or west end. CP added peacocks, deer, and other animals in the early 70's. In the main office they had a live santa and ET, popular at the time. I have family buried here. It was at one time a beautiful, majestic place to visit and roam around. Too bad like the surrounding neighborhood, it fell into crap.

This place is a cemetery full of dead people, which means there could be a crapload of zombies…read morepotentially arising from the graves to eat me. So why am I giving this place four stars? Point 1: my mom and a lot of old neighbors are buried there. I myself do not go there to visit anyone as I am not bringing anyone back home with me. But, there are quite a few people who take comfort in having their loved ones nearby, including my brother. During that first year, he went up there everyday to visit my mom's gravesite. Other family members of long gone neighbors apparently do the same. Point 2: my brother, me and The Doctor are slated to buried next to my mom. I say that because I have the real estate there, but I am not sure if I will be going there. I am planning to be burned and scattered someone after a great party, details still being worked out. Point 3: it really is kind of pretty as it looks like a park on the surface. Lots of deers roaming around. Little places to sit. Sometimes you see little picnics on people's markers (hard liquor, little cakes, etc). They used to do Santa, easter egg hunts, etc, back in the day. Don't know if they still do or not. I never went to any of these events because it was in a cemetery and that is creepy. But a lot of people use to go to these events take photos. Is this the best cemetery in the world? Nope, but the times I have been there for intermits, it has been nicely done. But I will go back to the zombie angle, I think they wander there. Years ago, I use to walk in tere for exercise because I didn't have to worry about cars and crossing streets. But on this particular day, I swear I saw one walking towards me a la Night of the Living Day. That guy was in a dark suit and was pasty whitish grey...I didn't try to analyze the situation, I just ran towards the entrance and went home. My mom (who was alive at the time) laughed and asked how did I know it was zombie, maybe it was one of the funeral directors. No idea, wasn't going to stop and find out.

It's been a year now since my mom passed away and now I think it's time to write a review…read more I chose W W Holt Funeral Home because of their Past history of great work. The funerals I had attended from my former church were mostly by W W Holt. I would talk about and remember, in the past, how beautiful the deceased person(s) looked. They looked like they were resting. That's was over 20 years ago and I couldn't imagine how different things would be, especially preparing for my mom's funeral. We decided to have our mom cremated. Everything started off well. But when it came to viewing our mom's body before the home going, my family and I were heartbroken over how our mom looked. She didn't look herself, at all. She looked terrible. The funeral home did some touch up be it didn't help. The next part was the cremation. Evidently, I called the funeral home too many times just to follow up with the process. This is my love one who I loss. The funeral owner decided to scold me by telling me that the process had been explained to me over and over! I was taken aback by her this. This was unprofessional and insensitive. There's a lot more I can say, but I'm already tired from writing this review. To sum things up. I would not recommend W W Holt Funeral Home
